Just dipping my toes in this money pit – you guys ever catch kings in the day light or is it always in the dark ? I wasn’t aware you had to launch at like 2 am to catch em when I tried it . Makes walleye guys look soft .

I haven’t been out of Frontenac in a while . There’s a few small houses out from roschen . I saw a few pickups out from hok si la but know it has a heck of a hump on the wheeler Saturday but doable with a pickup . Not sure about pulling a house as I didn’t see any out there . Also pretty narrow. Hopefully someone has some better info . There was also two out of Pepin not sure where they got on at .

I meant for you to buy the sea star kit, sorry.
Andy, does that set up have tilt steering?? They are known for getting seized up from corrosion once in a while.

Yes it does have a tilt setup. Damn lever was frozen for a long time as well to tilt it .

Amazon off brand kit sucked . Right in the trash it went. Oil everywhere… Unbolted the motor though and it moved nice and freely. Maybe Im bitching about nothing . I would think I would be able to turn the wheel with one finger in the spokes but god dang if you dont damn near need two hands. To be continued.

Going to check for some pinched lines somewhere..

The Mississippi River ones are my favorite . What the hell isn’t in that system ? The barges clean drain dry ? What about all the tuna boats locking up and down ? I’d sure like it though if they kept the Asian carp down south . I’ve seen what they can do on the Missouri and it ain’t pretty .

My buddy had treadwrights on a hunting truck that lasted a surprisingly dang long time. Recaps. Never saw over 80 mph but they lasted with minor use 5-6 years until the truck went to the crusher.

Nice – I have been less than impressed with my strikemaster lite flite this year on the mississippi . The blades are junk . Replacements are sold out about everywhere. Not sure if its a coincidence but I might be going a different direction. 60 dollar blades a year are annoying .

Someone had to make a knock off to the perforated washing machine drum . Why didn’t I think of that ! Ha

Not many regrets in my rear view mirror. But if I could re—do a few things, I would treat a few people better, listen more, hold less grudges, and asked more girls to dance…

Yep – spend more time fishing with grandpa. Spend more time doing what I liked to do instead of trying to fit in playing basketball or running track . Should have spent that time on the water or in the woods .

If there is air in your system your steering will be the exact opposite of what you’re describing. You’d be able to turn the wheel without the motor even moving. Was the fluid coming out of the ram red or clear?

Agree I don’t think it’s air in the line

I kind of agree its also not air – when I had air in the old rig it would be super stiff one way and fly the other way. This is just stiff both ways… Its an easy starting point though. Im going to do what Iowaboy said though and unbolt it quick . Need some propane for the garage and some time to tear into it.

It’s clear . I ran atf in my last system with no issues though . I bought the 32 dollar bottle of sea star fluid for this one though

Call me the odd man out but I have the 13 and it kind of drives me nuts . Lid always freezes down , then it ruins your seal , then it leaks water all over . Aerators always banging around or falling off . Honestly thinking about going back to the metal minnow bucket inside the 5 gallon bucket . For big baits though it is nice .

I’ve owned the boat since October . Steering’s always been stiff on plane on the trailer idling all the same . It’s not un useable just pretty disappointing going backwards on that asset . I would say it’s 50 percent stiffer than what I messed with on cabelas today in their nitro with a 225 .

I had to bleed mine on my new Alumacraft Competitor when I first got it. It did make quite a difference and it was really simple to do.

You buy a kit or just shove some hoses on bleeder fittings ?

Does it turn hard both ways? Because of the torque of the motor it will turn harder to the left under power.

Turns hard either way . This is off with it titled down in the garage . It’s not awful . But it’s worse than my 2004 and the rigs in cabelas today by quite a bit .

Besides air, check for moisture/water in the line. Had similar issue with a lot of equipment that stays outside

Well to add to that – when the garage dipped down way into the negatives one night there was oil seeping out of one of the seals. Not a drop since …

I binged and watched all three last night. That situation was a real messed up one. Some poor decisions got some good men killed that day. The sad part about wars is the number of innocent people who often get killed in the process. There sure was no love lost for the Americans over there. If you ask me it was just another place the US should have just stayed out of. We need to stop wasting Americans life while trying to be the world’s babysitter.

I watched it all tonight and I can’t agree more with the last sentence .

Was a good show to see both sides .

I also wonder if any of the refugees here in the US still have animosity towards Americans because of it .

