If we are on a trip, we have left the fillets in a bowl of water for two days and have tasted no different. When times are tough and collecting for a big fry one night, we will freeze as Jon stated if it goes past two days. I really like using a vacuum sealer, especially when in Canada to keep the fish laying flat so they can identify them.

I have stayed at the Super 8 and it is nice. This has been 4 years, but my family was there – no complaints from my wife so that should tell you something.
August 29, 2007 at 1:54 pm #604180Good time to try it. I’ve said it before about Pepin – something special about back trolling or running lead core there. Some good spots along Maiden Rock, Methodist campground, No Point, and running from public access to Hansons Harbor. Remember to start the morning right with a great breakfast at the Galley.
August 20, 2007 at 7:20 pm #601642I sold a boat this summer and it was not easy. The key I found was listing it as many places as possible and be as accommodating as possible to the lookers. Meet when it works for them, drive to them, let them drive the boat etc. Mine did not sell from this web site, but off the boat manufacturer’s home site. I’m not sure if Tracker has a used boat section or not. The advantage to listing it on the manufacturer’s home page is that you have people going there to specifically look at that brand.
August 15, 2007 at 11:52 am #600181Some things just burn your a** don’t they , hopefully the cops in your area are proactive and start checking pawn stores, local contractors etc. – sorry for your friends loss.
July 30, 2007 at 2:52 pm #595296Returned late Saturday and was tough fishing. First part of the week was “HOT”, no wind and in the 90’s. Pulled our boats and went to Bowstring on Thursday and Friday. Caught more walleyes in one day than we did in the first four days on Sand. Different days though, overcast and a nice chop. Raining Thursday morning, so only fished 4 hours and caught 17 walleyes using Spinners with leeches in 12 – 14 ft. Friday was different and caught them 6 – 8 ft. in the weeds.
Thanks for the info I received.
July 20, 2007 at 2:13 pm #592341I cannot remember the last time I went out fishing and didn’t spend ANY money. If I’m not buying local bait I’m sure to go early and eat at a local restaurant or pick up some other things. I remember a discussion I did have at a small cafe one morning with a local (not Mille Lacs area). I was told that it was all us Iowans coming up and fishing out their lakes. I told him he must think I’m a great fisherman and I appreciated the compliment.
June 4, 2007 at 5:54 pm #577725I am sure most of you are aware of this: Run the filet knife down the back side of the “Y” bones and then a diagonal cut to the front. Grab the meat around the “Y” bone at the top and pull. One long piece of bone will come off together leaving only the meat.
The advantage I see to the technique mentioned above is that you would gain the meat around the “Y” bone. You can always pickle them and our recipe is to die for.
May 23, 2007 at 5:55 pm #574235I have found pulling cranks a great way to cover a lot of water in a short amount of time and being very effective while doing it.
In the beginning I would try to choose color based on the bait found within the lake you fish. For size I believe it was once said, “Big lures catch Big fish.” I would start by running the crank just off the bottom. I have found it more important to find the right color, size, and running depth as opposed to the name on the side of it.
Pick a bait color, nice sized crank and run it on the bottom. You can fine tune and get as technical as you want after that.
May 15, 2007 at 1:16 pm #571291I spent over 8 years in the military and was in a deployable unit and deployed overseas countless times. The photos of the parents leaving their kids is heart breaking. When I deployed I was married, but did not have any children. I have two now and do not know where they get the strength. Man we have the greatest service men and women around, they ROCK .
May 14, 2007 at 1:38 pm #570840I spoke with a resident of Clear Lake this morning and they believed the dredging would be this year or at least Ventura will. They heard they would be dredging Ventura lake (marsh) this year. I guess it is currently about 5 ft. and they found reports that it was near 25 ft. in the past. They are hoping this dredging of Ventura will help with the water shed.
May 14, 2007 at 1:19 pm #570831Think of all the memories they will have. Boy you wish all the parents out there could spend quality time with their kids, even if it isn’t fishing. Of course I don’t know what it would be .
May 10, 2007 at 12:50 pm #569918Smitty’s Campground – 651-345-3990. It could also be called Lake Pepin Campground, we have always called it Smitty’s. Good place to go, front spots have view of lake (looking acrossed road) and the permanent sites are towards the back. I do not know if “Diggers” bait shop is still across the way, but I always found him helpful with good info.
May 8, 2007 at 12:34 pm #568985Our best luck has been north and south of the river along the weed lines and cabbage. Northern for days in the cut and Little Winnie when you get bored.
May 8, 2007 at 12:21 pm #568981I do not know where I had heard this, but I was told Albert Lea was a dead lake. It is a nice looking lake, but always drove past it. Maybe that was the idea of the rumor. Just curious if there was ever any truth to this.

May 3, 2007 at 12:08 pm #567379Very interesting and looks sharp. I listened to the promo given by Al saying it is destined to be the best glass boat ever built. I guess I wouldn’t jump on that band wagon yet, will have its work cut out competing against the Warrior hull design.
April 27, 2007 at 12:48 pm #565433“are you related to bruce jenner???”
Isnt he a tennis player???Didn’t Bruce Jenner compete in the Olympics for the decathlon? I remember him from the Wheaties box.
When I saw the “Sharing the lake with others…” I wasn’t sure what the topic would be. Great giving way to nature. Of course I was thinking about those wave runners flying past you as you just moved into the perfect spot or that boat that drops anchor in the middle of your drift that you have been working.
Any other fishing etiquette that gets over looked?
April 26, 2007 at 12:17 pm #564988I have always had a soft spot backtrolling Pepin since I was a kid. (Of course a stop at the Galley Resturant to start the morning right)

Unreal, I boated 8 eyes over 26″ in a single morning. Please, anybody tell me where thats possible?
Same type of numbers produced at Minnitaki Lake, Ontario in spring and fall. Long drive, but has been a staple for me the last 4 years.
April 23, 2007 at 2:26 pm #563560One of my classmates ownes and operates a boat dealership in our home town. He has always made his living by providing service work as compared to boat sales. This is where there is a disadvantage to boat dealers as oppossed to auto dealers. Boat dealers get a better rate by the quantity of boats they buy from the manufacturer and auto dealers are on a more even playing field. My dad was quoted a price, oddly enough from Crystal Pierz, and my buddy couldn’t buy the boat from the manufacturer for the same price.
He did carry Crestliner until they required him to buy a minumum amount of boats each year. He could not afford to carry that much over head and dropped Crestliner (or they dropped him depending on how you look at it) and sells only Starcraft now.
He does understand the nature of the beast and has again focused on providing excellent service.
April 20, 2007 at 5:59 pm #562969Why don’t those people who pursue the 1st Amendment rights protect the 2nd with the same amount of passion? Of course the answer is that they pick and choose which amendements best suit them.

April 20, 2007 at 1:17 pm #562876Hey King, I bet you are the proudest dad around!!!
I remember how my dad looked at me when I was wearing the uniform and I’m sure you do the same thing. Send him some love from the IDA next time you correspond with him.
