From a full time firefighters perspective. Buy the newest vehicle you can afford. The safety features in newer vehicles is far superior to vehicles made even 10 years ago. I can’t remember the last time I had to cut a person out of a newer vehicle. Even after a roll over. 15-20 years ago, it was a monthly occurance. Happy shopping.

The pond dig was part of their partnering for wildlife program. It was supposed to be a 50% cost share but in the end they covered the entire cost. The only restriction I have is I can not fill it in for 10yrs. They also provided all my Prairie seed which I have to maintain for 10yrs as well. No annual payments like CRP but it didn’t come with some of the Agricultural restrictions of CRP. I was able to plant where ever I wanted to suit my habitat plan.

Any idea what is going on with AshKaNam resort? I made a summer reservation a couple months ago. Have not received a confirmation letter, nobody answers the phone, voicemail box is full and they have not returned email inquires.
March 23, 2022 at 9:17 am #2110114We were told the RABC is no longer needed unless you plan to touch Canadian soil. Anchoring your boat is considered touching Canadian soil so bring your spot lock trolling motor.
February 22, 2022 at 8:28 pm #2102216I agree with the 1 game suspension for Gard but I think Howard should have been fired with in 12hrs of the incident. How many of you could go to work tomorrow, punch someone in face and keep your job? Not me. He is a leader of young men, held to a higher behavioral standard then most and is paid handsomely for that.
November 30, 2021 at 9:39 am #2077635My 11yr old wrestled youth for a couple years then decided on basketball. Fun to watch youth hoops but we aren’t exactly a hoops town. For those of you that follow wrestling you’ll know what I’m talking about. We live in Kasson, home of the often Nationally ranked Komets! Should be another exciting year in the gym for both sports but a couple deer tags to fill first.
August 26, 2021 at 9:39 am #2056774The Process:
After buying our property I invited several agencies out for a site visit. The USF&W service, NRCS, Itasca Woodland service and a Pheasants forever rep. I explained my vision for our property. That was to provide 80 acres for all wildlife all the time. As for the ponds it went like this. I wanted a 150′-200′ berm through the wetland in the center of my property so I could travel North/South on our East line. In doing so we could create an open water pond. John (USF&W) thought it was a great idea that would not only benefit wildlife but increase the usability of our property. He also suggested a secondary, smaller wetland as part of the overall project. From there it becomes a budget issue. How much money can he allocate and how much was I willing to cost share. John did all the paperwork with the county and DNR. He also lined up the contractors. He was onsite to supervise the project to my satisfaction. In the end, they covered the cost of the entire dig with my cost share only being any final grading I want done next year when the area around the pond dries up. He also provided me with 6 acres of upland pollinator prairie seed for some restoration I wanted to do. My contract is only that the wetland can not be filled in for at least 10 years and the prairie must remain for 10 years. My biggest take away after owning my property for 6 months. Get people on your property that are experts in what they do and have money to help along the way. He did say some Counties are easier to work with than others, mine was in Todd county. Good luck and happy habitat work.January 28, 2021 at 4:19 pm #2010201UPDATE: We closed of our 80 acre parcel. We hired Kanati Wildlife Consulting to assist with our habitat goals. I will attach our finished plan for your review. It was a very good experience working with Nate and Ryan. If you need some guidance with forest management, habitat development, hunting strategies give the guys a call.

July 24, 2020 at 11:47 am #1959947Yarcraft 186tfx. I recently purchased a 2020 with 200SHO and could not be happier. Wide boat with large cockpit area. Let me know if you want a test ride/drive I could make that happen if you’re in Minnesota.

15yr professional firefighter in Rochester, MNJanuary 14, 2018 at 1:56 pm #1744096The new Beckman website is supposed to be up and operational in February. I have a Beckman and a RSnet. Bought my RS when the basket on the Beckman wore out. The RS is not a better net, it is a different net. The Beckman is very stout for how light it is, the RS is incredibly strong and well built but is significantly heavier than the Beckman. I will be replacing my Beckman basket once they get up and running for it most definitely still has a place in my boat.
August 3, 2016 at 10:16 am #1632124How is it possible with 100% catch/release that the Angler total take for fish 10,138 can be higher than the hooking mortality estimate of 7,000 fish. Should those numbers be equal? Basically, where does the extra 7000lbs come from that are not part of the hooking mortality? Is it the winter take from Jan 1st through ice out?
June 18, 2016 at 9:47 pm #1625206Fished as a Co-angler last year on the Cabelas NWT and had the luxury of fishing out of both you mentioned as well as the Triton 216, Yarcraft 209tfx and Lund 2075. They all did fine in the big waves, I would consider the interior layout you prefer and strength of local dealership in your decision. If you want to test drive the Yarcraft 209, let me know mine will be here the end of August. Also, check out the Airwave seat pedestals, they are a true difference maker.
March 31, 2016 at 7:50 pm #1610729Stop at Allen’s hillside and buy your minnows and he’ll give you a great report. Plan to jig vertical, pull light bottom bouncers and lead core with #5 flicker Shads and shad raps. He’ll have the tackle you need if don’t already have it.
March 17, 2016 at 9:14 pm #1607565Rick does a great job. I have a 10 month old black lab from Rick. He did all the obedience training and early bird work at 7 months and we couldn’t be happier.
February 11, 2016 at 7:11 pm #1599331Why no taxes? Don’t you have to pay the sales tax when you register it as the new owner?
February 7, 2016 at 8:28 am #1598336I was looking at the 300 verado because I wasn’t sure of the performance with the 250 verado. What kind of numbers and hole shot do you get with your pro xs?
January 8, 2016 at 9:16 pm #1590923I have an 8mo old male, black British lab from Old Oak Retrievers in Blooming Prairie, Mn. Rick knows his British labs. You would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t give Rick a call and drive down to checkout his top notch facilities and dogs. Give me a call if you have questions.

October 21, 2015 at 8:04 pm #1572516I fished all 4 events last year as a co. It most definitely can be hit or miss on the pro you fish with. It did learn at least one thing at each event to make me a better fisherman but in my estimation, you could hire a local guide for 2 days at the same cost and likely benefit more.
October 16, 2015 at 9:53 am #1571383We are on our 3rd pup. 6 month old black lab. We are feeding a higher end dog food this time and can really tell the difference in his coat and poop consistency. One thing to remember about the higher end dog foods is you typically feed smaller amounts so the food lasts longer. Fyi… in the past we fed Purina Pro plan and now we feed Taste of the Wild. Enjoy your new pup.
August 9, 2015 at 9:56 am #1558626I was up there last week. Kab was tough. Talked to three local guides who recommended Namaken or portage over to Rainy at Kettle Falls. We did find fish on the reefs but they had lock jaw. We caught keepers one day on Little Richie. Smallies were fairly easy to come by fishing the shallow rocks with a BX Minnow, a few larger walleyes mixed in doing this on Ram Island. Good Luck, hook up with local guide Don Granger(sp?) I know he had some guys in the resort on good fish while we were up there, may be worth the investment. I think he gets $300 a day for 2 guys.
January 20, 2015 at 12:03 pm #1499965Joel, had mine done 13 months ago at North Suburban Eye specialist in Blaine. As a professional Firefighter, avid fisherman and hunter I can report NO negative effects from the surgery. Early on I experienced some sensitivity to light but that has gone away. I would recommend Dr. Lobanoff at NSES. Good luck on your decision, it was truly a game changer for me. Jason
