If my memory servers me correctly, we used to get good sized ones while trolling beetle spins with the electric. Once you locate them just keep trolling through them or anchor up and cast minnows to them. I would also fish the shoreline areas with deeper water and snags around them. The gills are everywhere especially in the weed beds which you will find plenty of! Be sure and call the bait shops in the area too they will help you narrow down your search and just ask the anglers around the camp and fish house and you should be able to get an idea for techniques and locations. Bring lots of bug spray! Deer flys and skeeters are bound to wreak some havoc this time of year up in the north woods. Seems like are best spot was right out in front of the lodge and boat docks on the side where the boat launch is. Trolling beetle spins in that location produced good numbers and sizes of both crappies and big gills. But I havent been there in years.

I would second the suggestion of Marsh Miller Lake. I used to vacation their with friends and family and it is a good largemouth lake. Also their is a lake north of their somewhere called Lake Chetek or Lake Chetak(cant remember which) and it is not part of the Chetek chain of lakes oddly enough. This was a very good largemouth lake also.

I figured that it was going to take off by the time this PWT event came around. Their should be some good weights coming in. I’ll be watching close to see how DeeZee and Naig do. Im not sure if any other EFN’ers are fishing it or not. Id like to get over their again soon to fish the Reefs on the West Side of the lake.

What is the general water temp over their right now? Are they still getting fish on the lower end of the Fox or has that also died down? Also…what do you know about the technique they call “jerking flies” I tried this and was not successful but alot of locals swear by it. Tews on main st. has these little streamer flies they like to run off of three way rigs and snap trolling them on the fox river supposedly takes alot of fish. Any word on the cane bite?

    Sorry for all the questions!

Jason…maybe you could bring it to the EFN Get Together and we could take it for a spin out on Lake Pepin!!

    That is one impressive rig!

Well…the ratings were introduced with this version and Ive had mixed emotions on it. It also included a way to rate users but we decided that was a bit too personal so it got smoked. However, I did leave the rating of threads in because I thought it seemed fairly harmless. If we get to a situation where ratings of threads are putting people off we can drop it from the system. For example at present, anonymous users can rate posts. So anyone can come in and rate a thread. Generally if someone gives a thread one star its pretty much an insult in my book so that is something we will have our eyes on. As Jon said you can rate threads simply by choosing from the drop down box at the bottom of the page while viewing a thread.

Be sure and check out the new stylesheets that were added alot of the newer ones are MUCH easier on the eyes and with more suttle colors. You can set your stylesheet by going to your my home page and clicking display preferences at the bottom.

    Leinie,

Their is a handout that James has. Send him an email and he will send some to you. They are very nice looking and have both addresses and the efn logo. I will be taking a bunch of these over to Winnebago. We need to start a grass roots campaign to get WI going.

    Thanks Jenn,

I might run over their on Sunday and fish near Winneconne and fish around Poygan and Winneconne. I figure that would be a good place to start. Im not sure if those fish have spawned yet or not but Im curious. Im mostly interested in fishing the areas on Lake Poygan. This early in the year Im wondering what techniques are good. Im wondering when the trolling bite gets going. I appreciate all the the help.

I think I was their once. My folks took us kids their once but I was too young to have a clue. I know they talked about how they used to go their years back and fished their several times because of the outstanding walleye action.

I was testing under the admin account and I set the overall default style to misty. That certainly wasnt the intention! I set the default back to ftl1. I also added these 4 styles on FTR but everything seems ok over their. Its nice to be able to change the look to the one you want so youre not forced to look at something that in ones own opinion, would make a billy goat puke!

    Bill,

What new look were you referring too? I added some stylesheets that an individual can pick in their display prefs but thats about it. Perhaps that is what you are referring to.

    Im curious.

Ok. I added it under Wisconsin Lakes. Since we already have Erie talk going on in Ohio I wasnt sure if I wanted to start out a Great Lakes forum or not. So I just did that. Hope its ok.

I was thinking of just putting it in the Wisconsin Lakes area but Im not sure what to do now.

Sweet. Sounds like we got some regulars. EFN Pro-Staffer Chris Beeksma guides on Chequamegon so this could be great for him as well. My folks used to drag my brother and I to Superior to fish for walleyes.

    Hi Smitty!

I would love to setup a forum for Lake Superior, do you think we can get a handful of people that will exchange with you. If you can bring in a couple buddies to FTL that want this also, I will set it up for you! Just let me know.

Since most of us are West of Erie, it would be awesome to charter a couple buses and head that way! Or just have a convoy head that way. Sort of like Canon ball run!

Dustin, sounds like a road trip!

I spoke with Pete at Red Wing just before they announced him the winner of that tournament back in 99. He sat their and talked with me for a minute or two and then walked up and collected his 50 grand. I have much admiration and respect for Pete Harsh.
