When Adam asked the other boater “what the Fudge was he doing”, those would be fighting words where I fish. Yes, assaulting someone is a bit of a stretch. I don’t think I implied that you or anyone else gets “that mad”. It was merely an example of how anger gets people in trouble. But I have to ask: What is a “richard cranium move”? Is it what you call a psychotic break in Minnesota? Maybe something covered in your Rule 35 or 36?

It isn’t always that easy. Let me go on briefly to say that I sometimes have a temper that is hard to control. Sometimes it is better to just leave rather than ram the other boat at speed and drive over the other fishermen until the water is red. I can’t always do what I know is best which is one of the things that makes me human, so I just leave before my temper takes over. I’m sure others feel this way sometimes.

Gimruis is right. It’s a moral, ethical and respect issue. To fish too close to someone else is an offense against social mores. It has nothing to do with written “laws”. If you explain this to people who won’t respect your “space” they will be less likely to do it again. This is how we teach our children proper behavior. Some need more lessons than others. I would guess that Adam is less likely to have repeat issues with other boats than fishermen that just pack up and leave. I remember in the 1950’s when it got popular to hijack commercial airliners. That lasted until the Israelies intervened and killed all the hijackers & ended the copycat crimes. No, I am not suggesting you kill the offending fishermen, so don’t even go there.

Gun rights mean nothing unless you practice them. Same with fishing, You can either ignore your rights to be outside of the casting distance of other boats, or you can take offense and tell the other boater to stay away. The fact that professional guides earn a living on public waters doesn’t give them any rights that you don’t have. If you solidly berate disrespectful boaters, (within the law) maybe they will a bit reluctant to bring their customers within spitting distance of your boat. If you don’t stand up for your rights, you will find you don’t have any.

I never had trouble at the border or with the OPP. Overall I found the OPP to be helpful, especially at the remote locations like IR21 (Grassy Narrows).

I think it’s strange, when someone makes a statement about how he feels, 3 or 4 chime in to argue as though you don’t have a right to your opinion. It’s as though some see others opinions as a debate topic that needs to be argued. Usually that is a sign of insecurity or low self-esteem, and yes, I worked professionally in the mental health arena for 30 years, so I might have a clue. Watch the responses to this email if you think I’m wrong.

I’ve made numerous hunting & fishing trips to Ontario and enjoyed them all. I just don’t see myself going back. I still fish and hunt but usually closer to Hayward. I don’t begrudge you going to Canada & I hope you enjoy it.

Try fishing Lake Geneva after dark in the summer, especially near Fontana. I moved 365 miles away 30+ years ago & never fished there again. Besides, 9# walleyes taste like the bottom of the lake.

I stopped going to Canada 23 years ago because I found out that it was illegal to drink a beer in your own boat w/o regard if you were actually running the boat. Then a few years later I stopped drinking entirely. I never went back and probably won’t ever. No DWI & never arrested. The fishing isn’t that great there anyways. If you want a big walleye go to Lake Geneva or a big northern, go to Green Bay, or Chequamegon Bay.

I quit tobacco 17 years ago~no problem. I was in the hospital having a myocardial infarction and would you believe….they wouldn’t let me smoke! So I quit. No problem…..I was on a morphine drip and I didn’t have any withdrawal issues at all. Haven’t used any nicotine since …..because if I gave in, I would be hooked again and I know it. And yes, I tried various chews and other methods to quit before the heart attack.

A few years ago I was in Lake Superior by the Bad River in my 17′ Bayliner and it started to get stormy. On the way back to Washburn the waves were coming over the deck. then the windshield, then over the convertible top and down the backdrop. Dry inside the boat but scary and I never went back. I put my life jacket on & the girl I was with said should I put mine on too? I said “I would”. A week or so before that I fished same place with a local in his 14′ aluminum with a 15 hp. and we did well.

I think the boat is a 1987. It has a conventional (straight) bench seat with a pedestal seat near center. The base for the seat is cracked because it didn’t have enough strength in the first place for the driver to operate from. I replaced the base but the screws pulled out. I think I’ll configure the bench to an “L” shape like the Pic above. Also will anchor it to the floor. Thank you for your replies. I thought I would be notified of replies but I guess not.

My MIL liked to fry up sturgeon steaks. They looked like a fresh tuna steak, same color and texture. I liked them smoked, kind of reminded me of smoked catfish but not as white. Haven’t eaten any in many years. Some Sawyer county lakes had evidence of Sturgeon up to 170#. Still some big sturgeon at Jim Falls.

