hit spring lake for the first time last wednesday. fishing was slow, but consisted mainly of 6-7″ crappies on bright jigs tipped with a lively minnow. not much action on leeches. Fished off the two southern points and did some trolling along the western shoreline with stick baits snaging a few small eyes. Traffic began to pick up a bit with jetskis and tubers so i called it a day after 5 hours.
Was out on Cedar (between prior and new prague) and had success with the panfish. Had the neice along and we were along a weedline on the west side going after some sunnies when i decided to cast a few rapalas out. I threw the line out and hand it to the niece to hold onto it while i bait her line with a worm when all of a sudden she started reeling in and stoped because she couldn’t pull the line in, (i was expecting some weeds), but when i grab the rod there was a fish on the line, get it to the boat and to great surprise a 5lb largemouth. That made her day and a few stories to tell at daycare for the 5 year old.
December 2, 2007 at 1:37 am #629245Hopefully with the strong winds, it blows most of it off the lakes and will have little effect.
I just know that it sure made it fun driving back to school today(150 miles to Marshall, MN)
October 24, 2007 at 10:44 pm #619406here is a link the the actual minnesota statute regarding shelters on ice. It is pretty straight forward…
Minnesota State StatuteOctober 24, 2007 at 5:04 pm #619287Some movement in the Park Rapids area. Been seeing a lot of does moving around and a number of smaller bucks.

October 22, 2007 at 12:27 am #618402I could not stand the calls they were making in the 3rd quarter when they were on their own goalline. Running the ball up the middle to prevent a safety. Real smart.
TRY PASSING THE BALL!!!
October 19, 2007 at 4:13 am #617931just a shot in the dark, but when my brother purchased his new dell, it came with a program called norton ghost. this would make system restore points, backing everything up on his computer, these files filled up his HD real quick and after two weeks, the file was already 20 gig.
I just opened the program and restricted the size of the backup and its frequency.
one possibility
October 13, 2007 at 11:56 am #616192Here is my brother’s number: Joe Heiman 952-292-3692 & he lives in New Market and is pretty reasonable. He has been roofing for over ten years along with some remodeling. He is currently employed by Atlast roofing out of Hampton. He works all days of the week, so he can be pretty flexible.
October 11, 2007 at 4:18 pm #615640From my observations, the two common problems was the use of dexcool (anitfreeze) from the factory. The factories antifreeze(orange) would deteriate the intake gaskets. If you flush the original antifreeze out, you’ll be set. Otherwise it was likely to replace the gets before it hits 100,000 miles, if not much sooner. Also, there have been issues with oil cooler lines leaking, but this can be fixed easily by replacing the fitting if it begins to leak, a simple fix.
Otherwise it is just regular maintence. It is a very popular vehicle, so so the parts are usually reasonable and cheaper than other makes. If regular maintence is performed, they will run for a long time.October 8, 2007 at 11:28 pm #614674How was the population in Finalayson?
We used to deer hunt there for years, and would always spend some time during the fall grouse hunting. We really didn’t have much luck except for a few here and there. Just curious.

May 18, 2007 at 2:01 am #572422When i got my Smokercraft, was having the same issue. For a cheap fix i picked up a whale tail. Works great, up on plain right away and stays up longer. Here’s a link to cabelas if interested…..

…but can look at em whereeverMay 15, 2007 at 7:40 pm #571452Fished the SE of the lake all day Saturday. Pulled a dozen eyes between two of us. Most were 17-18″, couple cigars, and a few 24-26″. All caught bobber fishing w/ leeches, drifting over some rocks.
Heard on the radio, and can’t confirm, but someone said they caught a 35″ and was having it checked out at DNR. Any truth? or just joking around?

