My story is kind of like Boone’s. It was about 3 years ago, it was in Febuauary and the day was surprisingly warm. We drove down there with my brother’s old Terry Bass boat. He only has a 2wd Nissan pickup and figured since it was warm ice on the ramp wouldn’t be a problem. Well we fished all day caught a bunch of eyes, and 2 sturgeon. We noticed that it had gotten alot colder since we landed the boat and decided to get the heck out of there. Well when we got back to the landing the ramp was glare ice, no matter how hard we tried we couldn’t get the heavy fiberglass bass boat out of the ramp. A guy in a big 3/4 ton Chevy had a big Pro-V saw us and un-hooked his boat and with out thinking twice we got out his tow strap and pulled the truck and boat out of the landing. One of the nicest guys I have ever met. We offered him $20 bucks for helping us, but he wouldn’t take it. You don’t really find people that nice anymore.

I’m just really getting into fishing walleyes seriously. My brother bought me a 8′ 6″ Aurora Kevin Kraft signature series trolling rod with a Mitchell Riptide 70CD line counter. Anybody have any experiece with this reel? I also got me a copy of Precision Trolling.

Drake, hey bud. Hopefully I will be down there. I don’t know what my brother is gonna do yet. We’ll be in a silver Nitro bass boat with a 115 Merc on it. Later, Pit

I have only fished Red Wing a handfull of times but I do have one story. I believe it was 2 mabey 3 years ago. My brother wanted to get his Nitro out of storage and head down there for the afternoon. It was raining around Mankato and we thought, “no big deal, we got rain gear” Well we picked up on of my buddys and headed down there. We got down there and found the wind howling strait down the channel about 40 to 50 mph. Being bass fishermen we were kinda mad, but we thought we could make it to the shallow water, WRONG! We got the boat off the trailer and started down river, it wasn’t too bad untill the river opened up a little bit and all hell broke loose. I can remember taking 4 waves almost in a row over the bow. The bilge pump was going full blast. We decided there to just head back to the landing. Going with the waves we were able to get up on plane. Needless to say we found out that bass boats aint made for rough water. I have been in some big waves before in the Nitro(like Okiboji in the spring) But nothing that bad! One of the scarest times of my life.

Like as was stated before they are great for chasing ducks, but there just basicly a lawnmower with a muffler(it don’t help much) I have ridden in a 14ft TDB with a Go-Devil. There isn’t much that is gonna stop a flat bottom boat with a mud motor. One thing to keep in mind, when you do get stuck, be prepared to be there a while cause it’s usually dry land that your stuck on. But they are fun to run in nothing but suck mud! Hope this helps.

The twilight hours always seem to be the best for me too. Although I have caught my 2 biggest Flatheads at 2:00 in the afternoon. I have always done better for flatheads anywhere there is rocks. The flatheads just seem to prefer them over snags.

Kevin, I’m also down on the river quite a bit. If you ever come across a Bass Tracker Pro Team 175, thats either me, my brother, or both. Stop by and say howdy!
