I had a 2010 1500 Silverado. One winter I ran only E85 and documented the mileage. Did the same the next winter on reg unleaded w/10 pct ethanol. The cost/mile was not even close to the unleaded. I ran some unleaded/nonethanol periodically after that. I got maybe .5 mpg average better, but not worth the price diff…..jerr

My favorite popup truck camper is far and away the Texson, now called North Star. I’m on my second Texson that I bought off CL a couple years back. It was a 1 family camper that I paid a bit over $2000 for. Granted I had to do a bit of tinkering to get it back to good shape but it was all muscle power and very little out of pocket. If memory serves me, I’m thinking it’s a late 90’s vintage. I like it for the fact that I can toss it on the truck and head out for a long week-end of fishing or hook up the cargo trailer and go hide out out from the world for a few days. . jerr
August 6, 2016 at 11:04 am #1632684Dang, that’s a long ways to deliver chocolate chip cookies. Then, he’d probably want to sell me a new Warrior too. Sorry Dean, still trying to wear out the old one jerr
August 5, 2016 at 10:17 pm #1632652Sorry to say, I’ve never been in Dean’s new store and am wondering if this is the old Pro Power Sports location? If so, there were Skeeters and Warriors there back in ’04. The more things change, the more they stay the same??? jerr
August 4, 2016 at 11:14 am #1632366They’re totally brutal out here. Last evening call for the pups will see me with a long sleeved shirt and mosquito netting. I did notice tho, the past few days with the heat indexes so brutally high they weren’t as bad as when the index is down around 55*. We’re going thru a new hatch of the little dive bombers now- – -jerr
August 4, 2016 at 11:04 am #1632363Steve, I keep an older Texson pop-up truck camper for just that reason. It’s not a space hog to store and will fit a shortbox truck with the tailgate down. It doesn’t have a lot of amenities other than a fridge, stove and sink. It’s not heavy or nasty to tie down. I found mine on Craigslist from a private party. Just my .02- – -jerr

July 1, 2016 at 2:08 pm #1627319Update on the Lunk- – back in hospital for a tune-up. He dislocated his hip and the doc had me bring him back so he could replace the existing ball for one with a longer shoulder. This one will be harder to dislodge but will somewhat limit his range of motion. Poor little guy, if it weren’t for bad luck he wouldn’t have any- – -jerr
June 20, 2016 at 5:59 pm #1625461Dutchie, was down there a while back and noticed a lot different attitude in the baitshop. Distant but mildly sociable. Nothing near the good old days but better than right after Dean and his trusty wonderdog, Gus- – jerr
June 20, 2016 at 5:52 pm #1625460Good luck and get well Lunk! Don’t forget the sling under his back 40.
MX, suspect it was a hidden gene that got the best of the guy. Thankfully he was surrendered to a no-kill rescue and they are getting him patched up. The sling for his “back 40” is always with me should he show signs of stress. I let him pick his way along and give help as needed. He’s getting stronger and remains as flexible as he was before the overhaul. We go back for a check-up the end of the month. . . .jerr
June 4, 2016 at 7:38 pm #1622861I bought a ’15 Chev 2500HD 6.0 crew, 8′ box, gas last fall. I pull a 28′ 5er and sometimes a double. The power is there if your checkbook can afford the gas. . .jerr
May 22, 2016 at 10:04 am #1620701A neighbor came over and helped me burn up some campfire wood and get rid of some Crown and Chevas before it spoiled. Extra great weekend for that..
May 12, 2016 at 12:14 pm #1619228I think “be kind to stray people week” is coming up too.
First thing the rescues do is spay/neuter a stray. Are you up for that?? jerr

April 14, 2016 at 11:14 am #1613495$400 dollar coolers.
No wonder I’m turning into a curmudgeon. My first car cost $50. Am I going to pay eight times as much for a cooler as I did for my first car? Nope.

March 29, 2016 at 12:44 pm #1610166Just yesterday I tackled about a cord of twisted wet elm. No way would this thing handle it. Anything with knots would be a challenge for it. Any wood he can do that with can probably be split with a double bit ax and knowing how to use it- – jerr
March 27, 2016 at 6:03 pm #1609629I think I’ve only bought one high priced rod blank. That was for my bride when she retired from working. The rest of the blanks I used were St. Croix seconds, when they were available. I’d get a brainstorm, head for the basement, put together a rod, try it and if I liked it I’d use it for a while. The ones that were “okay” I kept, more like stood in the corner by my bench. The ones I didn’t like got donated to a kid fishing off a dock somewhere. Eventually, the “okay” ones went that way too. Over the years the favorites stay in the boat, the rest have been passed on. As with most of my hobbys, the tools and equipment are packed away in a trunk and slid under the table. Once in a while I need to rewrap a guide so it’s handy having it around- – -jerr
As an after thought,,,I think to this day my overall favorite is a 5wt St. Croix flyrod blank that I wrapped and converted it to a light spinning rod. By far and away the most versitile all around rod I own. It’s handled everything from pannys to 4# walleyes.

Unlike 7 and 8, 10 gives you no option of which, when and where to install updates. I normally wait till I have a few updates and go the the VZ’s store hotspot to do my updates. It took me right up to my data limit in no time at all. I increased my limit and got rid of the data hog. The folks at the VZ store told me this is a common problem with 10- – jerr
