What about a Humminbird helix 5 or 7 ice ? With these you get gps plus live mapping. If you have a boat you can use it in the summer with a different transducer. Given the choice lots of people prefer watching a graph over a flasher myself included. If I didn’t have a LX7 I’d be looking at one of these.
We’ve had some really good luck up there mid June . The fish seem to be scattered all over that time of year.I like to anchor and jig with lots of chumming.
Hi my ion is 4yrs old now but when it was newer I checked to see how many holes I could get on a charge . The ice was about 40 inches and I got 17 holes . I haven’t tested like that since, meaning I usually only drill maybe 6 holes . I wonder if I you’re blades are a little dull ,that might be the problem.
Hi I fish there some . We had a 41″ fish stuck in my ion hole . I would bring a 10″ auger if you can . Probably be 40″ of ice by then so better have an extension. White tubes with either frozen minnow or smelt or stripe of sucker belly works well . We do lots of chumming with either sucker belly or minnows or smelt . The fish can be anywhere from 25 ft to 125 ft.lots of big fish caught on dead lines with some bigger bait such as whole ciscoes . Jigging for big lakers we don’t fish aggressively, sometimes less is more if you know what I mean. Hope this helps a and you get a few big ones. Anything over 65cm which is 25 or 26″ has to be released.
I like using the black screen. I think that even the glare off of the snow on a sunny day can be a problem so I will try to block that with my sled seems to help some.
