That is correct. This tournament is meant to be a fun – family oriented tournament. So with that, we are allowing to make room in the boat for another person. Hope this helps!

Bill has a great show and sure seems to know what he is talking about. What I read into this is some of the discussions of moving mn gun seasons out of rut, etc. is mute for management purposes. There are many more underlying issues involved.

Thanks for sharing the information. We appreciate your response and the attached info. If you would like to come talk to the Frontenac Sportsman’s Club some time, it would be greatly appreciated. We have a large group and always interested in info like this and we also have in the past dontated money to assist in Fisheries Studies (Telemetry studies years back), and we would always be interested in assisting financially again.

And I absolutely agree with you Erik. The last thing I am trying to do is stir the pot with anyone. Not in my nature. I just feel it is time to get that discussion out because there is a change. I have full faith in the Fishery professionals in the DNR, and looking forward to their input on this discussion. What we can do is to continue to voice concerns, and help out in anyway possible, whatever means possible.

So should we wait and “hope” for a perfect storm? I have been fortunate to live and fish on Lake Pepin my whole life and have been fishing it religiously for over 30 years. Through all the “up and down” cycles within the DNR report -saugers caught by anglers are by far the worse they ever been. If someone disagree’s, then they have not fished here long enough to make that assessment. The last statistical trend downward occured between 91 & 95 (Statistically – a trend is 3 continuous points down or up). Dependent on 2013 DNR report, we could have our 2nd statistically proven decline in sauger population within their study timeframe. I just don’t want us to sit back and “hope for the best”

Just wanted to let you all know that I had a great conversation with Kevin Stauffer from the fisheries department in Lake City. I will not speak for them, but they are starting to get more and more feedback on anglers concerns of the sauger fishery. Kevin stated that he will be providing a response soon here on this thread and also attach some of their reports. It was great to have that one-on-one conversation and I have offered assistance in anyway that I can to help out if needed.

Great discussion everyone. I am glad the consensus is that there is a “concern”. So what can we do?? I personally will contact the Fisheries Dept. in Lake City to see if they would consider a Round Table for discussion and get a group of us involved. Will they? Don’t know – but I will try.

Wouldn’t you agree that if there was a great 2001 class however, that during the proceeding years there would be a great potential for great spawns with all the mature fish? Just seems they are not dropping off slowly, but more like expotentially.

And I fully agree also. Growing up on Pool 4, it is an easy assessment to make – that we are cutting our own throats. It is SAD when you go to the Lake City Fish Cleaning station day after day and watch 10″ – 12″ saugers being filleted out. I guess more importantly, what can we and what are we going to do to voice our opionions. On all my tournament reports that I submit to the Fisheries, I have always voiced my opinion that there has to be something done, whether increasing slot size to 15″ minimum, to closing the season at some point (or catch and release only during certain timeframes). Yes, I know that keeping the season open year long generates money for many – and I can appreciate that. However, we have to understand conservation has to play an important role to sustain also.

Kindly find attached the final results for the 2nd Annual Officer Schneider Scholarshop Memorial Tournament. 39 boats participated and we raised $4,000 for local school scholarships. Thanks to all for making this a success. A special “Thank You” to the anglers, volunteers & oranizations / people that made donations. We truly appreciate all that you do!

Set July 12th of next year on the calendar. We have our dates blocked in for the 3rd Annual Event.

On another note…..anyone have any thoughts on the sauger population on Pool 4?? This is the 3rd tournament I ran this year and we have had 9 total sauger 15″ or over brought to scale. I am keeping my opinion to my self, but what do you all think????

We know many of you have family in town and they are more than welcome to join in for dinner at no cost. If we don’t have enough walleye caught – we will be having grilled burgers. BUT – we know you all will be catching plenty of walleye

I have sent out all confirmation letters for boats that entered so far. If you are planning on fishing, please try to get entry’s in as soon as possible so I have time to send confirmation letters out. We also will be allowing boats to sign up the morning of the event and will be posting that information next week.

We are again looking to have a nice turnout for this great cause, so join in on this event!

I would recommend not using the Maple Spring launch. Very limited for what can get through there. And with water dropping, soon not even a canoe can make it out of there.

Meetings are great! Don’t take a day of vacation to pre-fish and save for bow hunting, buy some, or a lot of beers for some of the other participants, and find out where the fish are. Win-win!!

Entry’s are pouring in – so don’t delay getting your entry’s in. We will allow up to 100 boats and will have a free walleye dinner for the anglers after the tournament, along with raffles. We have a LOT of nice raffle items such as guns, bows, Cabela’s Gift Cards just to name a few. Join us on this great scholarship fundraiser in memory of Officer Schneider, whom was killed in the line of duty. Last year we raised $6,300 for scholarships and we just gave the money raised from last year to 3 High School Students! What a great tournament with a great cause! Entry’s can be printed off from this thread (up on top). Thanks Again All!

    Jimmy Siewert

PS: If anyone would like to make a donation for the raffles, please let me know! It would be greatly appreciated!

Overall I would say it was a tough bite. Team Holden won with I believe 21 lbs. 2nd was 18 down to 15 lbs for 6th. After than there were a few five fish limits with most teams catching 2 – 3 fish. Definitely out of the norm for this time of year. Big fish was 8.85lbs. Not many big fish weighed in. 61 teams participated and we raised right around $1,200 for maintenance of the new Coville Fish Cleaning Station being built in memory of Ralph Diercks.

The tournament this past week (Ralph Diercks Memorial), was a fundraiser for the new Fish Cleaning Station, in memory of Ralph, at Coville Park. The City would not provide any funds so we took the initiative to raise funds to build…thus the tournament to help defray costs. I think we all know how bad of a need there was for a cleaning station and we know it will be used by a LOT of people. It’s all good!

We still have openings and will the night of the orientation meeting. We have a feeling a LOT of people will be signing up that night. We have 30 right now – so we are expecting 50-60.

Last time I talked to the tournament director, we were over 20. I am anticipating 45 – 50 boats……….especially if the bite picks up

To the Top. As FYI, I have a typo on the first page pf the entry. It says limit is (5)-seven fish. You can have up to (7) fish in your livewell and then you weigh your best 5. Sorry about confusion! I have too many tournaments I am trying to keep up on
