Seaguar Invizx 4lb for eater-size walleye and 6lb. if you’re after bigger ones.
3lb. floro for any panfish setup. I usually use FC Sniper.

I store my rods in an Otter Sportmen’s Case. I can fit 4-6 rods in it. Whatever you buy, just make sure you put them in with no tension on the rods.
I have the exact same setup and use 5lb Suffix Invisiline or 5lb Berkley Professional Grade Flourocarbon.
I have the same rods. I have the PN setup with a Freefall ghost reel, I have mixed feelings about it. The drag is not the greatest, to me it feels like it gets stuck and jumps. When it’s really cold out I’ve had trouble getting line out. I do like that it minimizes the twist of the line, and I would only use an inline in shallower water.
I have the Okuma Ceymar 10 with a carbon drag washer on my precision and bullwhips. The carbon washers make the drag buttery smooth.
I like to use a barrel swivel on my precision from a main line of brain to a florocarbon leader. This helps eliminate line twist.
I have some rods with split grips as well. I asked John at TUCR what would be his favorite setup. He said “38 for sure 8″ handle is my favorite” because “Better handle for bigger baits and fish”, so I went with that. It can also be used for smaller lake trout.
I haven’t used the Maestro much, but I like it for shallow water sight fishing situations.
Good choice with the rod selection. The commander with the straight grip is a walleye slaying machine. The straight grip allows you to have more leverage on the fish and more control of the lure. I have 10 of their rods. From the Maestro up to the Commander.
Precision- I have two of them. I have a 36″ precision setup with 5lb. Suffix invisiline, and a 32″ with 6lb braid to barrel swivel with a floro leader for using inside the shack. I like using 1/8 flutter spoons (Slender Spoons, Pk Flutterfish, VMC Tingler Spoons) #3 jiggin raps, and 1/8 rattle spoons.
Commander- I have it setup with 8lb. braid, barrel swivel, and floro leader on it. I use it for 1/8-3/8 lures. Plan on using larger jigging raps, and ripping raps on it as well.
I have the set up you are thinking of with the Clam Plate etc. I use a KDrill and I love it. Being an Iowa guy I don’t fish many places that I can drive on so I am always pulling my stuff and that means the LIGHTWEIGHT of this set up is very important. Like others said, since you already have the Clam Plate and auger, go with the drill set up. You can always use the drill in the off season.
I have the same setup and agree 100%.
I use 28″-32″ rods inside my Otter XT Cabin which is comparable to the Yukon. I think it’s a little taller than the Otter Pro Cabin, and I don’t have any problems hitting the tent.
The snitch by 13 fishing. Such a nice <em class=”ido-tag-em”>panfish rod, and not too hefty of a price tag either. TUCRS are pretty much top of the line, but that’s a lot more money. And since these little panfish rods are so easy to break, I wouldn’t want to risk losing that much money.
They’re not as easy to break as you think. I’ve landed largemouth well over 4lbs. on my Precision Noodle. As long as you store your rods properly, without a load on them, they’ll be good.
Obviously you’re misinformed, you can do the same thing at TUCR.

I have two precisions, 32″ and a 36″. I use the 32″ inside my shack and the 36″ when hole hopping. The precision is very sensitive and well balanced. I would also recommend looking at the Fusion or the Quicktip. Pending on where you live, you could stop at their shop and take a look.
If fishing for mainly walleye, I’d go with the Precision, and if you’re fishing mainly crappie I’d go with the Fusion or QuickTip.
We will be ice fishing. We arrive on Friday. According to weather.com, suppose to be around 30 Saturday and Sunday, unlike the temps of 2 from where I’m from in northeast Iowa.
Any fishing information would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
I use braid when it’s nice outside, fishing deep water or fishing in the shack because it tends to freeze up faster. Usually run 6lb braid to barrel swivel to a
6 lb. floro leader. If I’m fishing outside and its cold out, 6lb mono for main line with same setup as above.
I have the same setup. I talked to John at TUCR, he recommends using mono, and not braid, because braid does freeze up fairly easy, and makes noise on the guides. I went with Suffix Ice Magic Orange 4lb. and then use a barrel swivel and connect a 4lb. fluorocarbon leader.
I have both the Shimano Sienna and the Okuma Ceymar 10. First thing I recommend, as mentioned above, is to take the reel apart and clean out the factory grease. Then get some Quantum Hot Sauce to use on the reel. Second, I would update the felt washers to carbon washers. This allows the drag to be smoother, and your drag to be more sensitive. (more settings)
I have two Bullwhips, one is spooled with 3lb. Suffix Ice Magic, and the other 3lb. PLine Floro ICe. I haven’t noticed much of difference between the two. I have landed some nice bass (up to 4 lbs.) and northern on the Bullwhip. It has a sensitive tip, but a strong backbone to help land that occasional surprise. I don’t fish walleye very much, it’s not very accessible through the ice in Northeast Iowa, but I’ve heard of people using their Bullwhips for eater-sized walleye as well.
Here is my thoughts on this topic. People are always going to complain about rules and regulations. Decisions need to be made in favor of protecting and maintaining our resources. With input from anglers and the DNR, there needs to be a middle ground where each side gives a little on making a decision. (which in today’s world is hard) We are caught up on living in a world where we want immediate satisfaction, and tend to forgot up our future resources.
I think we should lower the limit to 10 bluegill, crappie, or perch, but in any combination, without exceeding 10 or more of the same species, keep 25 panfish per day.
Just my thoughts.
I think the site is very easy to navigate. The only thing I noticed, is that I didn’t see any stocking caps for sale, but that might not be on your end. Now, if you could get my wife to go on the website and order me something, that would be greatly appreciated.
I like my Shimano Siennas. I would put in a carbon washer in for the felt drag washer. Night and day difference, and very smooth. You can find them online, or I get mine through TUCR for about $5/carbon washer.
Hooked Up Guide Service. Josh is a great guy, and will work his tail off to put you on the fish. The other guides around the area, can’t keep up with him.

Check with IceHunters.net, they have good deals going on usually.
I believe it’s $5 per reel. So $30 for 6 reels, unless the price has changed since last year.
I’m pretty sure in an episode of IDO, I’ve seen James using the bullwhip in South Dakota.
I think it was this episode.
I use 3lb. Pline FloroIce on my Bullwhip, with a Shimano Sienna 500.
I am going to try Pline Floroice this year. I’ve heard good things about it, and my friend swears by it. 3 lb. for panfish and 5 lb. for eyes. I was using Berkley MicroIce before, and didn’t have any complaints about that.
