I would keep him on a long check cord, used in conjunction with the e-collar until he understands the basic commands. Come, sit, stay are basic commands he should have mastered on a check cord before he is ever shocked with the e-collar. Your jumping problem can be cured the same way but with a short leash. Practice with family or neighbors coming to the door, the short leash willl allow you teach him the expectations, then you can introduce the e-collar to finish the lesson.