The access is real low! watch for the big rock that is just across from the ramp area. It usally has a bouy near it. Trim it up and keep and eye open….
I know exactly which rock you are talking about, quite often i see guys backing away from the launch and bump that rock.
We touched it a few years back(no damage) but made sure to stay off to one side or the other every time after that while trolling through.
May 3, 2007 at 2:46 am #567320i have a tyee 1950 and will be staying at McQuiods. Any idea, how the public launch is next to it?
We have a dock space rented, so hopefully it is deep enough.
May 2, 2007 at 7:44 pm #567185Not sure about any names, but i would suggest something that near the top of the alphabet if you are planning on advertising in the yellow book. Just because often it the first name on the list gets seen more often.
Just something to consider.

April 29, 2007 at 7:07 pm #565971Finalized it, staying at McQuoids again this year. Heading up Fri morning.
12 days: 9 hours: 40 min: 35 sec !!
April 29, 2007 at 6:59 pm #565970Ventured out on Byllesby on 4/27. Made it out there at 4:30. Cruised around for a little bit, no one else was on the lake. Water levels were down some, west side was pretty shallow. Had lines rigged with 1/16oz yellow jigs with crappie minnows. Dropped the lines down 4′ in 6-8fow. Tossed the lines towards some fallen logs and branches. 2 min of sitting, bobbers started to drop. Pulled out 15 crappies in a couple hours between two of us. Most were 11-12″, but a few just under 10″. Released them all. Highlight of the day, was unintentionally pulling in a 24″ eye, which released immediatly.
April 29, 2007 at 6:47 pm #565968Made out on Shields on Friday, 4/27. We stopped in Shieldsville to pick up some bait. The report on the wall said the crappies were biting on Phelps and Cody near the Big Steer. However, i wanted to get on shields.
Water levels were about average for this time of year. We started on the NW bay/inlet. Throwing out jigs with minnows or plastics in 3 – 7 fow, didn’t have much luck. A few small crappies pulled out. Started to troll along the north shoreline near down trees and docks, no bites. Then jumped to the island, drifted just outside the weedline with little luck. So we trolled with in the weedline and dropped some bobber inside the weeds and we pulled out a few crappies that were 10-11″. Surface water temps were 54*. Left the water at 1:30. Together, we caught about a dozen crappies, but released them all.
A few other boats out there, but everyone was moving around and didn’t see many landing any fish.
April 26, 2007 at 7:38 pm #565211If luck has it, i’ll be up on Mille Lacs watching the bobber on the SE rocks.
Otherwise, will probably be up in Alex with the lil bro.
Have to finalize the arrangements this weekend
**only 15 days, 9 hours, 12 minutes, 1 second and counting!
April 25, 2007 at 3:42 pm #564473Our party had similiar occurances. Actually, this has happened to a few of my permanant stands. We used to hunt on public land between Mille Lacs and Hinkley. We were tucked way back into the woods, much deeper than others were willing to go, so we thought. My first year deer hunting, i was walking out before sunrise to my perm, got there and it was gone!! Looked at it after sunrise and found the nails on the ground and wood scattered around. Two years later, i had a great perm, on a hill looking down at a creek. I get two real nice deer on opening weekend. The next week, head out again, NO STAND! Was torn down again. We have always had success up there, but the parties near us do not. So i’m guessing out of jealousy, they tore my stands down. We have also brought up portables just for easy mobility, because the state has been logging out the woods, and deer have been moving around a lot. First year, we have a stand stolen during the week after opener. So we learned our lesson, and i welded chains to the stand and padlocked them to the trees the next year. This worked better, but unfortuantely after the second weekend, the chain was cut and the stand was gone. We had an idea who took em, but there was no way to prove it.
Since then, we gave up on these woods, and are now hunting in Park Rapids on my uncle’s property. Prime land and is surrounded by state land, so don’t have to worry about any thieves!(besides his driveway, it is atleast 10 mile hike through swampy, hilly, state woods from any road)
April 23, 2007 at 7:33 pm #563698I’ll be home late Thurs, so planning on being out on the water Fri morning.
Let me know how u do Gary!
April 23, 2007 at 7:26 pm #563693I have my baitcaster setup with 20 lb stealth spiderwire with some mono as a backer line. I typically use a backer line, just because i have seen spools of just braided line that loosened and would have issues gripping to the spool.
I have used this setup a numerous times and has worked excellent.
