I was out there fishing as well. Our group was staying at JRs and was able to catch a few before the crack opened up. There was no “rescue”. Like James said, everyone simply walked off the ice (and over the bridge) with a beer in hand and upset they couldn’tkeep fishing.
What I thought was pretty funny was that I couldn’t figure out why lines weren’t hanging straight down for a short time…felt like I was fishing in some current.
JRs is a fun place and they do a great job frying your fish.

The family and I up here right now on the far west end and my daughters are having an awesome time catching perch and pannies. This is our first time fishing vermilion and its an absolute beautiful place to hang out in a boat. We’re up here for the week at Pehrson’s lodge so hopefully we can find a few walleyes to eat.

A few tournament guys are fishing the west end but I haven’t seen anyone boat a walleye yet. Good luck to all the boats with matching shirts!

Thanks for the report! I’m headed up there the second week of December to break my Upper Red Lake cherry and cant hardly wait. (I have literally had dreams of setting the hook into some fat and sassy walleyes for the last two weeks…) What do you think the odds are that we will be able to stay on the ice in a 4 person ice castle? I would think there would be enough ice by then, but who knows…

I have the same dang fish slime allergy…developed it in high school and took me about 5 years to figure it out…winters were the worst and now I have to wear latex gloves especially on the left hand when cleaning…huge pain in the arse!

Has anyone used or heard of Louisiana Grills? I used my father’s Traeger to do 30 pounds of pork butt over the summer and loved it but didn’t like that there was no direct heat option. So after reading a ton of on-line reviews I picked up the LG-900 on black Friday from Ace and so far so good. You can set the temp anywhere from 180 to 600 and has a slide on the plate that allows you to cook over direct flame. We also use it as an oven for casseroles.

Also anyone have a brisket recipe? That is my next adventure…

I’m thinking 8 inch might get the nod. Although Huntindave has a point, losing a big walleye or pike due to hole size would haunt me for a long time. Thanks for the responses!

Train it out of him. When shooting, stick a clear piece of packing tape over his shooting glasses on his left eye. He will still be able to see out of it but not as clearly as his right. If done repeatedly, this will change his dominant eye to his right. There is a ton of info online about how it works. When attending the acedemy, my buddy was right hand but left eye dominant. The instructor put a piece of tape on the left side of his shooting glasses and boom, he was right eye dominant in a few weeks.

Got a late start today after getting in late last night. Started out on a reef and picked up a dandy perch and couple small walleyes in 35 to 20 feet of water. Moved to the wind blown side of a island in about 25 feet and nickel and dime a few more eyes, saugers, and another dandy perch. Biggest eye was 16 inches. Most eyes were 13 to 15 inches. Talked to a guy at the dock who said he caught two 21″ish walleyes while pike fishing in 6 feet of water. Going back out in a few after grabbing some grub.

Norge, just pulled into the Driftwood lodge and will be here till Saturday. My father has actually been here since last Saturday and has been having a tough go at it. He has not fished out to 30 ft yet so tomorrow we are headed deep.
Walleye Hunter, I’ll let you know how we do tomorrow. We will have to stay in touch and hopefully get on em sooner than later.

I have a galaxy s3 with sprint and it worked great in northern lake of the woods this june. I did not have any cell service the entire week either. Now if only navonics would update their maps for NE LOTW…..

When shooting a 9mm, your 2nd 3rd 4th…etc shots will be quicker and more accurate due to less recoil which means more lead on target. Ammo is less expensive and you usually get more rounds in your gun. Plus new 9mm loads are penetrating deeper than the 40. There is a reason why law enforcement are switching to the 9mm

Good Luck!!!! It looks like it is going to be a great week. Usually this is the week that we head out there and salmon fish but this year we decided to head north to Swan Lake outside of Grand Rapids. Kinda wish we were headed back to the big lake due to the awesome fishing reports I have heard.

Randy, Yeah we use what we have, some of those reels and rods are over 25 years old, every year we go fishing out there we try to buy a new one or two.

J_D, Last year we caught fish anywhere from 70 fow to 120 fow. I say it every year, but this year I am going to start writing stuff down so I can give a decent report and remember for next time. We fish mainly spoons and j-plugs on downriggers. Sometimes we try dodgers/flashers but not usually (always seem to get a huge tangle!). One thing I have learned that being on the water with poles set at 4 am is never too early when fishing out of Gills.

Fairbairn, no I haven’t heard anything about the bite. Posters on other sites do not talk about the tip of door county much, so I guess we are going to have to change that.

Guthook, we come back to MN on the 9th but if your looking for a fishing partner I would definitely turn back around and come back out the 11th 12th and 13th if you’re interested in running a few more poles. Plus it would be a great learning experience for myself because quite honestly we are more lucky then good.

Outdraft, Thanks for the info, I have never fished Sturgen Bay but have heard good things in the past from that area.

Thanks guys for the info, I figured pretty much figured I would need to buy some new mud but just thought I would ask some of IDO’s experts.

Spraying the popcorn with water worked awesome when I redid the ceilings up stairs last summer. It really cut the dust down to almost nothing.
