Was just being a smart . Its a remington. Dont know the model.bolt action. Shoots good out to 300 yds. And I would never spend 1000 on a rifle. Those are the reasons for my previous answer.
I shot 3 with mine last yr. 40-100 Yds. One was a neck shot at 70 yds. While tbe deer was hanging we passed a golf ball thru the entire neck. I have no reservations on shooting deer with that caliber. 100 grain federal factory loads
When we hunt the muzzleloader season. Doe inly for nonresidents. We see bucks of that caliber all the time and several per year. Its sad that in 20+ yrs i used to hunt minnesota i had never seen bucks like that
The sloghs i hunted near this weekend were frozen. Birds can run on em but i wouldnt try to. Got my four birds but the snow helped i am sure. Sounds like it will be gone by then tho.
Even my closest friends and hunting buddies i dont tell about my hottest spots. Either go by myself or i like to take people that dont get to hunt often to those places.
If I found the right one with the metal frame and plexiglass window it is the same one I have. Or extremely similar(maybe not the same company) I have used mine for 7 years and am very happy with it. The hinges have held up and thats about all that can go bad. The glass is no longer clear but the door itself works. Dont know what kind of dog you have but the hinges are stiff to make sure it seals itself back closed. In my opinion it is a good choice for dogs over 50 lbs.
I was thinking the same thing today as I met all these trucks pulling 4 wheelers and utility atv’s. Does anyone drag their deer anymore? Does anyone actually walk into their spots? I guess the money spent on these machines is saved by not going thru hunting boots.
Weve got 100+ ringbills on the slough we hunt. The problem is theyve been there too long. Wont blink at our decoys. The bluebird mornings with no wind hasnt helped either. Whenever a fresh flock enters the lake its game on but the other ones just stay on the other side. Need a weather system to get some fresh birds asap!
Between the 6 of us that were out. (split into pairs in 3 different areas of western MN) We all managed to get our limits for both days. Had to work hard and cover a ton of ground but it is worth it.
When I find the pics I will post. I shot one 13 years ago now. 22 inch tail feathers, some multi coloring and little bumps for spurs. I have it mounted but is currently at my parents house. The local DNR and taxidermist never saw such a thing
Yesterday had 100 birds in the field. Today 5 showed up and never left. Saw alot in the distance and had a fair amount of shooting around us. Oh well there is always next year. Back to hunting muskies
The gun dog door is what I have too. (Or something very similar) It takes a little bit for the dog to get used to pushing it open, the springs are pretty stiff, but it seals up real tight to the frame if you follow the directions.
My thought is that the scope will provide false confidence for alot of people to take shots beyond their effective range, resulting in more wounded deer. Beyond that though the greatest part of muzzy season for myself has always been about getting as close to my quarry as I can, not seeing how far out I hit one at
