I have purchased and seen gaylords of strike master batteries from local recyclers. Some of these gaylord boxes are in the excess of 1000 pounds of product inside.
This was a few years ago.
The good about the 50v packs is they did contain 26650 LifePO4 cells. The bad was they did NOT have any sort of built-in “BMS”
Battery management.
Therefore the packs would get into cell imbalanced state rather quickly and become worthless as a 50v pack without internal individual cell balancing.
There was nothing for protection at all…. I dismantled plenty of them as well as the 40v packs. The 40v packs I had actually were lithium ion cells. I am not sure if they changed to LifePO4 cells or added in any addition protections.
My final non professional opinion is they were not constructed to be very safe nor were they constructed for longevity.

this was only a 40-60% chance a couple days ago, now it’s looking more like 0% and some real warm weather followed up with a couple cooler days in the 30’s- low 40’s next weekend, maybe a little light rain late week…
I’m good with that as i’m three months well overdue ready for spring.

I actually have them coming in my yard throughout the year.
One mama with two little ones as well as another mama with a single and when I’m in the backyard with the dog the little ones actually walk up curious if our dog is a new playmate.
They are so used to us being in the backyard it doesn’t bother them. We have seen various bucks somewhat substantial racks.
Just be careful not to give them that “candy” corn too late into the season as once they start switching over their diet it can be harmful cause bloat and rumen acidosis which can be deadly.
My 4str mercury which is a bit older 2004 acted very similar as well and it wasn’t even part of that service bulletin and it would start right up and idle for a while as soon as you put the coils under a rpm load she would start chugging , and then finally die. Some days it would run fine until all of a sudden it didn’t then I finally figured it out. It’s definitely on my experience turned out being a hairline crack in one of the coil packs.
If you haven’t done so yet definitely do a quick compression check to make sure a cylinder or truth and drop out.

Mercury did have a service bulletin out and they actually ended up paying/replacing a lot of coils for people.
But I believe that has now since expired.
You could even Google mercury coils and your symptoms are very familiar, at first they likely had reduced performance and then the problem becomes intermittent and it’s usually a slight crack or other in the coil that is also affected by ambient temperature with thermal expansion contraction
