Thanks for the replies. Anyone switched from G1 or G2 to a newer unit and noticed any significant improvements?

I’ve had good luck with moderate action rods in rod holders pulling slow death hooks. I have had better luck with the death roll hooks than the VMC hooks.

I buy 1# tanks in bulk when they’re on sale dirt cheap. The risks and hassle of refilling them just isn’t worth it for me.

What’s your definition of dirt cheap and where does this happen?

How well did they seem insulated? Sounds like the older ones had some issues…

We will use some 6/0 as well. I was just curious on everyone else’s thoughts. I got a 65 incher last week that had started to straighten out a 5/0 team catfish hook. I use 80lb suffix, most the guys I fish with run 100lb PP.

I had an LX7, but ended up selling it and buying a FL28. I really liked fishing with my LX7 a lot more than my 28, but they just aren’t dependable. I had to send mine in 3 times in 4 or 5 years. Twice it was something with the board and once the transducer and something with the board. While I own a backup/wife’s unit it is still extremely frustrating to deal with. They just need to build it better! I also was fishing more in shallow water at that time and even with the improvements it still wasn’t a good shallow water unit at the time.

I like my wide one, but the tub isn’t very well built.

Wait wait. So guys spend 300-400 on float suits, and then don’t wear them while walking out because they get “too hot.” coffee

I wear a cheap old set of wickers long underwear under my dickies insulated bibs. They don’t float but on the plus side I can actually wear them.

    Good for you applause

I usually just open my zippers on my bibs if it’s early season and I am walking out. I usually wear sweat pants under them or a base layer.

I’d bring more than one rod. You will want/need sensitive rod for fishing perch in deep water. If you don’t want to purchase another rod I’d suggest bringing a clip on type spring bobber for perch.

Your budget is likely less than the tag… I would strongly suggest looking used if that is your budget.

You will need a decent scope. Most of my mule deer have been shot at 300+ yards.

I have an eskimo wide one as well. It’s a great 1 man if you are just going to drag it by hand. I think the sled is way too light weight to tow.

Been use the deer mineral that was posted on here years ago. Still only cost $26 for 200lbs of mineral. Now have many others using this mineral and the deer love it. Pictures have doubled if not tripled off it depending on which property.

    What mineral is that?

Lol says the guy holding 2 fish like that.

Holding perch that went on the wall, not a muskie that was more that likely released.

    1) John Gillespie

It is such an awful show that it is funny at times, but I have a hard time watching a full episode.

I completely agree with you, some people are leeches and/or lazy. Maybe it was a spot they fish all the time, but more than likely they saw someone fishing with a house setup and thought lets go try by them and saw holes drilled and thought even better I don’t have to drill my own hole.

I am absolutely amazed at the people that use the it’s a public lake argument. It’s not about the law, it’s about being considerate to other people. I have gone to plan b and c plenty of times when someone has been setup on plan A. I live in ND and the law here is 50ft from a person in a house instead of the 10 ft MN law. I absolutely can not imagine pulling up right next to someone I don’t know and drilling a hole 10 ft away.

With a budget of $1,000 you would be best off looking for a used terrova someone is selling upgrade to an ulterra.

My buddy as a rack that goes in the receiver hitch on his ranger he hauls his clam x2 around and it works well. I see the perch patrols on devils running racks in the receiver hitches on suburbans that have ramps so you don’t have to lift the house on and off the rack. To me that would be the way to go if hauling an otter lodge.

I really like my eskimo wide one, but it would get destroyed if it was towed around. The sled is absolute garbage. IF they changed it to the sled on their new grizzly house it would be great! If you are running a snowmobile you could put a rack on it would work great. Also not having to extend all the poles is nice. The eskimo just has the one spreader bar.

I shake dry fillets in shore lunch. There is little mess. If you start doing a wetter batter with eggs and milk it will all be messy.

I had TB rebuilding a Perch SH rod that I broke. I had asked that it was rebuilt 32 inches, and they made it 28. I called them and they offered to get a 32 made for me right away. They gave me the option of mailing back the 28 or purchasing it for $50. I of course bought it for $50 and keep that one spooled with mono and my 32 with braid. They were great to work with and fixed the mistake quickly.
