What a great gesture on your part Will!

My boys have not had a chance to stay in a fish house on the ice overnight. They love to fish and would be excited if they were picked.

How old are your boys. I have 2.5 year old and wondering on time line for adventures

8 & 5 are their ages. My oldest has been joining me since about that 2-1/2 yr old age. Biggest thing is letting them decide the length of the outing and what to fish for. Snacks, snacks and snacks can extend an outing as well!

I was up there a few weeks ago and some information I can share is the following. The lake is down about 4′ right now and from the sounds of things, the access on Pelican is not going to be open at all this year. With all the different access points on the lake, you should be able to play the wind to a point but chances are you will be dealing with it no matter where you are on the lake.

Don’t overlook shore fishing as an option, this can be good the entire summer, and can’t keep you from getting beat up bad on an extremely windy day.

Woodland Resort or Perch Eyes Guide Service are a couple good options for seeing how the bite is going.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It looks like I have some options to look into to help resolve the issue. I’ll do my best to post an update as I work to correct the issue.

Motor is trimmed all the way down, I do have 2 batteries up front as well. Not sure how much weight I can cram in the storage area. This is also with at least one adult up towards the front of the main deck area.

Trev, are you still getting out? Could you shoot me an email at [email protected] ? I’ve got a couple quick questions for you.

I was out a few weeks ago, lake seems low but did find a few biters.

Great colors on that bird. Love seeing the many colors when they have the sun beaming down on them.

Great birds! This was my first season of hunting turkey and it was tough for me as well. Good to see you accomplish the goal right at the end!

I hunted this week and noticed that the Tom’s were henned up. Being new to the game it created some challenges for me as I the day I should have got out earlier in the afternoon, I didn’t. 4 Tom’s were already in the field and I didn’t feel comfortable that I could get close.

Good luck to you and your daughter ‘Thumper!

Weather looks decent up this way on Saturday. Sunday and Monday look to be tough.

Good luck if you and your daughter get out.

I picked up a feeder hen Avian X. Looking forward to trying it as it is my first season. Like the detail and the fact it can collapse down and inflate easily.

Looking forward to getting out scouting next week to see what the birds are doing. The landowners son has been doing some scouting for me and has been seeing tracks in a few areas on his land. Season B can’t come soon enough!

I have been looking for options as well and am looking at Stony Point Campground. Very reasonable and access to quite a bit of the lake from here.

What is a good handheld gps unit. But not too expensive.

I have a Garmin Oregon with a Lakemaster chip that I have been very happy with. All touch screen, so it makes it nice to use. I have had mine for 3 years now without any issues.

For a production made rod, the quick tip is the best one in my opinion when you compare it to others like a Jason Mitchell Meatstick, etc. I have a few of these along with me each outing and they have worked great for me the past 4 years. I rarely use a spring bobber rod anymore, as I feel these do very well as you can see a crappie lift your bait by watching the tip. Go with a 27 or 32″ rod, as I don’t feel the 22 or 24″ are quite as sensitive.

The TUC rods are sweet though, so you if you want to pony up a few extra $’s, you won’t be disappointed.

So… take the road to the end, man! And if snow pack allows for it, take the truck off the main road (be very sure of the ice conditions) and get away from the crowds.

I would like to echo being very sure of the ice conditions. I was up just a few days ago and fished the same area that James and Dave. We did some exploring via snowmobiles as well and there is ALOT of broken up ice out there to contend with. You will see it in places going up Adrian’s road.

One spot we punched holes at had broken sheets of ice. 3 of the 4 holes had 12+ inches of ice, the other hole only had 8″ at most. And this was in the area of a portable shelter, so please use caution.

Another tip that we used to our advantage was to keep a close eye on the entire water column on your electronics. We were able to get several of our fish that came in 10 feet off the bottom in 30 fow. Without electronics we would never have known. So if you see a mark or marks coming in at a certain depth above, don’t be afraid to reel up and catch those fish.

Great sunset picture Chris! We dodged the bullet on the big snow too, which is nice with these cold temps we are experiencing.

Looking forward to the reports from Rainy this winter.
