Filson hunting vest is a must. Remember you pay for what you get. There is a lot of junk out there for cheap. Spend the extra money and get the good stuff. Wrangler hunting pants at cabelas $20-$30 bucks. Still have a pair from 2 years ago and will wear em next year. If pheasant hunting avoid bibs. Get pants with NO ZIPPERS by the ankle. (gamehid upland pants are garbage) Bob Allen shooting gloves for the cold days. Oh yea and a spit fire of a dog.

Well Fish I am gonna take a shot in the dark here that you have a pointer. Am I right? exactly. Pretty dumb question. Us owners of flushing dogs train our dogs to only flush roosters. It’s called trash breaking but hey you never know procupine hunting may catch on in the coming years and you will have a stud of a huntin partner haha jk buddy shoulda taken a picture. I am gonna go take a look at the archery forums now to see if i can find any funny stories about buck fever and “malfunctions” with the bow. You know what i mean

Dokken’s book is good and written well so you can understand it. I don’t have a duck dog so I skipped the waterfowl portion. It gives you a week by week set of training sessions. I do disagree with a previous post. An e-collar is a very useful tool and you should train your dog with an e-collar when the training reaches that point. Dokken’s book details the e-collar training very well and when to start that session. Dokken’s book also details why e-collars are useful.

Good info. Fireworks are fireworks. THey are a loud noises when the dog is just hanging out. My dog hates fireworks but a gun shot does not bother her at all because she is hunting. When there are fireworks going off in my neighborhood I break out the dummy and start throwing making it a good think. And it doesn’t matter if I am shooting or someone else is…my dog is working not playing ya know. I thought the same thing when my dog was young. Put a bird in front of that dog and shoot from a ways away. One other suggestion too much loud noise at once is not a good thing. Shoot one or two shells of the 410 or the 22 whatever and then be done. Short training or short exposure is better in my training experience. Just my two cents. Good luck and good hunting!!

I talked to my brother in MD and told him about the situation so i will give him a call and see where he stands…cuz i can pick up the dog and take care of em until he can come to MN to get it…dog isn’t going to pound…so if you can get a time line on the site that would great.

get a trap for 20 bucks (or make one) and just ask a farmer to put it up in his hay loft…put a lil corn in there and happy hunting!

Nice looking pup! Better get him up to the cabin for fishing opener so he can bring some good luck to fishing spot during the “gathering process”. Good luck fishing up there if you go out!

Sorry to hear about that Fish. Keep me posted. Told my father in law and he was shocked to hear it. Hopefully if surgery is needed it will be a good strong recovery. Now what the heck u gonna do if you can’t train everyday for a couple months?????

Thanks Les I decided to give it a run! Just to give everyone an update I been in the FF process for the past several weeks and it has been a great training experience! Inga and I are on the home stretch and just beginning the incorporation of the e-collar to the FF. Almost there and saved a little cash. Thanks a lot to Don Hanson for all the great advice!

Just imagine not only what they can do to a deer herd but a farmers livestock!!! But thats why they call it wildlife and predators will be predators.
