Spent 4 years in D Town myself for school and lived off campus for 2 in two different places. Overall safe town in my opinion. I did have a friend (female) who had someone break into their place one night, so stuff does happen. A lot of rentals have crap doors and windows and crime opportunists know this. Make sure everything can be secured from the outside and an internal door lock for her room sounds great. She will never be 100% safe, but a little extra protection is worth the peace of mind. Mace is great. A solid old golf club would work too. My friend and her female roommate scared the guy out by screaming like crazy and having a bat. Sorry your daughter and you guys got scared, I cant imagine the feeling. As far as the big house with so many people, there is something to be said about safety in numbers, but I understand others points.

I came from a heated attached garage to an unheated detached garage (I know, I know, WTH)… heat that thing now and don’t look back!

If this keeps up all winter, the sleds will get plenty of miles!

I have been responsible for the turkey since my first pellet grill one 6-7 years ago. Brine 24 hours. Brine: 2 gallons of water, 2 cups salt, 1 cup sugar, fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, sage) few garlic cloves crushed, allspice, black pepper. You can add or subtract what you want as long as you have a salt/sugar base you should be fine. Rinse completely and dry. Add herb based rub and then 325 on pellet grill for approximately 12 mins per pound. 11.5 pound bird cooked in just over 2 hours this year. Haven’t tried the spatchcock method yet, but I am curious if the result would be the same.

Mallards in Forest Lake (Closest town) is a good spot for a bite. Great bloody Mary.

My recoil broke last year and I have yet to fix it. I hope the electric start continues to perform well. Odd problem I know, but the thing always started in 1 or 2 pulls so I never used the started until now…

7-8 minimum for me to consider. I always am more cautious however. I was named after my dad’s best friend who went through ice on a snowmobile. One thin or slushy spot is all it takes.

Great deals on various models right now for Cyber Monday. I saw some Gooloo ones on Amazon for 40+% off.

Access is the way to go for a soft, roll up style. Be careful with the hard flip up ones. They sit lower in the box. A cooler barely would fit under the one that came on my truck. No way my portable fish house would have fit. I switched to the Access, no complaints.

Heck of a story. This and others like it from parents and grandparents should be a warning. I grew up knowing this stuff and was always told to be careful and keep essentials in the vehicle. But, being young and dumb that was not always the case. Ended up buried in a snow drift in central ND with a friend one time. No cell service, minimal food and water, some beer, and miles from anything resembling a town. Dug for hours and could not make enough progress to free the high sided truck. Walked close to a mile to a vacant farmstead and borrowed some grain shovels. Still couldn’t get free. Nearing midnight at this point and the outlook was glim, likely going to be spending the night and going for a heck of a walk in the morning. A passing vehicle (no reason to be out there other than they took a different route) noticed our head lamps and the saint of a man trekked out to check on us. Ended up giving us a ride to closest bar where we found a man that had a plow truck. We were freed and went home after paying the man. Storm blew in that night (blizzard conditions) which could have made matters much worse. We were near mild danger I would say, but close enough to make me think twice about the gear and provision I carry in the winter.

This sucks, plain and simple. I have a neighbor who thinks pheasant limits are recommendations on his land. I say something every time he makes a comment, and I can see my words go in one ear and out the other. What drives me nuts is the guys who do this always talk about it in a manner that is bragging. Like it is cool or something. When you call them on it, you are lame, or a government stooge. Most of the people I know who are guilty are raising young kids too which makes me think this behavior will just be passed down like other bad traits. Sad…

Been happy with my 2018 w/ 2.7 Eco. I don’t pull much but when I do, it is no issue. I previously had a 2012 w/ 5.0 and would say the 2.7 is easily the same if not better. 10 speed transmission makes a huge difference. My dad runs a GM 6.2 in 1/2 ton and I can pull anything he does and get better milage doing it. 3.5 would be a great option for you.

I have always used a towel for doors. Ice is hard on seals and handles, especially when a kid is trying to enter the vehicle!

Never heard any of the negative before, but regardless, definitely one of the best YouTube channels out there for information and tactics. Packs a lot of detail into quick videos. I like the seasonality of his videos as well. Basically walks you through his season with plenty of tips and tricks along the way.

I was started on a old Honda something or other. Was a manual without a clutch i believe. Couldnt have been more than a couple hundered CC. Not too big, too fast for a started machine. Bullet proof for abuse from kids. I would recommend something like that. Old Honda Foreman or old Polaris trail boss or something. Even an old sportsman wouldn’t be too bad. Just teach them their limits. Good luck and have fun!

Flynn’s Series is great and Mills has done well with the last few. If you like that series and need something new to get into, Check out the Scot Harvath series by Brad Thor.

I have been happy with my Scheels gear as well. Had it for 5 or so years now. My butt will now get wet if sitting on a soaked chair, but that is it. Uninsulated, but enough room to layer underneath. Work great when warm as well. Wear them more when it is not raining as a wind block and splash guard running my tiller.

If i had to buy over again, I’d end up in another mid priced range set again. Nothing much for me to be gained by going up in price for the amount I encounter rain.

I have been very happy with my smartwool 150 and 250 baselayers. Great for active wear tasks as they regulate heat better than anything else ive ever used. Also great for layerinig over for cold sits. This year for opener my set up was merino 250 base layers, the cabelas polartec fuzzy things and then my outer wear. I added a vest on top. Perfectly comfortable. I had been using UA coldgear prior and will never go back.

A couple of family members have Hulu Plus and they are happy with it. The on demand features are nice.

Thanks for the input guys. I would agree that I am overthinking it, but can you blame me for wanting to boat shop! Just in terms of cleaning and such, I think it would be easier long term. The boat is now shared by my family members when they are up there, and we have different standards when it comes to a clean boat. Also does not get used as much as it should overall, so just throwing around the idea of selling while it is still in excellent shape and picking up a outfitter or something similar which would handle all fishing needs for the lake. Best of luck fall fishing and hunting to everyone!
