It’s just a spool of wire with a handle. You drop the probe in the water and let out as much wire as you want to check at depth. Would be cool to have for lake Superior, but I don’t do that yet.. there’s probably 100′ or more on the spool

I have and old one that came with my boat that you can have. I’ve never used it, so no guarantees that it works. Located near owatonna, headed to leech this weekend.

Yup. Sweet rod, and customer service is great. I just brought mine in for a missing ring in the end guide. Charged me 3 bucks and I was outta there and catching trout within ten minutes

Have you seen the tubes Babe Winkleman uses on his property? The deer and rabbits can’t get at the tree and the tube forces the tree to reach for the sky. In like two years you have a tall spindly tree, that they cannot reach the top of. Seems to work. Check it out

One time, me and a buddy were riding single track trails on our dirtbikes, and I had slow speed a wipeout. I looked back to see if buddy saw what happened and there was a grouse like three feet away, drumming at me and dancing around. It wanted to be more than friends I think! Lol.
Later, at camp a guy told us that grouse are attracted to “thumper” motors and he would shoot lots of them riding his old three wheeler around as a kid

Back when I was a laborer for a concrete company I went through a pair or two off the Reebok’s with the side zipper. As far as I can remember they were very comfortable and lasted pretty well for the abuse I put them through. I really liked how easy they were to put on and take off, with the zipper and they were super light weight

Weiderholt’s in Meisville is similar to Ranchero. Curious, what did you have at the Ranchero? I vaguely remember having a really good cocktail or three there last time I went..?

I live in a rural area. Not the city, where all you uptight people get all bent if I don’t accelerate at what you think is a fast enough rate. I don’t impede traffic and if I come up on a slower vehicle I give space or pass them. I keep good tires on my truck and there’s no skipping or spinning.

I’ve seen guys use charcoal in a metal coffee can before. Place it near the hole and the melted snow and ice trickles into the hole and keeps it open.

I think it should be on the individuals. Either they knew, and took a chance, or they were ignorant, which shouldn’t fly, cuz we all know it wouldn’t if were one of us amateurs.

Just curious, is MN one of the only states that only allows one line?

Hop in my boat and go walleye fishing with me on lake Pepin. I catch them all over the place in the same ways I walleye fish. Trolling, jigging, rigging, bobbers.
They seem to be in and around current and on structure. I also catch a lot of them in the cannon river and it’s chain of lakes while panfishing. They love worms.
A very underrated fish. They fight like hell, and actually taste great if you bleed em and get them on ice right away

Looking forward to reading your posts Ed. Headed to the Tampa Bay area for Christmas vacation and I will be fishing as much as I can make time for.
I read your post about reds and I’m hoping to get a little of that action, sounds like a blast!

Yeah, either try a rod with some more give or a line with some stretch to it. They were probably just shaking off.

What do you do with all of them? My in-laws have a huge tree that’s just loaded every year, and we eat a bunch fresh, but they just don’t stay fresh for long. Do you have any ways to preserve them?

Don’t know anything specific about the XT but the rest of the Destination line has been underwhelming to say the least. I would stick with the KO’s.

Thanks John. I’m actually sitting at 57k on these ko2’s. Could probably make it to 70.. I think I’ll take your advice.

I am close to needing a set of tires on my truck. The KO2’s have been great and would certainly get them again. I have been really bad at rotating and am currently sitting at about 50k and have decent tread left.
My tire guy recommends the Firestone Destination XT, which look pretty comparable. Anybody here tried them? And what did you think of them? 300 bucks cheaper for the Firestones..

This months in-fisherman had an article about how the people at powerbait have tested all kinds of things to see how fish react to them.
Sunscreen was one of the things they wouldn’t touch if the smell was on the bait.
However, lures dipped in gas and oil didn’t stop the fish from gobbling the bait right up.

Ever heard of old-timers saying WD-40 works as fish attractent? Maybe it works as sunscreen too…

Get two birds stoned at once! lol

I’d like to do a fly-in trip in northern Ontario. Just bounce around to a bunch of little lakes and see what bites.

    Definitely worth the investment.
I find myself using casting rods more and more. My go-to walleye rig was almost always a medium light spinning rod.
Now, anything with a single hook, I like a medium heavy fast action casting rod.

The biggest advantage of this is the the amount of time my lure spends in the strike zone.
If I make a bad cast or I’m just done with my retrieve I can reel in and make another cast way faster with the baitcaster. With heavier rod I can horse in a big carp or straighten out a snagged hook, instead of battling for ten minutes with that carp or breaking off my line or even breaking lighter rod.
Plus, the thump you get from a walleye with braid on a heavier rod is so addicting.
