I’m on my second season with a Prodigy. I use it mainly for bottom bouncing. (flipping switch) The only issue that I have with it is when I get hung up on the bottom and give it a hard jerk to break it loose the reel will sometimes backlash. This has happened several times. A backlash is bad. A backlash when you’re snagged and in a wind is even worse. This could be an operator issue as I’m not a baitcaster expert by any means. It just seems to me that the drag should give before the thing goes into free reel.

We had a guy in Duluth killed last year trying to keep his boat off the rocks. He sliped and it crushed him. I think it’s Bill Engvald.

Up here on the Gunflint Trail some of us have wireless access but there is no cell coverage. And most of us would like to keep it that way. Call me old fashioned but I wouldn’t get a cell phone even if they were available.

I’ve had several close encounters with Timber Dogs, enough that I can’t keep count. Truth be told it saddens me to see them in a cage. They truely are a hunting machine. It’s interesting to back track a moose kill and see how they set it up.

It seems to me that the guy at Cabela’s was having a bad day. I have an X102c and I’m very, very fond of it. I also am in the process of deciding on a bowmount trolling motor and if I go with one this year I’ve decided to go with a flasher on the bow. I just figure if I’m trolling with the bowmount I’ll be in shallower water and in the weeds etc. I think a flasher has some advantages in those circumstances. Just a thought.

Tiller boats are more dangerous… to the fish.

I second the Lowrance X102c. Great unit and Lowrance’s service is second to none.

A member on another forum was answering a question I had concerning my Lowrance. He put a link to the Doc Sampson thread on this site. I quickly book marked the site and have been visiting daily since.

I’m one of those guys that never wears a PFD. That is until this year. I bought a SOSpenders self-inflater this winter and I’ll be wearing it this season. Just getting old I guess.

From everything I’ve read at this site, Jolly Marine has a top notch reputation. Reputations are earned not given. I would listen to what he has to say. Advice from someone of his experience can be priceless, particularly when it comes to something as important as fishing vs working.

Let’s see if I’m understanding this correctly. In 2007, I go on a fishing trip to Canada. I don’t have a passport, however I can get into Canada. When the trip is over I can’t get back in the U.S. until the paper work is completed. This would force me to stay in Canada for at least several days and maybe even a week or two. I’ll bet the boss has never heard this one before.

I believe the RABC expires on your birthday. So if you get one shortly after your birthday and it happens to be in winter, it’s good for 2 seasons. If you get on just before your birthday and it’s in the summer it will expire on your birthday the next season. I think.

What I’ve been trying to find out is if you’ll need a passport to fish Canadian waters if you don’t touch land. Isn’t the passport issue about getting back into the US after you’ve been in Canada?

Seems to me that I read something about “Blue Walleyes” if I remember correctly they where mainly on the east coast or down south, back in the day. The weren’t sure if they were fished out or absorbed into the (regular) walleye gene pool.

What did he say? What pound test do you use with that?

I don’t know why everyone is so surprised. It’s California that you’re talking about. The state where guns are banned and the rights of child pornographers are considered sacred.

I know a guide that picked up the state record walleye before she was weighed. He swears that when he picked her up at least 3ounces of eggs came out of her.She was caught on the opener. As stated earlier you can’t fish the Seagull river now until the first week in June. It doesn’t matter though, the next state record walley will come out of Sag,(Sag does have the genetics) and I’ll post pictures of her as soon as I catch her. Well after I make a few phone calls first.

I understand Lowrances insentive. What concerns me is customer service. As far as I’m concerned Lowrance has the best customer service in the industry. I don’t see how this merger will improve their service. Oh well.

Just a word of caution. We have several 14 foot boats with 15 inch transoms. When changing over to 4-strokes it became a real hasstle to get the old 14 footers to plane because of the weight of the 4-strokes. I would make sure that the boat you’re thinking of converting can handle the weight of the motor. Especaily if it’s going to be a 4-stroke.

Am I understanding that you guys are able to get readings on your X102c’s at higher speeds? If so I’ll write off last year as a practice year. I’ve got alot of strakes under my boat. They’re about 6″ apart along the bottom. Maybe I’m getting air. My 102 goes out at about 1/3 throttle and it’s only a 25 hp.

And there’s always that pesky little issue about returning rights guarenteed by the second ammendment to the constitution.

I think that you should be able to transport a potential state record fish (alive) to the local DNR office or to a C.O. I would hate to have to kill the new state record walleye just to take her off the water. I understand that there would be abuses however, I don’t think there would be all that many.

Mine works a little differently. It’s a button next to the thumb bar that when pressed, disengages the thumb bar. It works great for droping a bottom bouncer. I rarely cast with it.

I use a Cabelas Prodigy with a flipping switch for bottom bouncing. It’s great for one handed operation.

It’s like anything else electronic, prices seem to come down over time. When I see the prices of the new Aqua -Views compared to what I paid a couple of years ago, I almost want to buy a new one.

The definition of urban sprawl: That’s where they cut all the trees down and name the streets after them.

Just to give you an idea. A 2006 Maxxum, transom mount 55# thrust 36″ shaft, and tilt/twist tiller, retails for around $369 and wholesales for around $290.