ISU22 – I used to do that but I’m on the river and always fishing out the back. I pulled the whole works out and put it in a shuttle. I don’t use LS much open water…it’s not real helpful on the river. It’s mainly an ice fishing tool for me now.

I have seen some very impressive wing dam work on the river with livescope . I would love to pitch husky jerks on one with it . Or targeting big pike on p4 . I think it would be nice just to see how some wings lay .

I run Garmin Livescope but as usual there are other considerations to weigh in. Does the xplorer allow networking to your helix so you can see mega live on both screens?

No – and that’s all the reason to go garmin . Bird screwed their fan base over . I have 4 helix units . And the next one will be garmin for this sole reason.

Taking the winter to think about my OP I have another idea…

Why not leave the shuttle on the ground and put the 10 inch screen on a ram mount that goes on my sport track? That is how I have the 2nd screen up front setup. Cord length for power and gls may be an issue?

I was just looking at my shuttle yesterday. The power cords are short so that could be an issue. Garmin makes a bunch of adapters and different cable lengths so they may have something.

Seems like a lot of work…I’d just put the shuttle on the rear seat or deck of there is room. I’m not sure the layout of the Lund but on my Ranger the rear jump seat is perfect. If I wanted to, I could make a mount for the rear deck. Maybe that would be an option versus drilling into the gunnel.

Maybe post some pics of the boat so we can see the gunnel and rear deck.

You have the same boat as I – you leave the shuttle in the jump seat jumping from spot to spot ? I feel like putting it on the fiberglass floor would make it jump around quite a bit as well hitting wakes.. Just curious why you dont scope off the dash unit ? Half the reason I havent jumped to livescope is it seems so inconvenient to me on where to put the shuttle and how to jump spot to spot quickly.

Crowning is a brutal process. Cant help but remind me of the smells of sawzalling a rack or skull plate off a deer.

I’ve always used a medium heavy bass rod. When I’ve used a dedicated 8 foot 6 trolling medium rod seems like there’s 5 lbs on the end of that long rod putting leverage on your wrist all day.

I have fish monkey wool fingerless but have been using strikers neoprene ones right now and have been pretty impressed actually . You’d have to cut off the thumb though to run a bait caster . Best bet is keep your core warm. If you’re moving alot wading you’ll probably be alright with fingerless

Light Flight rocks for clean ice. Unfortunately here on the river we don’t always have clean ice.

I’ve got an old original K drill that I hung on to as a backup/spare. It’s probably 10 years old and I never once sent the blades in to be sharpened. The Light Flight I have is on year 3 and its second set of blades

Ha glad I’m not the only one . I actually bought new drill batteries this week cause I thought my batteries were too old . Dang near buy a k drill for all the blades you’ll have to buy … at least they sharpen them for free allegedly .

I had brand new striker master blades on my lite flight 8 at the beginning of the year . I’ve chewed probably 100 river ice holes and the blades are not doing great . You can visually see all the imperfections in the cutting edge . Anyone ever find a way to get them back right ? 50 bucks a year is getting annoying for blades but I guess if that’s the game that’s the game .

Now the brain trust of IDO will crucify me for catch and release? I remember people jumping on other because they were not practicing catch and release. Is anyone ever happy?
I had a similar conversation with a friend about the law in Wisconsin about what happens when you get your limit. I talked with the Warden I work with and law in Wisconsin and as it is illegal to keep targeting that species once yu have a limit, it is extremely hard for him to present a case for the local D.A. to prosecute as how do you prove you weren’t targeting northern (assuming you have a limit of eyes). That being said, he looks at intent. If you are taking a picture of every walleye, holding it out of the water, measuring, etc. he would make contact with you and push it further (looking for self incrimination). he said if you simply caught another walleye, immediately unhook and threw back he would most likely look the other way. He was certainly more worried about bringing a citation to a D.A. and giving them “proof” or evidence you were targeting the walleyes.

I think the majority of the brain trust is backing C&R.

I agree you should be able to keep fishing after your limit. To me, the only exception is panfish in deep water. I think that’s an area most fisherman know mortality is high.

I don’t think walleye are as susceptible to barotrauma but I’m sure someone will correct mention wrong.

Always wondered on the walleye and sauger barotrauma when someones going to call out certain guides on P4. Im not naming names – but some have problem fishing the 40 foot hole where the cannon feeds into it. Aint no way all those fish live , and they dont keep the 12 inchers either…
