If you are open to purchasing a new one, we have 4 Alcom aluminum enclosed trailers on inventory reduction that are priced below dealer cost, located in Aberdeen SD, call Bryce 605-two16-778five.
I’ve seen a few on Facebook market place in SD and ND, also on FB marketplace in Glyndon MN for $350
I would highly recommend looking at Exmark, very good quality mowers and most residential machines have 5 year warranty.
Props to you for getting him something, If you get him sunglasses make sure they are military spec so he can use them, they have to be all black, no chrome, no mirrored lenses etc…… Several brands such as Oakley make military spec glasses.
I use these and love them, they hold a charge for a long time and light up a Otter Lodge hub very well.
Joe, I did read you want a 32″ but if you can’t find anyone willing to trade take it to a rod shop and have them replace the handle, some may even be able to extend the blank. I’ve also replaced some handles myself and its relatively easy.
I ordered some stuff from them on Cyber Monday, the dude I talked to said they where slammed with orders and it would be 3-4 days. It showed up at my place the next day! Long story short I’ve ordered a lot of stuff from them over the years and they have always been easy to work with and quick to ship! I have nothing bad to say!
Get ahold of Karl at https://www.sodakmuskies.com/ he is a great guy!
Bigstorm, I work at a trailer dealership and the durability/popularity of aluminum is so strong along with a narrow price difference, we don’t stock steel frame enclosed trailers anymore, also if you buy one large enough to haul a SxS in that is steel it will be a mouth full for a 1/2 truck (if you have a 1/2 ton) otherwise it doesn’t matter much.
**if you buy one to haul a SxS in make sure to get a sloped v-nose, makes it pull way easier**
I’ve threaded a bunch of these in my garage ceiling and they hold a lot of rods. easy and cheap
I would recommend upgrading to a 6’8″ MXF Legend X (retail is $430), they are very very nice. They have a split grip and the rear grip is a little longer (than other St. Croix rods) to rest your forearm on when vertical jigging and giving you more leverage, which in return probably makes it close/similar to the same length as your 6’3″ from your reel to the tip. I have handled custom rods and other high end rods and I haven’t found any I would trade for my legend X for vertical/snap jigging.
****NOT bashing custom or other rods, just trying to offer my opinion****
leave your boots at the door keeps the floor dry, Crocs with fur or sunuks are my favorite and both work great.
They are all great rods, I’ve owned them all. Depending on what you want to do with it or what size of minnows you want to run, In my opinion I would share the following on the 3:
JT snare: softest tip (very soft), fastest taper
St.Croix CCI: 2nd softest tip, fast taper
TUCR: Stiffest (for a dead stick, but not actually stiff), more moderate
Once again all great rods…you can’t really make a bad decision, I would say touch them all and decide which fits your fishing style best.
Bryan don’t over buy, buy a fair number of quality baits. The Scheels stores up north, Fargo, Grand Forks etc. all have Winnipeg sections where you can find most of the baits a guy needs. I would recommend 3-4 of each, Jackals, Live Targets, RJ spoons, Pelican spoons, Kamooki’s etc…You will find drilling a lot of holes is more important then having all the custom baits, once you hit the right fish it doesn’t seem to matter what “particular bait” you have. I would also recommend getting a bait button and tipping your baits with minnow heads. It is a great destination that is a lot of work but can be super rewarding!
Awesome fish!! She looks close to 10 if not, one thing for sure is she will be 10+ in March. Nice work letting her go!
A group of us use 3 40V SMs on Lake Winnipeg every year in March 4 days straight for 2 years now drilling at least 30 holes a day (per auger), 1 of which has a 10″ lazer bit, it drills no problem through 3′-4′ of ice, I honestly cant say its even much if any slower then the 8″ augers.
Fishthumper, I know it says 6″ but I’m looking to sell an 8″ with extra new blades, clam drill plate, coldsnap cover, along with original cover everything is in great shape. New the set up would cost $300+ i’ll let it go shipped for $230 OBO
