If you don’t have any pets around, aside from the cats, put a bowl of Mt.Dew mixed with 50% anti freeze. It’ll take care of the unwanted guests.

I bow hunt but those arrows always cost 30 bucks. Shotgun shells didn’t always cost $10 a piece. And you are correct, the 12 gauge felt some cumbersome. When hunting in the woods the 28” barrel would always get caught in stuff. My 20 gauges is so light, I’m just gonna carry it by hand. I also have a red dot mounted on the vent rib with a Warren mount, which allows me to get my cheek right on the stock, unlike my 12 gauge, plus I can carry it around the center of the gun. I’m digging it. If I need to go TSS, I might, but if I can get my Longbeards to pattern fine at 30 yards, and perhaps 40, I’m sticking with them.

Vinci weighs 6.9 pounds by itself per Benelli’s website. Plus optic and turkey loads. Perhaps I guessed and didn’t weigh it out, but it’s a helluva lot heavier then my 20” barreled 20 gauge.

I only inquired because everybody on every forum are talking about TSS. I’m a good shot, I don’t use a 12 gauge because I can’t shoot. I use a 12 gauge because most people do who turkey hunt. I don’t think using a sub gauge for vanity is appropriate so I was just wondering if lead and 20 gauge do well on turkeys. The loads are substantially slower and pack a lot less load, so it got me wondering. Pheasant and rabbit are a lot smaller than turkey. I also used a 12 gauge deer hunting too, because that was what I used. I now use a 45/70, but I think using appropriate calibers and gauges for the game you pursue is important.

Usually I can smell the turkey’s breath when I pull the trigger, they’re so close. I used to run a Vinci with 3” #6 Longbeards, and they killed a pile of turkeys, a couple to 50 yards ranged, but those were in fields with decoys and I just don’t hunt that way anymore. I like calling to my tree and see their pretty smile before I knock their beak off. Spent too much time researching turkey chokes and went with the Carlson’s extend turkey, .575 constriction. We shall see how she does. I also got a box of Federal Grand Slams in 5 shot to test as well. If I need to go TSS, I might load them myself, I got all the powder and primers to do it, just need some 20 gauge empties and some shot. I have been looking and some of the #9 TSS loads leave a pretty amazing pattern at 50. But I don’t care. I don’t ever get 50 yard shots in the woods. Kinda like having a 60 yard pin on your bow and hunting in the woods, you’ll never use it. 20-30 yards is where they mostly get crumpled, and sometimes 10-20 feet.

Yup. It’s raining down here in Iowa today but I’m gonna pattern it this week. I got both Longbeard 5 and 6 shot I’m gonna pattern, see which one the gun likes.

    Stanley

    The rifle used
Vudoo 360 right bolt left port action.
40 moa rail and a 20 moa Spuhr scope mount.
25.5” x 1.25” straight shank 13 twist barrel with EC tuner.
Vortex Gen III 6-36×56 Mil scope with base setup allows 31.5 mils of dial up and another 30 mils of holdover – good for 700 yards.
Matrix Pro II chassis with picatinny bridge ahead of scope.
Multi purpose Charlie MK8 used after 700 yards or when needed in regards to setup.

Using 22LR Lapua Midas Plus ammo

    JH

That sounds like it should work. You gonna use standard velocity ammo to avoid bullet tumbling when going subsonic?

Any updates on Trey Hendrickson yet? Figured he probably signed with Detroit a few minutes ago, or the Bears. jester

Gotcha. I think getting rid of Josh Myers and picking up Aaron Banks, albeit expensive, should be a net gain. I hope anyway, Jenkins should do better at center than Myers.

I won’t lie, I was surprised at the number tied to both players’ contracts, but correct me if I’m wrong, isn’t the guaranteed money on the contracts low and the layout of them pretty team friendly? Thought I heard that anyway.

I got a pair of Zamberlan boots, the Sierra 700 GTX I believe, and they haven’t let me down. I also have a pair of Danner 600 hiking boots that have been great as well, no wet feet so far. That includes morning walks through dewy grass and hunting in the rain.

