    Mechanic did not scan. I believe he figured it out.
    The fuel lines were old.

    On the E-TEC 40 going into safe mode; I changed the thermostat and all fuel lines. That solved the problem.

    Also, this is a tiller steer engine, has no monitor controls or instruments to read; will have an ECM scan, if possible.

    Gentlemen: Thank you for the response, will try the ECM scan and look into the ETEC software.
