Two boat crew went up to Leech this weekend. The first boat said the midnight trolling was hot up at leech. 3 guys in one boat limited out in 3 hours. Everything was between 16″-22″ with a 27 1/2″ in there as well.

Our boat didn’t do the midnight fish and opted to go out early in the morning (bad idea). We put 4 total in the from 5am-6pm (16″,18″,19″ and 29″). The 29 was caught at about 5:30 dragging a jig and a minnow near Pine Point.

All in all it was fun to get back out there but the snow and temps made for some trying fishing.

I would of agreed with a lot of the statements here if I hadn’t started reading all the Facebook comments on these closures. Covid or not it seems a majority of locals up there want the ramps, river, entire fishing season closed. Sounds like the county even had a discussion about writing the governor to see if they could get the entire fishing season closed or postponed. There is no bones about it that these people do not want outsiders in their county.

I’m in the same boat. Selfishly I always look forward to this trip. However, if the locals are willing to close a major contributor to their economy to keep people out then it is what it is. They are taking this serious and I respect them for that.

Hopefully we get through this and can fill the resorts soon.

Might not mater what conditions the river is in if we cant use the landings.

I saw this. Limit/closing outdoor space seems like a very logical way to prevent the spread of a virus.. SMH (heavy sarcasm)

Are they gonna let us fish if it opens?

I guess we will see. Unless there is a statewide shutdown there is no way in not going to stay at the cabin and fish.

I would expect to see some serious melt this week with the temps they are calling for and the sun.

Any updates from the last week? Looks like the sun was hiding for the most part last week.

Crazy to see a 30 degree difference between the cities and Baudette. I got excited when I was looking at the weather this week thinking that there would be some serious damage done over the next 7-10 days. Temps up north are a lot lower so heres hoping for some sun and wind!!!
Looks like in the last 15 years the 20th has been a good marker (a few days on either side) for 1st boots out of Birchdale.

In front of Franz Javne today.

That is crazy. I wouldn’t have thought we would see open water for another week at best. What do I know though? hahah

It’s that time of year again isn’t it? With the closing of walleye around most of the state upon us, RR is the next thing to look forward to.

For all of you that know more than I do, how was the ice on the river this winter? Standard? This will be the first year that I am somewhat flexible and can go on short notice. Hoping to hit the run for once instead of fishing in chocolate milk.

Was thinking about towing the boat up to fish Friday and in between the deer sits. Wasn’t really wanting to venture outside the river much, if at all. Anybody been in the last few days? Worth it?
Sounds like the river is still pretty high and moving fast unfortunately.

I was up there last weekend/early this week. The bite in front of Pine was slow, as was the bite straight out the gap. We fished anywhere from 9′-25′ in those areas depending on the time of day.

Pushed out to some structure off Bridges one day and fished 20′-29′ and the bite was amazing. If the wind/waves allow it, I would 100% be fishing out there. We were jig fishing w/ frozen shiner moving about .5-.7 mph popping the jig off the bottom. 8 fish over 24′ on the day we were at Bridges with the biggest being 27 3/4.

Where were you staying? Any idea of how far of a ride that is from Sportsmans in Baudette? Looks like quite a ways across the open water.

52-54 throughout the day. Fish were all over between 8-18 throughout the entire time. Caught them in all those depths from start to finish.

Fished today 7a-2p with 2 of us in the boat. Spent the whole time up north between red door and barnacles. Pitched jigs (whistler jigs) w/ plastics for the first 3.5 hours and put 12 in the boat. Spent the rest of the time pulling lindy’s (1 w/ a leech and 1 w/ a spot tail) and put another 15 in the boat. Everything was 19-20.5″. The joke was that it was the same fish following us around.

All in all a fun day fishing. Was really hoping to bring 1 or 2 home but it wasn’t in the cards today.
    Tight lines and stay safe!

I have around 8 dozen in North branch I can sell you.

Appreciate the offer. I’m out in Excelsior so it would be quite a bit out of the way.

Heading up on Thursday. Excited to see what the reports are from opener weekend. Seems like there was a lot of diversity on presentation but the general consensus from what I am hearing/reading is that the are shallow.

Just go to their website and go to social map you’ll have to zoom in to your area an if your lake has a water drop beside it then someone has map of that lake. Just sign up and down load the map

    Thank you for the help.

Not sure if there is just no one selling a used one or if my price was too low. I am negotiable on the price I’d pay and also have quite a bit in Cabelas gift cards if thats interests anyone.

Really don’t want to have to buy new with some of the things I am hearing are coming down the pipeline soon.

Looks like this might be hard to trade. Would sell for $850. Must be picked up in Excelsior.
