That’s funny Grouse! Wear and tear from use is one thing. Was just wondering if anybody had any tricks to deal with road salt.
60,000+ for a boat ..you bet I’m gonna do what I can to protect the “new” boat look as long as possible

For you the guys that tow your boat late in the year! In Ontario we use a ton of road salt!
Will the road salt damage the gel coat? Should I be looking at spraying it down after each trip?
It will be stored in a heated shed.
Thanks guys for the great info! I’m not concerned with top-speed from these motors. It’s hole shot, mileage, reliability & ambient sound I am be most interested in.
Looks like they are still making them Now to find a store that actually carries them on Canada!
Interesting , so I would assume that increased gearing in the lower unit and mid-range torque should have effect on mileage, but probably not enough to warrant the cost of switching a new wx2060 to a 250 offshore?
What about noise, man I could not believe how quite the 300hp offshore was, are these SHOs just a quiet?
Well, were back from the the lake. It was absolutely beautiful!! Very little cottages, and low boat traffic.
Water temps were mostly 45-48. Really tried hard in the shallows but couldn’t get anything to go.
We casted jigs, live bait & crank baits in a bunch of different 5-15′ areas, some had good current in neck down areas.
We were near 2 of the main spawning areas for the lake. We could only find fish in the 20-30′ foot range.
We got some major weather on Sunday, so after being blown of the water for most of Sunday we had to get out and couldn’t control the boat to jig properly so we trolled.
I don’t think we really located where they were holding. We managed 5 or 6 jigging in 20′-25′ of water but most of our fish came trolling the 25′ to 30′ depth down shore lines.
I”m sure the fish we picked up trolling were migrating to/from the spawning area.
Thanks for the tips!
Worked great! thanks! I saw the delete button when I first did it but I didn’t trust it LOL!
My 798ci hd is so slow to draw, can’t wait to upgrade!
This is a great idea “Truxedo windshield cover” ! I’m totally using this product.
I’m still torn on the transom saver, but I do see the point of all the transferring all the shock from the trailer to the motor, i guess the transfer goes both ways LOL!
Thank you everybody… it’s going to be long year waiting to order this boat!
I can’t believe it’s taking over 2 years to get a permit for just darn garage.. *cough* *cough* I should say “SHED” ugh!
Great input thanks everybody!
I think I will stick to a transom saver on the new boat, like you said Dutchboy..piece of mind.
NOW!… How about a model that doesn’t scratch the hell out of your lower unit..
The one I put on my current boat, has scratched the hell out of my 75 hp outboard. What a BUMMER!
Thanks!
We typically tow from 1 hour to 6 hours, man I wish I had fishable water 20 mins from my house! cover it is…thanks
I have always used transom savers since our 1989 Ranger 680T Fisherman with a 60hp came with one.
On my second trip with it, I got rear ended, the impact pushed me from a full stop at a red light 1/2 into the intersection.
Took of 2 blades and 3/4 of my skeg off, folded my transom saver.. The repair guy told me that it was the transom saver that saved my boat it transferred the force onto the trailer and not the transom.
I didn’t have a single pressure crack, even around the mounting bolts which shocked me!..
With that said that model had a wooden transom, now most glass boats don’t have wood in there so maybe they are stronger. Which why I asked the question
Do you think bouncing in water has more force that say a “free” bounce when a boat is on the trailer?
I would think there is more force when there is no drag from the water.. but I don’t know that’s why I’m asking.. man those 300hp 4 strokes are big motors not to support LOL!..is it typical to not use a transom saver?
Thanks CF,
I did this the other night to update the maps but was hoping there was software more geared to planning. Oh well
Even this software is pretty buggy, at least on Windows 10. It downloads a bunch of update almost 2gigs of data… runs for ever, then completes with the “Your Maps are now up to date blah blah” message.
Close the app reopen it..oh.. did it update or didn’t it..still says you have 2 gigs of updates waiting..
On a positive note the maps look good..
I just bought the card this week. What software do you use to open the maps?
Eh thanks James & Crappy Fisherman! We always default to looking in that 15′ to 30′ depth range looking for fish.
We don’t have a lot of confidence fishing shallow for walleye, but were looking to increase our bag of tricks!
Thanks for the info Waxy! I was going to ask if the floor gets hot, in the summer sun.
OH! I didn’t even notice the 300 was a V6… Ya I’m more than sure I’d be satisfied with a 300hp
Thanks Calvin! I was hoping either the Skeeter Wx2190 or Warrior v208 would fit in an 8′ door
Thanks Guys, I am far from SBC, but if we end up going with Skeeter or Warrior it will be from SBC. I’ve never heard people give such good reviews of a dealer in my area, that SBC gets.
I will be coming for test drives, but will wait till we have a place to put her, which is going up this year! I don’t want to ask for test drive unless I’m ready to buy and that will be next season.
If you guys have a V208 with the tall windshield in the showroom can you measure the height on the trailer.
Thanks
Hey Guys, thanks for answering my question
I really just started looking at warriors.. I guess right now, the only other question I have is if the side rod lockers can fit trolling reels? In the video it doesn’t look like there is much width to them.
I’m very disappointed with this news.
I have 6-7 yr old Garmin 276c. It performs a the day I purchased it.
My next boat I was goin to go full Garmin, although I’m not sure I would utilize this technology properly.