Boy, 1000 yards with a 22lr? That seems like a task, you are gonna have to have a scope with a lot of internal adjustment. 2981 inches of drop at 1000 yards. I don’t know what the wind would do either so go on a calm day. coffee waytogo

If what you mean by wind knots are when the braid knots itself around your rod blank and then you have to slide it over the tip top, yes, I have those problems as well. Have had them with every braid I’ve tried. Some old river rat once told me that when you get them, apply chap stick to the tip top, it makes it easier to slide the knot over the top guide, so I do that and it’s worked good. My main lines are Suffix 832, Power Pro, and Fireline Crystal 3/8. All have done it. If it is from over casting, I wouldn’t be surprised, I do make bomber casts and use light jigs.

My EDC holster for my Sig P228 is a Milt Sparks. I like leather myself.

*Update- my P220 and P226 holster is a Milt Sparks, my P228 holster is a Garrity Leather Holster, checked over break. Both are great.

What area is pool 10 ? I don’t go south so I’m trying to envision it. And looks like a great day.

Pool 10 runs from Lynxville, Wi/Harpers Ferry, Ia, down to the dam at Guttenberg, Ia.

Man I thought I packed a lot of gear. Never took a bucket of Kitty Litter. whistling

Kitty litter bucket is my buddies. He uses it for putting his rods and stuff in. We also use it Flathead fishing in the summer as the bait bucket, the trap door on the top is nice for keeping the bait from jumping out, just drilled a hole in it and feed the aerator tube through the top. Works good.

My Neighbor pressure cooks them and then Picks the meat and makes squirrel pot pie wit fresh vegtables from the garden in the fall and it is great.

Yes! This is how I cook them too. I also pan fry them and make a cream gravy out of the drippings and serve over smashed tatoes. Little buggers are tasty.

Those look nice for smallies in the spring! If you make more and want to sell, please let me know. I’d take a dozen in 3/32nd or 1/16th oz.

    Nice fish Steve.Bussey?

Yup. We walked out from the road to the island and went out as far as we could. Ice was good, but edges were sloppy.

I have a one man Eskimo flip over I got at the end of season at a local Theisens, for half off, came to $75.00. It’s non insulated, but as others have said, it stays warm with a little buddy heater pretty easy.

I’m bumping this up after the recent heat wave. Any reports on ice conditions? Was hoping to get up to pool 9 or 10 this weekend.

I shoot the 50s outta a 1/8 twist Rainier barrel on my SPR build and I shoot them outta an M16 build with a 20” 1/7 twist barrel. I also have a bolt action tikka in 223 that loves them too. The other bullet I’ve used is a 75 grain A Max, propelled by RL15.

I load 50 grain VMax over a stiff load of IMR3031 and they have laid claim to several yotes.

Yikes, that’s spendy. For bass, I might go $4.00. I really prefer the Wal Mart special crankbaits that are $1.99. I don’t get so heated when a snag confiscates one.

    mrgreen mrgreen

    Do any good Steve?

Chuck, the bite was slow. We were fishing Sunfish Lake and we also tried some backwaters around the East Dubuque area and caught some smaller crappies and perch, and a small northern on a tip up. The long rod guy was having a better day then I. Size must matter, despite what the wife keeps telling me. coffee mrgreen

Oddly enough, I called that guy regarding his rods and I like them, but they aren’t the length I was wanting, even though his price was fair. I also was looking for someone who could make mine a certain color combo, and he didn’t do custom orders. Perhaps I will just have to dig into my pocket book a little deeper.

I have a few long rods, they can be hard to find. There is a place that make custom long rods that run the line inside the blank. Too spendy for the 2-3 times a year I use them.

Yes. This guy had one with a reel on the end of the rod and the line ran through the blank. Idk if it’s a southwest Wisconsin/mississppi backwater exclusive but it looked cool. I seen some at the bait shop in Lansing and Guttenberg, IA, but they looked too expensive, like $250 and I was wondering if someone local on here made them for less.

Just did some hindquarters the other day. Local market had them on sale for 57 cents a pound. Yes please! I bought a bunch.
