In far northern MN we are seeing A LOT less deer and A LOT more wolves and wolf sign. This seems to be the general consensus in our neck of the woods…if we have another hard winter I can’t imagine how tough hunting will be for quite a few years down the road.

Did I mention we need to be shooting WOLVES in MN? They hunt them in Montana, which has roughly 1/5 as many wolves statewide as we do. I don’t know how hunting the prey and leaving the predators alone figures into good management techniques

    220# 8-pt. at 10:30am this year, 230# 8-pt. at 1:00pm two yrs. ago. Both were mid-130″ deer.

Well I just purchased my first real bow today. Got the new Hoyt Maxxis 31″. I was completely convinced I was going to get the Afterburner, but it wasn’t even close. The Maxxis feels like an extension of my body and balances in my hand like a dream. Plenty fast, smooth, and very quiet. It’s all dialed in, can’t wait to fling an arrow at a real deer!!

    Thanks big hunter!

Those were very good videos, looks like I need to mash the ends more before I burn ’em.

Just like G said burn the ends, also if you crimp a nocking point above the top knot of the loop it will keep it from creeping

Actually did that…my problem is the knot slips out, even with a burnt ball on the end it eventually pulled through. I tinkered with it tonight for a while and think I got it figured out though.

    Thanks for the input!

My dog hasn’t been eating his Diamond Naturals and seems to be sick of it so I went looking for something else. I just found “Taste of the Wild” dog food today at a local store and am going to try it. Anyone heard of it? Seems like a quality food with good ingredients and a variety of flavors…goes for $42.99 for a 40# bag.

It will look funny but I would look at a nikon monark. I have a 3.5×10-50 that I love. My dad and aunt each bought one after all the research they did. My next scope I get is going to be a nikon monark 6×24-50. Nikon makes a very good product check them out.

I shoot a Tikka .22-250 with a Nikon Monarch 4x16x40 and love it. I shoot Leupold VXIIIs on my other rifles and I would say they are very comparable.

I love my Tikka .22-250, it’s a very hard caliber to beat for predators in my opinion.

    Thanks for the replies.

The stock is synthetic. I have been doing a fair amount of shooting, but I’ve had a less than perfect rest and have been shooting some fairly old shells my buddy gave me to shoot up. I’m going to get some new shells today and go shoot with a gun vise and really pay attention to groups and barrel heat.

    C Hof,
When you talk about contact, was it just one little high spot or a certain point where contact was all around the barrel.

We got a couple of reds hunting over by Crookston where I go to school. One was a big male with a beautiful dark red coat and the other was a female that was pretty blonde. Gorgeous little animals.
