They are sending me a new charger but I may also order a backup in case this happens again. frown

Noticed the light was green when I plugged it in and thought it was unusual. It charged the battery but then the next time I plugged in the charger I had no light and it wouldn’t charge the unit.

They are no longer being sold through RAPALA as of January 1, 2020. They have there own website up and running though.

I’m with Collin, long time user of Helix’s but switched to the Echomap 73cv and love it! Nothing wrong at all with the Helix just a preference reallly. Garmin comes with good mapping already installed and I love the touch screen.

I would be interested to see how the Lite-Flight does with a drill up to 9″-12″ of ice. I have a 40V and was thinking about buying a Lite-Flight for it, if I could use a drill early season on the 8″ Lite-Flight that would be great!

I looked seriously at the Helix 5 & 7 this last fall as Humminbird is what I have always had. I never found a 5 in the G2 series for whatever reason. With that said they are both good units, I thought the 5 was a bit small but the 7 a bit big. I would be mounting it on a Marcum Shuttle as well. In the end I went with a Garmin Echomap 73CV and could not be happier! If your interested I can explain in more detail but the touchscreen is amazing.

I hardwired the included power cable from my Garmin and discarded the Marcum power cable. I did have to relocate the power port to the side of the Shuttle as the Garmin bracket was in the way.

I agree with you about the 7″ B-Man. I think it would be a good all around unit for a drill with early ice and my 40V head late season. I want the weight savings for sure!

I have had the old red Strikemaster bibs & loved them but them bought the Striker Ice Predator bib & jacket. I really like the Predator and I was also able to add extra padding in the knees.

My buddy just tried mounting a Helix 10 and said no way! He bought a Helix 7 for ice fishing.

It’s a Garmin Echomap 73cv and it just fits but you have to relocate the charge port. I had a 1″ Ram mount that worked for the camera.

I just bought a predator jacket and had the same issue. It has the double zipper pull and that seems to be the issue. No amount of lube will fix it as it is an alignment issue.
My fix: Grab the upper pull and make sure it is set into the lower pull, then put your pointer finger below the pulls and insert the left side zipper until you feel it on you r finger tip at the bottom of the pulls. Then it slides right up no problem. I know this sounds convoluted but it works for me and now I don’t even think about it.
It’s like starting up an old CR250 (half kick half kick 3 pumps on the throttle full kick full kick fires right up!)

I had every intention of purchasing a Helix 7 but decided to look at the Garmin prior to my purchase. Both are great units but on Tuesday I ordered the Garmin 73cv. It will come down to personal preference and for me it was the touch screen, ability to add Panoptix, a pretty good built in map and I just liked using the Garmin better.
I bought the summer unit as I am mounting it on a Marcum Shuttle but I still have to buy an ice ducer.
Either way you will be happy

B-Man, I was thinking I would go with the (GT8HW-IF). Because it has a 24-16 degree cone angle and I fish mainly under 40 feet of water. The (GT10HN-IF) has a 8-16 degree cone angle. But, I could be thinking very wrong with that idea! LOL

Agreed Luttes, I just purchased the Garmin Echomap 73cv, they have two ice ducer with two cone angle ranges. I was trying to figure out the depth I typically fish in and what cone angles would best work for my needs. This just helped me visualize it.

So I just ordered a Garmin ECHOmap 73cv and will need to order an ice ducer for it. It looks to me like the 16 Degree cone is used most? I very rarely fish over 50′ of water ice fishing so thinking the 16-24 cone would be a good choice?
On a separate note has anyone mounted a 7″ Echomap to a Marcum Shuttle?

I fish out of a kayak in the summer and haven’t used my fish finder like I thought I would (fly fishing more). So for me it a winter gadget but I really want a mapping. Nothing wrong with the Garmin at all but I like the Bird for myself. I will pick something up in the next week or two!….Just don’t know what yet.

They are trying to get people to come back to the RT-9 with a big savings. I have been looking at the Helix 7-G3 GPS unit. At a price of $500 plus $100 for the ice ducer, $125 for map software then another $250 for a Marcum Shuttle. That $700 price tag caught my eye for sure! If it works it would be worth every penny at $700, if it is yet another failure it will be the end for Marcums credibility.

I like your setup using the Marcum arm for your camera. I think I may use that idea on my new setup!

I picked up a 1/4″ thick yoga mat at Wal-Mart last night for $15 and cut out new pads. I was impressed that the front facing material in the pocket for the knee pad was made of a heavy plastic. I would compare it to the material you see in the bottom of an inflatable pool.

I had used the Frabill hard case for years and just bought the Eagle Claw this year. Fits my inline reels and additional gear.

I think so, though I did just buy it. I may look for the WI-Fi hotspot Aqua-Vu sells. It creates a wi-fi signal that I will then be able to use my tablet as monitor. That will give me a 12″ screen.

That’s the kind of deal I was looking for, though yours is the “Ice Pack”.
I am looking for the summer unit that sells for $499.99 with an open water transducer. Then I would purchase an ice ducer for $99.99 and would put me at $600 regular price.
