Yep! Spendy. In my case I have open water units also so I already have multiple map chips so thankfully no extra cost there for me.
Got mine put together on tuesday. You would think for that kind of money they could at least put em together. Little bit of assembly required. Not a huge deal but big hands in small places with small screws don’t work well. Pretty nice solid unit in the end though. All we need now is some ice to put it to the test. Been wanting to try a helix on ice for last couple years. Almost bought last year. Glad I waited for the new design.
Yeah you’re right about that. All the top units from the different brands are getting out of control. Guess everything is getting that way.
I wasn’t aware the maxxum had sonar built in either just like gimruis said, but that is what it looks like in the picture. It’s not a fortrex is it?
Looks like a us2 style maybe? If so you would possibly need a cable to go from the existing cable to the helix and that would give you regular sonar. No down imaging. Look on minnkotas site and see what you can find. Good luck
The 7 is a g3 mega imaging unit. Wish I would have bought the g3n originally. Lesson learned. Didn’t realize at the time I would be making these changes. Was hoping this would work out. Sounds like it should. Thanks for the info slowpoke
The unit i was thinking of putting up front is an extra 7 that I would have that is a non-networking model. That is why I’m trying to figure out if I can just plug the motor ducer to it and hook it to a battery and have it separate from everything else and use it for basic depth and di. Thanks for the info so far. Hopefully I’m explaining everything good enough
I also have the same shack thinking about selling. In excellent condition. Little north of brainerd. Also has cover and hyfax installed. Thinking 850.
I have had several marcums over the years. Lx-5s, lx7,s with and without lithium shuttles. I have also owned multiple vexilars and they were and still are flawless for flashers. I have decided to take a break from marcum just for the fact they have got to be the most high maintenance units I’ve ever owned. Had to ship back and replace parts too many times. With that being said, the lx-7 with the shuttle is the best unit I have ever used without a doubt. Thinking about trying a helix 7 ice. Already have the unit just need to get an ice kit. Everyone seems to love them. Marcums new units look awesome but I’m guessing reliability will still be an issue. Vexilar also has a new unit coming out that will probably be the unit to have in the flasher world. In the end how do you go too wrong with any of them. They’re all awesome. Good luck choosing
Have no experience with c-map But have been using lakemaster and humminbird units for awhile and they will leave you regretting nothing. Very good maps and easy to use units. I know I didn’t fully answer your question but hope it helps in your decision
Yeah it’s obviously targeting the drill/bit combo market and for someone like myself I would rather buy and use this than my drill with a bit of my choice. Just saying its not much cheaper than going that route and for the people who don’t have a drill to use for other things, they may want to do that and have a drill and be much lighter at the same time. And then also at 400 and that weight if you can scrape up the extra cash may as well just go for a 40. None of the electric 40 volt augers are heavy or hard to carry around no matter the brand. Like I said, especially my g2 at 17 lbs. it’s actually fun to use. I’m not a brand snob either. Love em all. Have used the strikemaster 40 also and it is awesome. You can get those for an xtra 100 bucks tops. I just chose ion for weight and I had an ion x I loved already. Not saying anything negative about this auger. Just curious how it will do. Glad they are all coming out with more toy options for us.
If you are looking to save a couple buck versus the drill/bit combo, but even that is not much. Also the weight doesn’t make up for it. My ion g2 is 17 lbs and this with an 8 inch is just over 14 so I don’t fully understand how much market there will be for this? Don’t take me the wrong way, this is a cool little auger. I would actually prefer this over the drill/bit combo but at 400, may as well just go for a 40 in my opinion. These electric augers of all brands these days are awesome. Doesn’t matter what brand you like they are all a must have
You need to measure how tall the rear of your boat is. From bottom to the top of the transom. If around 15 inches short will work. If 17 inch or more you need a long shaft.
If you could post a picture of the transducer mounted on the boat it may help
Not positive but every lakemaster card I’ve bought came with the full size chip with the micro chip removable fo whatever sonar unit you have. Unless you bought the chip used and don’t have both you should be covered.
If it’s the same power chord you can use it. Just compare the end that plugs into the unit. If the transducer has already been installed I would just leave it alone if it works. If it isn’t reading right then I would install the board so you are able to adjust or add without additional damages to your transom.
Tough road ahead tom. Don’t matter either way if you want to or not. But it is definitely doable. Chewed for over 25 years. COPENHAGEN! Nothing better. Quit 3 or so years ago. Like pat i also used smokey mountain to start with, but that stuff is terrible for your teeth. Think it’s the molasses. Now I just chew on jack links jerky chew. It’s not too expensive and it keeps your mind off the real stuff. I was never one for gum or seeds or anything for more than a few days but this stuff is doing the job for me. Good luck!
I’ll judge it when I see the product and know the details. I can’t wait to see what they have to offer because I have thought about getting one of these options. Curious to see the pricing compared to what’s our there also. Bring it on
I personally wouldn’t do it. Make it all up and share some with someone is what I would do.
In my opinion if you want anything to do with side imaging get the absolute biggest screen you can afford. It makes all the difference in the world. If you have to stick to a 5 thats fine too but save a few bucks and stick to di. Size is everything with si.
X2 on diseased fish of some sort. Would have to see a better picture to ever make a decision on that. Maybe someone released a coy? That is odd looking whatever it is
Without more details the only thing I could think of for you to check are the obvious things. Make sure there is nothing to the left of the transducer blocking that side. Such as the motor. Also make sure the transducer is sitting level. If it’s turned it may possibly only pick up one side. Hopefully it’s just something as simple as one of these things. Not alot of help but couple things worth checking. Good luck
If that’s what would make you happy, do it. I bet it would be an awesome motor. Better than the others out there? Who knows. Sure you would be happy though. Don’t know if you can really go too wrong brand wise these days. More than anything I think choosing enough horse power for your particular boat is more important than anything. Good luck with your choice
Agree with justin. Have used a helix 5 for several years and it is an awesome accessory. But if your budget allows and you have room a 7 would be the perfect choice. If your budget is tight though like you said you will be super happy with a 5. I also used a Lowrance h2o and it was a great unit but as you stated, not fun to try to read while driving. Helix 5 will fix that. Good luck
Yep. Like munchy said. Also should be a single hole to add a screw right in the middle to keep it in place. If its like mine the actual mounting screws are behind the part flipping up and then the single hole on the outside.
We were notified our school is shut down starting tomorrow. I’m sure there will be many more doing the same. The Wednesday thing is just the deadline. Things could be interesting for awhile
