BW’s counts above look pretty accurate. I should’ve clarified above that our 190lbs for $700 was pre-processing weight. I looked at my invoice and we ended up with 52# of ground. Going by Jeremy’s 40% rule we ended up with a total of 115# with steaks and roasts which sounds about right. Comes to $6.08/lb which isn’t bad in my book. Best part, when you do this you are typically directly supporting a small family farm and a small business butcher.

    Just bought a 1/4 few months ago. Around $700. 190lbs, $500 + $200 processing.

Just saw novak weather said potential “Big Snow Maker” for Thursday LOL.

He’s awesome for weather information and explains things real well. You just have to keep in-mind that his revenue is based on viewers and sponsorships.

I usually look at his snowfall predictions and tone them down a notch. As for the “where” and “when” he’s pretty spot on…just pushes the extremes a bit with his graphics and predictions to generate views.

He’s great but you are correct on the fact he does have to hype things once in a while. I think he is the one I saw describe Thursday’s event as a “modified clipper” or something along those lines. Our weather for so long has been pretty boring. It’s no wonder they have to hype a 2″ snow system. Pretty good chance for a white Christmas anyway.

Don’t wait if you can help it. Currently 2 weeks into recovery from partial shoulder replacement. So far so good but have a ways to go. Trouble is there is no good time to have these things done.

Great Counterpoint however people don’t want to see or admit the record unemployment rates. If Trump was in office last 4 years you would hear how great the unemployment rate is and people wouldn’t counterpoint.
As far as 401k’s go? I looked and mine is BOOMING. What I think is funny is when Trump was in office all you heard was “have you looked at your 401k lately” now…. people don’t want to talk about how good it has been. To prove that, just read the comments after this post.

I’m glad I’m not the only one noticing this. 2021 and 2023 S&P 500 returns were 2 of the top 5 years in the last 25 years for S&P returns and 2024 is tracking to also be in that top 5. My 401k has been absolutely killing it the last few years. If you average the S&P 500 returns over POTUS45 and 46’s terms, they’re darn near identical. The silence is deafening

There silence is because deafening due to the fact they need to work double the hours to buy groceries I’d assume.
My pension is still booming and has through all of it. ( thank you union).

X2. Had to look it up, but the purchasing power of the dollar has been in decline for a while but I wanted to compare 45 to 46. During 45’s term it declined 7.3% and during 46’s 17%. Yes 401k’s have been doing great lately but that’s only part of the story. A person can cherry pick numbers all day long to show one POTUS or the other in a better light. (which I guess I just did) But, you’d have to admit in general people are not better off financially today than they were 4 years ago (except COVID of course).
Sorry BC, didn’t mean to attribute that whole quote to just you. Site wouldn’t let me do multiple quotes.

Like many I was pissed off and shocked that they were allowed to leave. Most memories I have of the Stars are sitting in the living room with the old man and listening to the games with Al Shaver doing the play by play. The only game we went to was when I was, I believe, a Squirt and our team got to play between periods of a Stars vs Blackhawks game in about ’83-’84. I managed to score the only goal in that tilt and still remember the crowd going wild. rotflol The other thing that stuck out during that was how chewed up the ice was from the pros. I meant to watch the documentary but fell asleep.

Our property value went down a little which I think was a correction and I’m not arguing. Total taxes went up 2.5% mainly due to a school levy which I supported. That said, I do feel we are overtaxed mainly at the county level. Just see way too much waste. Wright county

Got any recommendations on shuttles and poles Joe? You seem pretty in tune with the livescopes. I think im gonna go with a whole new 34 system and just sell my 32 package. I figure the cost should work out about the same vs just buying the 34 ducer for my existing set up.

The new HD Innovations stuff looks really good…its from the same guy who designed the Summit stuff and left and started his own company

Buddy just picked up the HDI setup and I was impressed. Shuttle is like most but the telescoping carbon fiber pole is slick. Tempted to upgrade my factory Humminbird pole in favor of the HD. And their pricing seems reasonable.

if you’re worried about 50 being too cold, get them a small kennel with an electric heated pad for inside the garage. the tiny bit of heat and small enclosure would make it toasty warm in there.

X2. B-Man said it best, but if you’re concerned a heated pad is an easy solution.

Yes, but don’t need a 10″. It will work fine in an 8″ hole.

What years were the trucks? Is it (supposedly) fixed in newer ones?

2018, 2019, and 2020. I believe these were the worst years for the phasers. 2018 had them done 3 times. Replaced that one with a 5.3 Silverado so we’ll see how that goes.

Ford/GM have issues just like this with darn near every one of their last few generations of half tons.

you don’t say. Did those companies have a recall to replace a poop ton of engines? Toyota makes good vehicles but they are not without fault. At least my truck doesn’t sound like a garden tractor either.

That’s the thing, Toyota recalls them and fixes them. The big 3 just let the consumer deal with it. Only personal experience is with the Ford EB. 3 trucks, 5 cam phaser replacements in the last 5 years to the tune of $20k. Not high mileage either. And oil change intervals didn’t exceed 5k miles

Toyota did have serious issues with the new turbo engine early on. Over 100,000 ’22 and ’23 models. A lot of info online about it. But, they’re doing the right thing and recalling and replacing all affected engines. SIL bought the hybrid version this fall and I am very impressed with that truck. I’ve ran Ford for 30 years and the latest cam phaser failure was the last straw. The Tundra will likely be my next truck.

    From a google search…

“StrikeMaster recommends against sharpening their power auger blades. The blades are very sharp and have precise angles, and attempting to sharpen them can damage the blade’s hardness. If the blade has any dings, knicks, or roll-over on the leading edge, StrikeMaster recommends replacing it with a new factory-packaged blade.”

    Imagine that! jester

I agree. I have live scope also and love having it in the shack or house but prefer my vex for hole hopping. Live scope shuttles suck for hopping around in my opinion.

X2. A live system plus a flasher is a great combo when hole hopping.

Read through the whole thread… guess I am old school. I still run the MagLites from over 20 years ago… small, Medium and Large.. all still work. (aircraft aluminum you know)

Nothing wrong with the ole MagLites especially if you replace the bulbs with LED.

Sierra Gameking 117gr SPT in my .26-06 have been very effective. Once those are gone, which will likely be a while, I’ll probably switch to a non-lead option like Barnes.

Sounds like you have the ideal situation for a skid house. Having a lake place to keep it is the key if you don’t have to trailer it. I’d be leery about leaving it on the lake if you’re not there. Unless there’s a way to anchor it down to keep it from walking away. An aluminum skidhouse will be my next ice fishing investment in the next year or two. Being able to leave all the gear in it locked up at the cabin and just hook up and go would be the cat’s meow.

I’ll be in the market next spring/early summer. Hoyt will be at the top of my list but will look at others. Been out of the game long enough to have little clue what’s out there. That RX9 Ultra looks pretty sweet but not so sure I’m willing to spend that much. I’m with you on the short ATA, 32-33″ is where I’d like to be. What gets me is the speed they are getting out of these bows without needing a crazy draw weight. Looks like I’ll be reading a lot of reviews this winter while recovering from shoulder work.

Quite the show this morning. Seen 5 bucks now. The bigger 8 and two small 8s are all chasing a doe. The bigger one had her cornered, but then she took off and they all went running. Then a 7 came through licking his lips. hah

spend his days pulling everything out of his immaculate shed, doing subtle maintenance on stuff that’s barely used, then put it back in the same spot while telling me “how busy he is”.
