You can also just use planner boards with spending too much!! Thats how I started fishing the big pond, I just used those clip on planner boards with stick baits and caught fish around Two Harbors when water temps get into 40’s it can be good around there!! And I agree with above statements too, depends on how much you want to spend and do with boat??

March 13, 2006 at 4:17 pm #429484when i first started fishing the big lake I started out in a 1650 explorer. My brother made me stainless steel moutning bar, worked great, and also had rod holer on it too. I used the cannon maunal downriggers, and mounted them on the edge of bar and got the telescope type so i could adjust the arm to fit the boat and with swivel mounts too!! I mounted it to the raised deck in the back of boat and that way i could remove easliy also. They might make something out ther to to fit boat. Not usre if this helps you out or not?
March 12, 2006 at 7:44 pm #429238Thats what me and the wife want to do too, when kids get older!! I think be great to live on boat year round, and no yard work either!!!!

March 9, 2006 at 3:22 pm #428226I got 4 of these reels, and use for lake trout trolling on lake Superior, they are ok, had one had problems with, but sent it back and they sent me out a new one, since then no problems, but I will be upgrading to Daiwia reels in future. But all in all they are not bad!

Sunday went out of Superior entry, went out 10 miles and started, caught one laker and missed another, well had to the baot about 10 feet behind and got off!! Caught in about 80 feet of water both one was right on bottom line linning and other about 50 feet down.

March 21, 2005 at 12:27 pm #351148This will be my 3rd year fishing the big lake. By no means makes me a expert on the lake, but I really enjoy it alot. I fish it every weekend druing the summer that I can. I have only fished lake Michigan one time, but sure same fishing lures, speeds, etc are the same. Temp. is probably only thing really different between the two lakes, being the lake Superior doesnt get as warm as Michigan. I have fished Superior from the harbor to Two Harbors and done good both places. Depending on which way wind is from tells me where to fish that day. By the port of Superior you can catch cocho, walleye, lake trout, right by the breaker way in the spring, later in year go out from there about 10 miles look for the mud line and we catch nice lakers there too. Two Harbors we have caught laker and coho from just surface fishing to downriggering, again depending on temps. So I would tell him its very much the same as fishing lake Michigan, might not be as big of fish just becasue water temps cooler, but sure is closer!! Good luck
