Went thru the same thing last year with a 681T. Put the jackplate on. I used a mechanically adjustable one. 6″ was about perfect to get the handle back far enough Works great and you can adjust it to gain some performance things (Us small motor guys need all we can get…LOL) . Prior boat I had moved the seat to acomodate the longer handle. Never will do that again. Mine is a ’06 60 etec with the same long handle your talking about. I would never give up my trim, shift and start/kill switch on the handle.
Thats the obvious but they don’t have any handle length options on the etecs.
approx 2/3 fry majic and 1/3 flour cooked in butter on med low heat. 100% fry majic is just too “rich” for my liking and 100% flour is just too bland. It’s a nice combo.
I’ve been down this road before….I seriously wouldn’t rule out a glass tiller because of weight. its really nice to have a glass boat sit in the water and not having the nose blow around in circles making you dizzy. This alone is worth it to me. Wet ride vs dry ride no comparison. Smoother ride in rougher water vs getting beat to death no comparison..(even though it would only be a 30-35mph rig it still makes a difference). As for trolling put a electric transom trolling motor on and troll forward. Best thing I ever did. I use my 60hp and then deploy my electric in reverse if needed to slow down. It’s a infinite speed/control system. Of course this is just my $.02
Actually old school technology worked best. Plain hook on a rattle reel. Jigging would bring them in long enough to see them on the flasher and then they would slam the rattle reels soon after.
We were fishing in a private house out of Castaways.
A many THANKS to everyone. Its all starting to make a little sense now.. If anyone would like a “shadow” for Thursday afternoon or Friday I could easily be talked into being one with a PM…. and my favorite GF is fun too… Much Appreciated!!
Gary, Your ideas and hers sound similar…. I’m thinking of fishing hard though to test her patience and find out if she is a “keeper”. Thanks for the suggestions
Thanks Mark. I have a gps, chip etc. Its a older chip but will work. Looking at it this morning could someone clarify the “mud flats” a little? See several xyz named flats on the chip map, are these what your talking about or are the mud flats something totally different?
I have a couple of these, the others you can tighten the drag down to the point its really hard to pull line out. This one tightened down completely you can pull line out rather easily. Its actually brand new and was that way out of the box, just forgot to return it in a timely fashion. I tore one of the good ones apart and everything seems to be the same…..IE nothing missing or misplaced…Thanks
If it wont stay out, its real simple on a Honda, would guess the same on a polaris, Where you pull your choke out there is a rubberized cover at the base. Slide this up and there is a plastic nut to tighten the friction to keep the choke out. 10 second job.
Thanks for some ideas. Most of us live in SW Wisconsin so it’s a 8 hr trip to international falls and about 6 to Mille Lacs. Probably should have put that info in my original post We are thinking 6 hrs is about as far as we want to go to only be able to fish a couple days. Info is Much appreciated!!
Probably the most painful was watching me whip several crankbaits into the tree tops while yours truly Mr Jensen laughed his A## off this spring in the middle of a moonlit night chasing Waldo’s. Painful non the less for me.
Sounds like “fairy rings” and they are hard to control and there is really nothing available commercially to spray to get rid of them. Here are a couple links related.

The best way is to aerate the area very well by taking lots of cores out and then watering. Removing the cores will allow better infiltration of the water. The other option is to fertilize more and cosmetically cover them up. I have tried the core and water method and it did wonders. Good Luck

I can actually share some Petenwell stuff from late last week. The fishing was very tough to go along with the weather. A might bit windy to say the least. Caught some legal eyes and short ones trolling and a few crappies mixed in. Didn’t feel too bad since there was a FLW Walleye tournament on Sunday where over half of the boats either never caught a legal walleye or never weighed one in and only 1 boat weighed in a 5 fish limit out of 58 boats. Really glad to see this forum.
If your interested in a strip motel this might work for you. I have stayed here a couple times. Decent place, nice owners, nothing fancy, (bed, shower, TV) very reasonable and there is a nice place to eat just down the road to the East. It’s just S. of Superior on HWY 2. There is plenty of room to park the boat out back out of sight. Sleepy Hollow Motel 715-398-6989
I could probably find some butter and fry pan to help you out there Jeff. Nice pics
I agree totaly with birddog on the process. Only suggestion would be to have a 6 pack available tahther than a couple because it takes forever to drain them
One quick thing I noticed is the difference in screen resolution (clarity) with Lowrance being higher. I was always told that Lowrance owns Eagle and uses less quality internal components. Don’t actually know if this is true. Someone else will have to fill you in on that.
Husker26, All good advice here. Updating software is extremely easy to do if you have a way to download off a computer on to a SD card from the Lowrance website. All of the updates have good improvements EXCEPT one. Word of caution if you fish the Mississippi River alot using a Navionics card you will be highly dissapointed in the wingdam color you get with the updates (Maybe not an a concern for you) They were turned from a grey line to a creamy color and you absolutely cannot see them on the screen while outside. Otherwise updates are great. Versions 2.1 and after are the ones that caused this. I think the latest version is 2.4. Good Luck
Spent a little time there at the end of last week. Late afternoon run till dark. Lots of grass coming down the river that clogged you up about every cast. Should be getting better. Fishing was a tough bite. Being an amatuer at this early spring walleye bite, it may well be my technique too. Lots of things to learn.
The Navionics chip has pool 10 in detailed contour lines and pool 11 shows a basic contour line. Lakemaster chip does not have anything of importance on pool 11 (basic water line and no wingdams) and decent information including wingdams on pool 10. Be careful if you have a Lowrance 522. When I updated to the latest software using a navionics chip your wingdam color will change from a faint grey to a creamy color and it is nearly impossible to see them with the light blue water background. Hope this helps

Here is a pretty good etec forum. Do a search and I think this type of thing has been discussed. I have a 60HP that was acting similar. turned out to be the EMM (Computer board) not functioning correctly. Sent to factory and had it reprogrammed. Solved the problem. I would also suggest having your dealer check for any software updates. The last suggestion would be to ask the dealer about a TPS calibration. (TPS=Throttle position sensor) Search all of these things on the link above.
Good Luck
Nick, I have tried everything imaginable with the settings that I can think of.
I was at Cabelas a couple weeks ago and the Navionics rep was there and he seemed to know about this problem and the local Lowrance rep standing next to him didn’t seem to care. Kinda aggrevating.
Wade, Thanks for the follow up. I sent you a PM and email earlier today. Would you have any connections with someone at Lowrance that I could call rather than the normal “support” people?
Has anyone else updated their software on any Lowrance units that fishes the Mississippi notice anything similar?
thanks
Thanks for the input. I dug around and found where I read it was OK to do this on another forum just to make sure I wasn’t dreaming it up. After I thought about it, I should have known better that you can’t hook a 12V lead to a 24V system without causing problems. Thanks Again.
If your TM batteries are wired in series why can’t you charge both of them at the same time. Just curious as to why Minn Kota says not to.. I read somewhere that it is possible but it would basically take twice as long to charge the TM batteries. I am definately not a expert on the issue so advice is a good thing for me. I have a 2 bank charger and have them connected to each TM battery but was thinking about using 1 bank to charge my starting battery and the other for my TM batteries rather than having to buy a new 3 bank charger. I don’t want to screw something up though. Any more thoughts on this?
