My downrigger is on the port side and my livescope ducer in the starboard side by my console. It is aimed slightly towards the port side. Next time I go oit I’ll move it to the side with the downrigger and see if it will display my gear clearly. I have a Tracker with the Veratrack system. I also welded and machined a removable mount for the panoptix transducer so I could move it around easily.
Finally got my livescope installed. I have it linked in with the UHD black box so I can view it on both 93sv+. Worked out pretty slick. Can’t wait to get It on the water.
I would love to see some shots of the UHD side scan
Old thread but I thought I’d chime in since I just installed my livescope.
I have ran some tests and from what I have found is while trolling with downriggers, flasher and a spoon I can see my gear about 60′ back. Any further and it wont even show on my screen. I’ll run just a 4″ spoon with no flasher about 40′ off the ball and see a faint blip for the spoon while trolling. The range on the livescope is very poor. It’s still impressive BUT its poor considering the fact Garmin says 300′.
I will often troll for Bull Trout and Lakers in lakes that often run at 250′ to 300′ deep. The Livescope cant even operate properly at that depth in my opinion.
The trick I use while trolling is to find my lure, adjust my depth on the unit as well as the forward range and I’ll get a bigger picture of my lure. Otherside it’s just too small to really see what’s going on. I imagine the new update with the zoom feature will be helpful, I just haven’t been out since I last updated the unit
Attached is a photo of the Livescope looking behind the boat. You can see a spoon running off the ball about 30′ back.
All the above sounds correct. One thing i will add is in order for quick draw to work you need to have a chart screen on. So if you have a 50/50 split with side and down quick draw will not work.
That’s strange. I often run quick draw when I’m in a river. All the lakes I fish are already in the maps provided. When I fish the river I turn of quick draw and can then exit out of the mapping screen and go straight into side scan and it will still draw the bottom for me.
How do you guys feel the Ray Marine live 3D imaging performs or compares to this latest Lowrance?
I absolutely love it. Saw it at the Boat Show two months ago. It’s very similar to Garmins ps30 transducer that they released in 2016 except for the fact the graphics at much better. I’m a fan of the historical aspects of this Technology. For the rivers it makes a lot of sense. My ps30 transducer has given me a leg up when it comes to Sturgeon fishing.
Its technically Garmins Technology. Navico settled the lawsuit with Garmin out of court. In exchange for the Panoptix Technology, Garmin will be able to use certain patents that Navico owns in regards to the UHD imaging. It’s a win win for both companies. The only company left out will be Humminbird. They are licensing all of Navicos imaging and theres no Panoptix going their way anytime soon.
I finally got a response from Garmin relating to this question.
“Hello,
Yes, the device will still draw power. Using an on/off switch would mitigate it from drawing power.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Thank you for choosing Garmin,

Since the unit will always draw power even when the transducer is out of the water and the Chartplotter is on, I’ll install a 6amp rocker switch. The unit says it draws a max 58 Watts. That’s pulling 4.83 amps on a 12 volt source at its max capacity rated by Garmin. That should do it.
I see. Not sure if that would be worth it to me. I think you can do more depth shading with the ultra but not sure
The color shading is an option. That is what I have selected.
Cool. I might be able to get by with just the US chip. Is there a big difference between the HD and the HD Ultra chip?
From what I understand is the ultra has fisheye view. That I know 100%. I forget the other differences. I set the downriggers out for Lakers. The fisheye view is great because of the historical aspect. I’m able to look back and see the average depth of suspended targets without having to remeber them all
Here are a few screen shots from my Lake VU HD Ultra Canada version. It does look like there us a extra 50 miles or so extending into the USA. I would imagine the US version is the same. As for Lake of the woods, I get the whole lake. USA and Canada.
With the ultra hd maps is all of lake of the woods on the US chip or does a guy need to buy the Canada chip to get mapping for over the boarder?
(Whitefish Bay) planning a lake trout trip up there next winter just trying to get setup now.
That is a good question. I will definitely pull out my unit and take a look for you later today. I do have the Canada version since I am in Canada. I’ll let you know if it stops at the boarder line.
There is a inline fuse with the power cable. Not sure for the power being drawn, there is definitely a light on the box at all times at least when your Garmin Unit is on. When the Garmin unit is off, Livescope if off.
Ok. Well that answers the fuse question. The manul says not included. Thank you sir !
I have the Lake View HD Ultra maps. I absolutely live them. The fisheye view is my favourite to be honest. It’s worth the money.
