This early in the year the campsites will be cleaner. Sloppy campers are the main reason bears area problems. I had my tent ripped into once years ago in Lost Bay during an afternoon nap. No harm (but the tent) but freaked out an old girlfriend. The next day there was one on a houseboat nearby and ripped off screen door. Ranger came by and said all campsites in the area were closing. Use common sense as always. Good info above and have a good trip!

Check rivets X2. A friend of mine put a few inches of water in boat then put on trailer and then saw where the water was coming from. Good luck
November 19, 2019 at 1:24 pm #1891984Muzzy any day over slug gun. It’s like a single shot rifle for me.
November 19, 2019 at 1:07 pm #1891976MSG you can do without. Some companies offer celery juice and celery powder as a natural preservative to eliminate sodium nitrates. I have not but I will when I use up my current supplies.
June 10, 2019 at 1:00 pm #1861440That old chimney on Stagies point was my dad’s cabin. We had it from late 50’s to 1985 when the park kicked us out. It sat another 10 years there and then they burned it down. Kinda bittersweet to say the least. The back bay had a 40 ft dock that dad had John Salmi and his brother I believe built. Lots of vacation memories growing up on Kabby and the cabin.
December 27, 2018 at 1:45 pm #1820963Depending on the time of year I like camping out of the wind most of the time-so east side of islands and protected coves. Wind in the park can be a real issue esp with smaller craft, your boat can take a beating if your not careful. There are unmarked reefs and rocks so be wary at all times. A screen gazebo is a must for me. Also good to have also extra tarps, good rain gear and a radio for weather if phone does not work and a good map.
October 31, 2018 at 3:52 pm #1806982One at Fleet Farm, think it’s Hunter’s Speciality. I’ve tried several kinds and all seems to work. A little bit on your rubber boot toe and heel. I swear by it.
October 31, 2018 at 1:12 pm #1806946Fox urine cover scent.Very good luck with it. Deer ( and cows)actually have followed my trail right to my tree several times. Curiosity scent?
September 19, 2018 at 12:42 pm #1798397They do charters out of Gils Rock and Bailey’s Harbor I know. Personally I have not. More numerous ones at Algoma, Sheboygan, Port Washington areas. Been to these.
January 7, 2018 at 3:41 pm #1742014I use the Leopold quick detach mount on my Omega. You can take scope off/on and it’s always dead on. This is handy for cleaning and when you can’t use it(rules).
November 14, 2017 at 12:28 pm #1727958I hunted 347 very near 603 and saw plenty of deer. Corn would be my guess sad far as not seeing the numbers. I totally agree with Grouse. DNR knows more handsome you think.
June 26, 2017 at 12:47 pm #1700970Good rain gear, rubber knee boots. Double line all clothes and sleep bag.
June 8, 2017 at 12:45 pm #1698207I ended up in Port Washington with Harbor City Charters. Very good fishing.

November 26, 2016 at 2:06 pm #1652670I recently bought some from FleetFarm can’t wait to try it.Very reasonable. The best jerky seasoning I have found is High Mountain original blend.
March 15, 2016 at 2:47 pm #1606938Thank you all again.Good info! The VNP site is helpful and it gives me an idea on what’s popular too as far as availability. The stone chimney on Stagles pt,West Sphunge Island was our cabin on Kabby.I remember catching a small mouth off the dock in late 70’s and my dad didn’t believe me! They were not around at all back then.

Then why respond to the thread at all???? Because I want to discourage others from giving away their favorites, which also might be my favorites. And because I have as much right to respond to a post as you do.. So you want others to be”selfish” like you?? We’re talking campsites here.lol I won’t ask for fishing spots or your favorite launch or resort cause I would hate to ruin your day…
March 9, 2016 at 7:22 am #1605337Thanks all, good info. Sorry Ron,thanks for being honest lol. I have not camped in VNP in 8 yrs, went to a resort the last couple times- 4yrs ago. I won’t be going there a lot but like to revisit occasionally.
March 7, 2016 at 3:55 pm #1604968No time period as of yet.I am open to all areas. Wife and I to small group.
Family had a cabin on Kabetogama, have lots of memories and so I like to revisit the area and easier on the wife than BWCA.March 7, 2016 at 10:29 am #1604857I thought maybe people would hold out, perhaps a gps coord. to sway you??
Just kidding. Yes sand and protection from the westerly winds is a high priority for me. I heard N69 was cursed???? LOLMarch 3, 2016 at 12:30 pm #1604036The first thing you have to do is figure out kinda when you want to go and securing your permit. A lot of entry points/dates are already taken. The Ely area is a good starting point with lots of options. For first timers it would not be a bad idea to talk to an outfitter ahead of time and explain what you want to do, they can give you a game plan/ideas/shuttle info etc. and also have an inside lane on permits and help you get one. Use as much of your own gear as possible to save money or if your outfitted you will kinda know what to buy/borrow if you decide this is for you. After you are more seasoned you will want to apply for permits yourself the first day you are allowed to. I know North Country Outfitters in Ely is a good outfitter and we pick up our permits there. There are many good outfitters in Ely,call around for info.
Good luck!
