I had a V167T for a few years. It was a nice boat and cost less than the offerings from other brands.
We have a 2017 570 2-up at the cabin. It rides great on the trails, has a lot of power and pushes snow great.
It’s been plagued with electrical gremlins. Replacing the ignition switch fixed the display so it quit flashing and going dark intermittently. If it’s cold out, the power steering quits working, the winch loses power and sometimes the fuel pump loses power. I have taken the front cover off to access the relays more times than I can count. We have replaced the relays and it’s been to the dealer, but the issues still come and go. Another guy on the lake had similar issues and finally traded on a Yamaha.
I had a RZR 900 that never gave me any problems, but this 570 has been a nightmare.
This place was reasonably priced and very nice when we went a few years ago. The best breakfast I’ve ever had as well. https://www.normarkefarmbnb.com/
.
We rode around Nemo and Hill City. It was fun searching for caves in the area while out riding. I highly recommend a good GPS with the trails loaded.
I believe certain years of the Opti were better than others. I would get on some engine/boating forums and dig into whether there are specific things to consider/look into on the motor.
40, 50 & 60hp are made in China.
2.5 – 30hp are made in Japan by Tohatsu.
75hp+ Merc built in USA
I had a 2015 Nissan 15hp and it was a Tohatsu with different decals. At that time, they also made all motors 30hp and lower for Mercury. I know Merc has different handles/shifter mechanisms on some of the new models when compared to Tohatsu. Tohatsu is less known in some areas, but I couldn’t find anyone with bad things to say when I researched buying Merc/Tohatsu/Nissan. If the Merc on your new Lund is essentially a Tohatsu, I would consider that a good thing and not think twice about it.
Congrats! I’m sure you’ll love it. Not much better than a new boat!
As a few others have mentioned, the Moto G7 Power battery life is great. I recharge every 3 days. Also, the price can’t be beat.
Edit: G7 Power model, not the regular G7
It was mentioned online as being a good lure but no longer made. Not sure if that’s correct. I found a few used ones (years ago) and finally got around to using them and the river claimed one. I can’t find any markings on the one remaining and want to buy a few more. I think they are older…
I had one of the new Bluetooth Power Drives mounted on it. Same bolt pattern as a Terrova, I would think? I’ll PM my phone#
Any updates on water clarity south of the confluence? Looking to get out in the next few days… Thanks!
They no longer sell the radios with both FRS and GMRS frequencies. It’s one or the other, so pay attention to which one you want and are buying. Not many people know this and even fewer follow the regs, but a license is required to legally operate on GMRS frequencies.
If you have good spark and compression, it’s a fuel problem. Carbs were either not cleaned properly or there was still contaminants in the fuel system that plugged the jets after the carbs were cleaned.
There are a lot of variables that will determine what the “best” mobile unit will be for you. Too many to easily hash through in text. Most of the ham radio clubs have in-person meetings that would give you a chance to talk with knowledgeable people who could guide you in the right direction.
I know you mentioned not liking used electronics, but buying a used radio from someone you get to know locally in a club would carry almost no risk. Some areas have “swap nets” on the air once a week where you can buy, sell and trade gear. It’s another good place to get equipment, but you of course need a radio to listen in to one of them in the first place…
As long as the specs indicate 162 mhz is within the receive range of the radio, it will get NOAA weather.
You will be fine using the calculations they recommend. If you go out in windy conditions a lot or frequently fish in current, it would make sense to go up a size or two. I have 16′ deep v that weighs approx 1600lbs wet (boat, motor, gear, etc .) and I have a 55lb bow mount. I have found it to be plenty sufficient and the only time I thought more would be better was in heavy flow conditions in the main channel of the Mississippi.
If you can afford it, get one with IPilot. You will never regret it.
Yes, you use the remote and they work great. I don’t have my troller linked to the graph and I do not believe I ever will.
The price difference between the Terrova and Power Drive is not much. I’ve had both and would highly recommend getting the Terrova. Better (easier) system to deploy the motor and you can use the “jog” feature on the remote.
I’ve run a 15hp and a 20hp on an older version of this boat that had a slightly narrower beam. Either would plane the boat with 2-3 average sized people. It was slow with 3 and gear. The 20hp with 2 people and gear was about 20mph. I would shoot for a 20hp if the budget allows.
I went to website and nothing there.
I don’t think they list the clearance items on their website. You have to go to the store.
The risk vs. reward involved here doesn’t compute for me. The State gains 300-400 jobs and we risk serious long-lasting pollution if everything doesn’t go perfect. Those jobs simply aren’t worth the risk.
According to the Star Tribune “A leaked e-mail revealed that a Minnesota regulator asked EPA staff not to file their written criticisms of the draft water permit during the public comment period, which had the effect of keeping the EPA’s serious concerns out of the public record.”
Hmm…something doesn’t smell right here. I’m glad the judge put the brakes on until we can figure out where the smell is coming from.
What a helpful group! (NOT). Oh well. Will try a tablet and if it doesn’t work out I will add a second unit connected via Ethernet.
I have tried using a Samsung tablet with the Navionics app and it does work, but not well in the sun. It would do if you’re in a pinch, but I wouldn’t want it to be a permanent solution.
@ 4:00 this afternoon. Looks to be about 3″ of ice.
Stopped by this afternoon to check the ramp conditions after seeing the forecast calling for 40° on Saturday. I was disappointed to see this…ice covering close to 3/4 of the river.
