Just an FYI, nothing more, but even in season that netted walleye has needs to be released.

I’m fully aware and compliant to the laws, thanks. It was just a cool encounter. All the people that have to be haters need to get a life, we did everything legally and a six year old boy got to see a once in a lifetime thing that he can’t stop talking about…. Then learned sportsmanship and morals when we released them, get off your frickin high horses. Not everyone is out to do wrong!

No worries, you’re fine. You need to have thick skin when entering these “tag team ring matches”. You shouldn’t be surprised if you’ve been on this and other forums. I have posted on other forums what I thought was totally benign only to come back to find a mob had formed ripping me a new orifice. You have no need to come back and justify anything to anyone. BTW, Your profile picture holding the big smallmouth…you look really young to have kids already. You must be some kind of freak. grin

Thank you! But that is my six year old boy holding that small mouth, that was one he caught last summer, this Saturday when we caught those walleye he also got his second 20″ small mouth, it was priceless.

No actually my son and I were trolling tiny little Rapalas for crappie, it was an incidental catch and they were released instantly, thanks for your concern though!

Merry Christmas everyone! Enjoy the time with family, be safe on the ice, if you have any! And don’t forget the real reason for the season! Hope everyone enjoys.

thanks so much for the advice, I have tried, (actually yesterday just before i posted this) several of your red marks. the weird thing is I ran three lines, one rigged like a lindy rig with a big shiner, one with a perch rig with a smaller minnow and a crawler, and one i was jigging with a jig head and large minnow. the point of the perch rig was to try and see if there were any bait fish (this lake is natorious for having gobs of 3-5 inch perch that drive you nuts while pulling crawler harness’s all spring, summer, and early fall) I did not get one nibble anywhere i fished by any bait fish… not even on the crawler. thats whats got me most baffled. i think if i can find where the bait fish went (the small perch) i will find the walleye. surprisingly i jigged the weed beds that i normally pull crawler harness’s over, and pulled up green vegetaion but nothing in the way of bait fish. this was very weird to me. anybody else see this in your own favorite lakes?

thanks guys for all the advice! I just received my first fish finder in the mail yesterday. I’m a single income father of three little boys on a blue collar income. My wife told me last week that she thought I should spend a little on myself to get a fish finder, so I found a good deal on eBay and got a lowrance x47. It’s not new but it should do the trick for 50 bucks. I fish point comfort most often, have not had any luck, hopefully now I can at least see where they are or aren’t. As for fishing the other lakes around yea I do, but they hail in comparison as far as walleye, thumb lake has no walleye in it that I know of. Hopefully this weekend I will find some fish with my new tool! Thanks again guys.

it is just on the south side of gaylord, its the biggest lake in my county…. and normally a walleye factory for me. went out again tonight, 20 mph n wind and 2 1/2 foot waves in my 14′ boat made it a little…. fun we’ll say. jumped around to a lot of different types of locations, caught one 23 1/2″ pike…. i’m at a loss

Well I tried the twenty foot hole in the north bay…. 4 hours of cold wind and freezing rain yesterday morning, big walleye minnows on jigs, and crawlers…. nothing. not even a nibble. I’m seriously at a loss, where the heck are the fish at, did they disappear?!?! I broke down and found a good deal on ebay on a used fish finder, can not wait for it to get here!

i usually stay away from trolling cranks because the weeds are so thick and high in this lake. Maybe they will be down enough now with the cold water temps to try it though.
