Been so close a few times my ears were ringing all day long. Makes your hair stand up. Very addicting.

Deadline is tomorrow hope everyone remembers to apply.

I have always applied as a landowner and drawn a tag every year and have hunted many different time periods. I have always found it easier to hunt the earlier seasons mainly because there is no foilage on the trees. I feel it makes it easier to set up and get clear shooting lanes in areas I could not later in the season. Although later in the season around D-f toms seem to be more vocal and respond to calling better out of the roost.

In the later seasons in the ag areas most feilds have been preped for spring planting and toms love to strut around in the freshly dug dirt making them more visable and if you see them there one day you can count on them being there the next.

Bulls this size walking around might bring in some tourist money to the area. I know in Pa. people come from all over to see their herd. Mabye the publisity from this might be a good thing for minnesota elk.

As of last draw I have 15. So a few options but still not enough for the great units.

Yea the increase really stinks, but montana has been the best deal in the west for sometime. $640 for a deer and an elk was a steel considering the price in many other states out there. Not to mention you got a fishing license and upland game too. This year might be the first year in 15 years that I don’t apply. $900 is alot to spend if you don’t draw the permit for the area you want to hunt. In 2012 they are talking about having the permit draw and the license draw at the same time wich should have been done years ago like the rest of the west. Besides, I have a lot of pp for colorado burning a hole in my pocket.

eastern montana can be tough to draw for nonresidents expecially if you plan to use a rifle. They have a 900 tag that is good only for archery and is valid in all pronghorn units. You have a little better odds of drawing this tag and you can hunt during the rut. They also have had a tough few years in Eastern Montana between weather and disease their numbers are not what they use to be.

Kooty, I have meet lucas a few times hunting where he got that bull. We hunt the same area every year we get drawn. We were there the week after he shot his bull. He is an unbeliveable hunting machine and knows that area better than anyone I know. We struck out this year it was hard hunting the week we went very wet and most roads were impossible to drive down. But we did see many nice bulls and had our chances. In 2009 I shot a nice 300 inch bull in the same area and my brother got a nice 5×5. Do you hunt around that area also? Here is the pic of my bull from 2009.
