Just to mention the “jaw-jacker” type setups are not legal in MN, but are allowed in WI.

Maybe you knew and perhaps other readers knew, but figured it good to remind for those that maybe were unaware.

And another reason to fish WI is they allow 3 lines year ’round if that’s your fancy.

You are correct. Thanks for the heads up for some other people who may not be aware. Definitely nice having the option for either way. I will use the hooksetter for trout but most other stuff I just run the regular way(in Wisconsin). These are a great option for people who may fish in Wisconsin and Minnesota during the year. When I went to Red Lake I was just able to not use the hooksetter part and just use like a normal tip up. Nice having one device that can do that. If you fish only in Minnesota just don’t buy the hooksetter part and you’re good to go!

I absolutely love using them. I’ve got 6″ walleye and perch on them up to mid 30″ pike and mid 20″ walleye. Just have to adjust your tension to the bait you are using. I won’t even fish with normal tip ups anymore. Plus the owner is local to central Wisconsin and is a hell of a nice guy!

If you’ve got the hooksetter option just make sure you set it up for a specific rod and use it with that one, you do need to adjust them a bit depending on what you are using for a rod. I label the two hooksetters I’ve got for the rod I have them adjusted to and have had no problems once I had it set up right.

This would be a dream trip for me. Always wanted to catch a Laker, and fish fort peck.

It is super affordable and was a pretty neat experience fishing there. I think total for fishing Monday-Friday it cost us roughly $500/person or less. That includes gas, lodging, food(brought most of our own), bait(didn’t use too many minnows cuz it was rough trying to fish tip ups with the cold), and fishing license.

Get some buddies together and go in on it, you won’t regret it.

This kid is working hard, producing content.

I watched a few of his videos when he was starting out. I think he has a filming and editing background so he has some very high quality videos. Some amazing hunting and fishing shots. Neat to watch instead of these “famous” youtubers who just push out clickbait and have 20 minutes of footage of a gopro strapped to their chest.

Spinnerbaits…that’s what I toss 80% of the time anyways. I may be a little addicted.

Just love feeling them blades turning, stop, then THUMP!

I do think they are pretty versatile though. Relatively weedless, can fish them slow, fast, stumps, pads, etc and catch fish all day long. That’s my vote.

I do it for personal enjoyment. I love the filming and editing process just as much as Fishing. I only get to go about once a week so it’s neat when every night I can still spend an hour or two looking back and editing footage. It’s awesome looking back at old videos and adventures. Pictures capture the moment, videos let you relive it! Just a few cool things I’ve caught on film were plenty of good sized bass the last couple years, 38” musky ice fishing, few big walleyes through the ice last year, and a coworker catching a 40” pike in Devils Lake North Dakota. Some day my newborn son will be able to look back at those and (hopefully) get some enjoyment from it and get a passion for fishing like me!

Thanks! Was a little slow, but oh well. They already bought an auger and got some other gear since then to get started on their own.

That is too funny. Yeah it sure felt like a walleye, guess I should have known by the giant floating marks we were getting on the flasher. There was quite a few carp around, but we were also catching a few walleye there too.

Thanks! I was out this past weekend but probably won’t make it back to Petenwell for a couple weeks now. Will keep that in mind!

    Nice fish!

Thanks! My biggest walleye through the ice, not huge but it was a nice one. Plan to target them a bit more than in the past.

The only thing missing was John Gillespie screaming and running up to wrap his arm around you. lol That and the Johnsonville brats being served out there. wink

Haha I will have to remember that for next time!

I know this isn’t related to ice fishing, but the Kinnickinnic River is an excellent trout fishery. I went to college in River Falls and fished it quite often.

Yeah pretty neat catching big crappie on bass spinnerbaits like that. That does make sense about the slower metabolism!

Thanks! It was, but the whole part of the lake we were on didn’t get much more than 10 feet deep. Not much visibility so I’m assuming that is one of the reasons we had some success in shallow water.

Absolutely! Working on editing the second day, mostly just trolled with crankbaits and caught 9-10 good eaters if I remember correctly.

Thanks! It was a lot of fun. I bass fish 95% of the time so it was a good change up and definitely learned a few things. Really not much to it what we were doing, but it takes a lot of skill with what our guide Zippy was doing running the trolling motors. He had one in the front and one in the back and was running them both trying to keep us on a certain depth and right on the weedline. Never thought we would be catching walleyes in 5-6 FOW that time of day.

Thanks! Yup, I love that second lake. Been a little tougher fishing this year than last on it. Last year I did really well. This year it’s a little higher pressured and hasn’t been as consistent. Thanks for the kind words!

Hope you find some of the lakes you are looking for.

Absolutely! Love hitting this smaller lakes from the kayak. Can get into a lot of spots bigger boats can’t.

Thank you for positive feedback! I’m actually from around Marshfield, WI but head to Rice Lake about once a month as my wife is from that area. I believe the lake I was fishing was in Washburn County. I hit quite a few lakes in Barron and Washburn County when I am visiting that area. Generally smaller ones, but occasionally try some bigger ones as well. Usually when I am fishing bigger or well known lakes I’ll say what lake I’m on, but not some of the smaller ones. IMO there are tons of great small lakes all around northern WI; just have to put the time in to find the best ones! Thanks for watching and the feedback.

Thanks, it is a blast! Been doing it for 4 years. Just sold this kayak and have a new one on the way. Feelfree Lure 11.5. Can stand up in it and lots of other options. Love kayak fishing, can get into spots no one else can. I even have a boat also but generally fish out of my kayak much more.

Yeah! I really want to try that this summer. No idea where to find walleye in there, sounds like they are hard to come by now but the ones that are there are huge! One guy fishing not far from us lost one on a tip down.

Thanks! It was a fun afternoon. Especially when you figure them out and don’t have to switch jigs or bait at all

Awesome! Congrats. That’s what makes fishing so fun, never know what might be on the end your line.
