I discovered my original 5-amp batteries were bad first trip out this winter. Got 4 seasons out of them. Last trip out last year, I ran them pretty hard overheated both. Didn’t think much of it, recharged them when I got home. Topped them off over the summer. First trip out this year pistol bit would turn but no power, like the battery was going dead but it showed full power. Swapped battery out, same thing with battery two. Barely got 3 holes in 5 inches of ice. Tried a buddies brand new 6-amp battery and it was fine. Bought 2 new 6-amp batteries had have probably ripped 1000 holes this season, no problem. Batteries go bad.

I bungee a small hub to my sled when the slush is too bad. Nothing worse than burying a sled. Oh wait, yeah there is…burying a sled and then having to go back to drag your flip shack out once you get your sled extracted.

I’ve been thinking about doing something similar with either the otter monster box or a Kolpin Outfitter box. I was thinking getting a piece of marine plywood and mounting it over my existing rack with u bolts long enough to mount the piece of plywood, with the box on top if it, to the rack. As far as auger, depending on the weight I’d consider the auger tube with the otter or was thinking maybe a Jaws of Ice carrier could be mounted to the top of the box?
