Ranger 2080 Angler has jump seats, probably considerably cheaper than the Vexus. So does the Skeeter WXR2060F. Both 20′ boats. I run an older (2013) Ranger 2050 Reata (similar to the Angler) and its been a great boat.

As others have said there are bass on all sides of the lake. Looking at the wind forecast this weekend the SE side of the lake will be your best bet. Sundays forecast of 10-15 out of the South will make the north side unfishable. Be careful out there the wind on that lake is no joke. That said have fun, great thing about Mille Lacs is every cast could be a 6 pounder.

My family and I do a lot of clay shooting (mostly sporting clays) and I reload but its not the money saver it once was. Costs me a little over $6.00 a box to reload using hulls I pick up at the range for free. I mostly do it because its easier to have enough reloading supplies around to weather the next time shells become hard to find than store dozens of cases of shotgun shells. Also keep in mind reloads are not permitted in high school trap.

I second everything TGF said earlier in this thread, you need to actually pattern the gun, choke and load you are going to use to see what works. You want the pattern centered with the highest number of pellets uniformly distributed in a 30″ circle @ 35 yards. Some like the pattern to be a little high for a dedicated trap gun since you are shooting rising targets but for most people that will be also hunting with their guns a centered pattern is best. The only way to know what your pattern looks like is to shoot a pattern board, there are plenty of YouTube vids showing how. But even before hitting a patterning board the gun needs to fit, most gunsmiths can help with this or again find a video. (The gunsmith @ Joe’s Sporting Goods checks youth shooter’s fit for free) Even with an off the shelf hunting gun there are things (pads, shims, etc) that can be done to correct fit.

I currently have 2 of the Scheels Nano One medium light walleye rods. I like how light the are in the hand and the sensitivity but some times they feel a bit stiff and pull the jig out of the fished mouth.

Any recommendations for a good quality medium light <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>walleye jigging rod? I have been looking at St. Croix Legend Elite, TUCR, Elliot, JT. I’m ok spending the money for a high end rod.

If you don’t mind spending the money then in my opinion the G Loomis NRX drop shot rod is the best jigging rod I’ve tried and I’ve tried a lot of rods. https://www.gloomis.com/collections/conventional-bass/products/nrx-plus-dropshot Even though its intended as a bass drop shot rod it works great for finesse jigging walleyes, extremely light and sensitive and being a drop shot rod it has a “soft” tip. Joe’s in St. Paul just had them 20% off but I think that sale ended Sunday.

I have mine booked this fall. Asked my daughter what she wanted for a high school graduation present and she said she wanted to go elk hunting. Doing a guided/outfitted trip to New Mexico in October.

At least 3 feet low compared to normal summer water level. Lower than normal for this time of the year also. A lot of rocks sticking out of the water you don’t usually see. Water was too low for me to launch my boat at Nelson’s on Crane.

I’ll be up at the cabin this weekend and do some fishing but for me the serious fishing doesn’t start until the next weekend when the Ontario side opens.

Considering how Jerome Iginla used to own the Wild, might be nice to have his kid on the roster.

Anybody know if you can still get through the shallow area where the river widens part ways between Birchdale and Frontier? In a normal year a lot of that is under 5 feet.

If you like WW II first person accounts: Spearhead: An American Tank Gunner, His Enemy, and a Collision of Lives in World War II by Adam Makos is one of the best I’ve read. Follows the accounts of both a German and American tank crewman through the war up to their fateful meeting in the German city of Cologne late in the war. Also is the back story to one of the most iconic combat film clips of WW II.

I don’t disagree with you guys. Maybe it’s semantics, but to word it as “they are coming for high school trap now” seems a bit sensationalized. I clicked on the article thinking some politicians were using one of the many current events to try and take the guns away and eliminate the HS trap leagues. There are plenty of quiet gun owners who are reasonable, but there’s always a very vocal crowd that turns every single thing into “they’re coming to take our guns!” And I just felt that wording this as “they are coming for high school trap now” sounds kind of like that.

Correct which as the article says will severely curtail or kill the sport due to added costs and lack of availability. The ban applies to all ammo too hunting and target shooting but the bill specifically calls out the high school league to switch to non-toxic shot.

Wondered what was going on, saw a sheriff’s boat ripping through the no wake zone at full speed in the afternoon.

It’s illegal to carry when under the influence of alcohol as well. No difference there.

Alcohol causes many more problems, crashes, and deaths than marijuana does. Yet people don’t have any problems with alcohol being legal.

The big difference is that its not a federal felony to have a beer if you own a gun. It is a federal felony to smoke a joint if you own a gun. https://www.atf.gov/news/pr/atf-provides-clarification-related-new-minnesota-marijuana-law

They have but on If they meet the thresh hold for boats or entry fees. The specific example mahto gave was purposely under the minimum boat thresh hold so they weren’t required to have one. My point is that even a 20 boat event is a lot for most lakes around here. What if the lake only has 20 parking spots? Then it’s completely full by 6am. The least they could do is post when and where they are so that lake can be avoided at the time.

For the record regarding the specific example Mahto gave (Greenhorn) although they limit the number of boats to 24 they always pull a permit. (I fished the Wednesday night series for years) Go look at the DNR link of permitted tourneys in the first post of this thread, it shows all the Greenhorn tourneys with permits.

Bought a Smith & Wesson M&P pistol with a Crimson Trace dot sight installed at the factory. Dot suddenly lost zero and wouldn’t adjust when turning the screws. Filled out the online Crimson Trace contact form with my issue and a brand new sight showed up 2 weeks later, no requirement to send back the old one or anything.

This is my first time really handling or shooting one of these and I have a feeling it may not be the last one I buy. Especially since I let my wife shoot sporting clays with it yesterday and it looks like it may have turned into her Mother’s Day present.

I think they had it mis-priced. Looking through ended auctions on Gun Broker similar age and condition ones were selling for 2-3 times more.

    Question:

Are all the HS leagues all just bass. Is there any walleye or open all species?

I know if I was back in HS I would be way more into this than shagging batting practice for a couple hours and I loved playing ball with my buddies.

SATT did a walleye tournament on Mille Lacs last year, I don’t see one on the schedule for this year.

I’ve been boat captaining for my kids the last few years, never seen a high school league that does live weigh-ins. (Not doubting you just never seen it) SATT is the organization that runs most of the high school fishing in MN and they are strictly catch-photo-release tourneys.

I have a 2013 Ranger 2050 Reata which has the same battery/charger/jump seat situation. My low-tech solution was to just attach a 3′ extension cord to the charge cord and run it out under the jump seat and onto the back deck. With the cover on it sticks out a couple inches so I don’t have to lift that up to plug it in. On the very rare occasion anyone actually sits in that jump seat I just pull it into the compartment so there isn’t any excessive weight it.
