Read through the whole thread… guess I am old school. I still run the MagLites from over 20 years ago… small, Medium and Large.. all still work. (aircraft aluminum you know)

Nothing wrong with the ole MagLites especially if you replace the bulbs with LED.

Sierra Gameking 117gr SPT in my .26-06 have been very effective. Once those are gone, which will likely be a while, I’ll probably switch to a non-lead option like Barnes.

Sounds like you have the ideal situation for a skid house. Having a lake place to keep it is the key if you don’t have to trailer it. I’d be leery about leaving it on the lake if you’re not there. Unless there’s a way to anchor it down to keep it from walking away. An aluminum skidhouse will be my next ice fishing investment in the next year or two. Being able to leave all the gear in it locked up at the cabin and just hook up and go would be the cat’s meow.

I’ll be in the market next spring/early summer. Hoyt will be at the top of my list but will look at others. Been out of the game long enough to have little clue what’s out there. That RX9 Ultra looks pretty sweet but not so sure I’m willing to spend that much. I’m with you on the short ATA, 32-33″ is where I’d like to be. What gets me is the speed they are getting out of these bows without needing a crazy draw weight. Looks like I’ll be reading a lot of reviews this winter while recovering from shoulder work.

Quite the show this morning. Seen 5 bucks now. The bigger 8 and two small 8s are all chasing a doe. The bigger one had her cornered, but then she took off and they all went running. Then a 7 came through licking his lips. hah

Sounds like a heckuva fun morning! You’re killing me though as I sit in the office. smirk

spend his days pulling everything out of his immaculate shed, doing subtle maintenance on stuff that’s barely used, then put it back in the same spot while telling me “how busy he is”.

One of life’s goals right there.

Congrats on a couple of nice deer DT and Jeff! Boy and I sat this morning thinking the cold would have them moving. Not so much in our neck of the woods.

Boy had an opportunity on a small buck Saturday afternoon that ended with a clean miss. A little excitement for him that hopefully keeps him motivated. Didn’t sit yesterday as the wind was not good for our stand placement. Back out tomorrow morning. The buck in the pic has been in the area so we’ll see. Blaze orange on a ground blind is only required on public.

Quiet in the blind this morning with junior. Sat for 2 1/2 hours which ended up being about 20min too little. Got back to the house and scanned the field edge with binos and watched a small buck walk 30yds from the blind! I blame my bladder for this one. At least we know they’re around. First shot heard this morning was 6:37 which was right on the money.

CaptainMusky……..YOU can thank our illustrious leaders in st Paul for that!!!

If it’s anything like Wright county, the county board of commissioners made the decision to build a new jail. Which also included a new justice building and a new administrative building.

But don’t worry, here’s a quote from the Stearns county board “Commissioners will be highly vested in this project over the next several years and will be vigilant to minimize cost and be fiscally conscious of spending taxpayer dollars. As the project moves forward, they will make decisions that will keep costs down.”

Hey Andrew, here’s another vote for a topper. My current truck has what I consider the best setup for me. I have an ARE fiberglass topper with the flip up side windows that allow me to reach everything in the truck. Last year I added a Decked system, and it works awesome with the kennels, and now all the hunting gear that used to go in the back of the truck in totes or duffel bags goes into the drawer system. The Decked has tie downs, and I push the kennels all the way to the back to create lots of space and tie them down. It also raises everything up a foot or so, making it lots easier to get at everything through the windows.

I think this is the way to go. Had a similar setup in my last truck. Made my own “decked” drawer system out of plywood. Nice thing is anything you have in the drawers is quite secure with the tailgate locked. We run the kennels toward the rear of the bed on the deck and then access all the misc gear up front through the side windows.

Thanks youbetcha and good point. Setting up just north of what appears to be their main trail probably wouldn’t be a bad plan either. I’m sure no matter what, they’ll do the opposite of what I think they’ll do. Was able to watch a very nice buck through the binoculars last night feeding that edge. Excited to hopefully get the boy his first opportunity to shoot a deer this year.

I wish 87-89 non-oxy was available more widespread. Not only do most average 4 strokes not benefit from 91, they may actually benefit from a lower octane. That is the case with my Canam Defender in cold weather.

Does that count as taking the bait?

That neutralizes the situation. Thanks BB.

500 ft rule doesn’t apply if your hunting in the water with your back to the dwelling.

Now this I did not know. I’ve never attempted to hunt a developed lake but our cabin is on a lake that is duck hunted pretty heavily. I do think that just out of common courtesy I’d avoid hunting very close to a inhabited home or cabin.

I’ll echo the comments above about contacting and getting to know the local CO and also introducing yourself to these hunters and possibly teaming up if they seem decent.

If it was a simple renewal of what has been in place I’d vote yes, which I did the first time. For reasons already stated I’ll be voting no on it.

Shoot, didn’t see that this was posted already. From what I’ve heard, things haven’t been great for Alumacraft employees lately and I wouldn’t imagine this will help. But who knows. Just thought it was interesting that BRP is offloading so quickly.

I don’t fish the river but this is a great thread. I’d say a lot of these work equally well on lakes this time of year. Agree with the pause on a jerkbait. I’m a fan of the shadow rap both original and deep. Anytime I’ve used them, 90% of the bites come on the pause. They can also work really well trolled.

The same guy has a 2003 with 1100 miles for the same price. The ’03 does have a winch and detachable tall windshield while the ’06 does not have either. I don’t think Yamaha changed much in those 3 years so I might go with the ’03

Bucky, do either of them have independent rear suspension? That was just getting added to those models around that time. That IFS is a nice upgrade on those machines. Only downside would be if you plan to tow a trailer with much tongue weight.

I also know someone who has dual residencies and was down there trying to deal with the damage from the last one and was told to evacuate on Monday. This is why places like that are nice to visit but would never want to live there.

Ditto. Know someone with a place in Cape Coral who dealt with moderate damage after Ian a couple years ago. They’ve been questioning owning a place there lately and this may be the last straw.
Used to think it would be nice to have a place there for retirement. I’ve given up on that thought.

I have twp racks of Baby Backs in the smoker at the moment. One rack for Ma and I and the other for the stepson and his wife.

Got the same thing going here. 3-2-1 method.

I’ll admit I didn’t buy the Dewalt trimmer to be “green”. Actually like the smell of 2 stroke smoke. I certainly wouldn’t be ditching a working ICE tool just to go electric. Cordless electric is not for everyone, but they just plain work. And Glenn is right, recycling these batteries is going to be a huge issue in the future, if not already. Lithium is recyclable, but I’ve read that the cost to do so is way more than the cost to mine it in the first place. I don’t doubt that lithium will be replaced by the next best thing in batteries before too long.

I went with a Dewalt 20v trimmer because I already had a number of woodworking tools to share batteries. 2 acre rural lot and I can do all my trimming with on 5ah battery. I’m happy with it. I noticed the same thing about not having to run at full “throttle”. Will eventually pick up a small chainsaw for smaller work. SIL has a full set of Milwaukee tools for their wooded city lot. I’ve been thoroughly impressed seeing what his mower, polesaw, chainsaw, trimmer, and blower can do.
