Glad I didn’t try measuring that night. John just called little over 30″ 12lbs.

I just really wanted to release it and figured I could have gotten all the pictures and measurements if they would have been open.

Take a measurement of the length from tip of the tail to tip of the mouth. Take a measurement of the girth (around the fish at the largest point).

Most people don’t carry a flexible tape measure with them but there is a way to do it using fishing line.
    A. Stretch a piece from head to tail and cut it at exact point.
    B. Wrap a piece around the fish at largest point and cut where they intersect.
Save pieces until you get use of a tape measure and measure the two pieces to get length x girth. A good quality picture is also very important.

Measuring in the boat was out of the question. I never though about using line though. Keep in mind it was dark, I had a 1/2″ of snow in the boat and frozen fingers. I’m going to have to get a fabric tape for the boat, and a scale. I spent like 10 minutes with it in the net in the water debating what to do. Keeping it was the only option of getting anything close to what the actual size was.

Johns it is, close to home checked out his stuff looks great. Can’t wait to get it back. Thanks for all the input. Extra thanks to RRR for helping me keep the truck out of the river on that ramp.

8:20maybe. Just seems dead there all the time and in the past it seemed like there was always someone around. I’m not pissed or anything. I just really wanted to release it and figured I could have gotten all the pictures and measurements if they would have been open. After the wisconsin channel launch last night they are the best bet for launching right now. Wow that baby drops off quick, the back of the boat goes under while loading. Came over my splashwell. Good job to whoever is salting and sanding there though. It was ice free even during the snow last night.

Yes, PB. I knew if I put my time in down there it would eventually give me a big one. It’s not the 14lber I was hoping for but still a monster pre spawner. I haven’t weighed it yet, no scale but it was 29.75″. Now I need to get the high water period figured out! I get my butt kicked when it’s flooded….. Wish I could have released it and got a replica made but in the dark and snowing good pictures and measurements were out of the question. Should have kicked the door in at everts… Is there never anyone there anymore?

I was showing temps in p3 any where from 37-43 yesterday. We also searched for a pig and came up empty handed. I didn’t venture too far into backwaters though. I heard someone plugged a 10lb+ vertical jigging, guess I should have grinded it out up there.

2nd on Lacannes, stay away from Dans. Bought my boat at dans, worst experience ever. The rigging was worse than the experience.

If you like the BFG A/T take a look at the General Grabber AT2 I just put them on my truck. They look almost identical to the BFGs for hundreds less. According to the Discount tire guy they are more off road capable, do too a more self cleaning tread pattern. Noisy though but so are the BFGs. Only a few hundred miles on them so far but overall happy with them. White letters in unless your rockin a 70s muscle car.

Im going to go with the jig/plastic bite when dragging. Trolling style hit on a spinning rod. Makes me jump every time! Casting same combo on the river a very close second. Ice would be when you can see the hit comming on the flasher. Nothing like one red line closing in on another!

I take mine out of the boat and stick it on a old genz vexilar pack that I had. Like some one else said, I had an extra power cord for a boat. I cut it shorter and ran it to a 12v flasher battery. I use it in the truck while ice fishing. Its nice too if you fish a lake in the summer you can mark way points on all the structure you find open water and have them when it all freezes up. I find it alot nicer to look at a 7″ screen when looking for something specific than a little 3″ screen on the handheld. I have a HDS7 has any one tried the ice tranducer with one of these? I tried it in flasher mode with the boat one but I couldnt make heads from tails in what I was seeing. The Vexi is much better but I wouldnt mind having a extra flasher for other people. Although its a expensive piece of equipment to have bouncing around in a shack.

Any one tried split rings on them instead of split trebles? I loose them fast enough I shouldnt even be thinking about trying to make them more expensive. Down about 50 of them learning to work seams last year!

Any one ever use a camera down there? I did last year. Really wonder why they dont like what I was offering up. I could only see a few feet too. Its hard for me to judge size off the camera but I saw a bunch of fish. Sounds like if its flowing really good most likely cant see an inch though.

Truck drives straight into the ditch. I think you need to drive a new truck, your too use to swinging your arms like your dancing while your driving. Ive driven a lot of Dodge trucks some with as little as 40k on them and if they have 4 wheel drive you have to do a little dancing to keep them in a lane. Its gets much worse with the heavy duty trucks too. But the Diesel and the Hemi cant be beat! And Im a Ford guy. I was towing a 15,000lb load with my Dodge work truck on Monday and im still amazed with the Diesel and the Turbo brake. Sorry to hear about the Transmission problems. I would think the dealship that overfilled it could be held responsible for the problem. Why would something break because you changed the fluid? I would raise a stink about it regardless if the overfill caused it or not. If they cant hire people compentent enough to correctly fill a transmission they deserve to pay for some damages.

I 2nd the steer clear of Artic Cat I had a 06′ 750 that was the biggest hunk of crap ever buit. A 16′ ice castle will drop the indpendent rear to the ground. And they are huge its like taking a semi down the trails. I think if you in the 500 market and are looking for something that will take serious abuse look at the Honda foreman. They dont trail ride too well due to the solid rear axel and you have to shift but they last forever. And can haul a 16′ Ice Castle no problem. I think Artic Cat sleds are some of the best on the trails but they went way way wrong with the ATV/UTV.

Why? I realize some lucky guys do this for a career, but if you cant to it the right way why do it at all? And 2oz sinkers are not small what was this guy thinking?

We have a few 2 wheel drive gators for moving materials around job sites. They are beyond tough. I dont think they have the attachments that you can get for the Bobcat brand UTVs. Ive even seen some with a skid steer bucket on them. Might be good for a farm for feed or something but doubtfull that you could grade, dig or lift with it. With a cab kit it would be great for snow plowing small areas. I dont think the work style UTVs have a fast enough top speed for play. I know the Gators we have maybe do 20mph.

I had a non chiped 06 durmax for a work truck until recently. I put around 30k miles on it last year. Was a good truck I would get around 18mpg with no trailer and 13-14 with a 4,000 lb trailer according to the trucks MPG info center. Thats an all around average of all driving situations summer and winter. Great truck unless towing extremely heavy loads 8,000lb+. I heard that the particulate filter on the newer trucks is what is causing some of the mpg issues. I also noticed that the new Ford diesel has an exhaust fluid? The salesman said that the fluid cleans the filter instead of using diesel to obtain better milage. Anyone else hear anything about this? I now have a Dodge diesel truck sucks except for the motor, the turbo brake is sweet. I wish it was a new power stroke.

Im more of a open water guy for walleyes and I usually ice fish for crappies. Ive never even seen either lake with the exception of google earth. Im just excited the inlaws are keeping fishing in mind when looking for a place. Sounds like the chip is a little more what id be looking for. Are both of these lakes in the no trolling area? That rule sucks!

x3 Went out with my neighbor today to check out his new HB with SI. Worked great but only a few shorts for the few hours we were out. I guess Im not sure if I fully understand the SI yet but looked like all the fish we saw were out deeper like 17+fow. Saw some trees and looked at a few rock piles so I think we were reading it correctly. We could also see the weeds in covil channel. I need structure scan in my boat. Why did they have to make the upgrade so expensive! Paid over a grand for the unit and SC is another 500+….

I hope its real. That spot is a little weird looking though. Wow if its true. Even if he is holding his arms away that thing is still a tank. I went down and watched them pull the nets in one time. It was wild a bunch of large game fish. But nothing of that size.