In 1959 when I was 14, I was fishing Lake Geneva off a private dock with an old wood fly rod and a white jig they called a pinkie (?) and I caught 7 crappies each about a foot long (+). The lake was not noted for Crappies and I never caught another (before or after) despite lots of L.G. fishing that followed. About the same time the neighbor lady caught several x-lg bluegills that each completely covered a dinner plate. She caught them while she was fishing off one of Wriggley’s docks where she had permission to fish. Never got anymore like that. On L.G. I had (few) evenings when I got big walleyes, usually two at a time, I recall times that I got a 6# & 6 1/4# fish, another time I got a7# & 7 1/4# and another night I got a 8 # 8 1/4, and another time I got a 9# & 9 1/4 # fish. I fished a lot then, in the 1970s. I think my various catches were “same year” class fish. We ate them all which no doubt was bad judgment on our part but this was 50+ years ago on a 5000 acre lake.

It’s time to develop a vaccine to protect our deer herd. It worked for polio, small pox, measles, etc. Put an end to this “shoulda, coulda talk.

I bought a little 12 T. press from Harbor Freight years ago. Not much $$ & handy to have.

I had the MN class and the MN permit before WI had a permit available. The MN class I took included live fire. The license expired five years later but I didn’t renew it because it involved a road trip of several hours to a MN Sheriff’s Office to renew. Also, I think at that time MN accepted WI permits. So now I can’t carry in MN with my WI permit. Bah! It’s easier just to unload and case up when in MN. I don’t go there much anyways. Just for reference: I’m 75 years old and I have NEVER been checked for a concealed gun in my life. Not before I got my concealed carry permit or after.

I’ve had a Polaris Explorer for the past 20 years that I’ve used for snow-plowing and pulling deer out of the woods. Then about 6 years ago I bought a Polaris Razor-S for snow and deer… I find the Razor to be better for snow-plowing but worthless for going in the woods to drag out my deer. It’s too big, and it doesn’t fit in the bed of my truck~~too wide.

My advice is to buy from an old person who is smart enough to know that mud and submersion are bad for seals, bearings and grease joints. (We don’t have seals in this North-country but we have lots of bears and mud holes). My 20 y.o. Polaris Explorer is still running the original seat, drive belt and tires. The plastic is all intact.

Trust me, I sure as heck did NOT get a concealed carry license so I could shoot someone. I thought I made that clear.

I’m thinking that before the salmon stocking took hold that in the late sixties and early seventies the Kenosha beaches had the delicate, slightly fishy odor of TONS OF DEAD ALEWIVES. That must have been about the time American Motors gave it up.

Kenosha wasn’t that bad of a town back then. We fished the harbor from shore all night for years. Other than one bad incident I had with a doped up group of shitheads, never had safety issues

Randy, I grew up 25 miles from Kenosha. I recall that it wasn’t good to be the only white guy in a black area, but I never had any problems. Because I never went there.

I think that anyone who kills someone should have to Justify it in court just like you or I would have to. No more, no less. We can’t have a situation where law enforcement can kill someone just because they don’t follow a directive. Wisconsin doesn’t have the death penalty. When I took my concealed carry class fifteen years ago, I understood that rule NUMBER ONE is don’t ever shoot anyone. Rule two is if you do shoot someone be prepared to be able to prove it to the court! Rule three is go back to rule one. It’s THAT serious.

What could have been done to avoid the problem is just half of it. Shooting a suspect because he “might” escalate the danger is way different than shooting a suspect who HAS escalated the danger (by grabbing a weapon for example). If it was legit to kill a suspect because he might or could escalate, then why not shoot him in the front of the vehicle because of what he might or could do later? Put your son in Blake’s place. Is it okay for law enforcement to kill him when the only “offense” was disobeying the officer’s order?

We have to see what additional evidence surfaces.

I haven’t fished Chequamagon Bay in so long I forgot how to spell it, BUT probably has some of the best fishing in Wisconsin. Launch in Ashland or Washburn. Fish the western shore of the bay in the many weed beds for nice northerns or the mouth of the Bad River for Northerns, walleye, bass or maybe salmon, and everywhere in between. Nice city campground on the lake in Washburn. I found the people in Ashland to be very helpful with fishing information. You could run down south of Mellen about 10 miles on Hwy. GG And fish VERY rural lakes such as Mineral, English, and Potters Lakes for Musky. Let me add that while the water temp in some of the shallow lakes can be toasty, it ain’t necessarily so in the bay. I’m not an expert but I think what happens is when the wind blows from the south it takes the hot surface water and blows it off shore which causes the deeper cooler water to come in shore. I’m not sure if this actually happens BUT I have experienced it with the 10-12′ depths in the lower 50s. so don’t let the hot weather scare you off.

My future FIL was out of the home so I didn’t ask. Beside that my wife asked me for my hand in marriage. I supposed she asked her mom first. That was almost 40 years ago. It turned out okay.

I left my Wisconsin Child Protection job 20 years ago. Soon afterwards we lost our union protection and the job NOW pays the same as it did when I left…..20 years ago. Good for the state, maybe but good for the people, no, not with the present unmotivated work force. You get what your money buys and seldom more. I was UAW 50 years ago in a foundry and the same job paid 50% in a non union shop. Horrible work environment, like dying and going to Hell. But it paid good, over 3 bucks an hour. You could buy a new Ford Mustang for $2500. in 1964 1/2.
