Nothing wrong with Amped Jigs but it’s hard to beat the overall quality/value of Widow Maker Lures. They have quite a few proprietary profiles and they’re all reasonably priced. Really sharp hooks and great paint jobs and glow. They sell kits too. Widowmakerlures.com

As a newbie to this area of the Mississippi, I’m planning a trip up on the 10th, I’m hoping the ice holds through this week!

Agreed! The premise is good but having every team doing the same thing would have made it better. I enjoy the discussion on tactics and the different approach each team makes but if there’s not going to be an Uncut Angling video, then it’s hard to include the results and see how they compare. What if they “win”??

Saw on the Manitou site they claim no oil changes, maybe they’re going the same way as lawn mowers with burning some oil? Or maybe old Ole Evinrude was rolling in his grave and they stuck to a two stroke 😂😂😂

I just installed one in my Otter Lodge and it’s the best thing I’ve done to it. 2KW model from eBay for $110. I mounted it to the inside front slope of the sled with some fire proof insulation in between and have it wired with a voltage regulator to run off Dewalt batteries. Had to insulate the fuel pump as the clicking noise was the loudest part. Got a lot of good tips from the Chinese diesel heater groups on Facebook. So far I’ve had it running for 15 hours or so and I figure it uses a half a gallon of diesel on low and a gallon and a half on high in 24 hours. It’s a game changer when it comes to space efficiency and dry heat. There’s a reason RV’s, campers and semi trucks use these all the time, they just plain put out heat! Once I have a long term review, I’ll post that up for the group.

I bought a two pack of iPad screen protectors on Amazon for a few bucks and cut one down to install on my 73SV. Works great and clear is the way to go for sure.

Glad to hear your rig is back in tip too shape Denny O! With all the modern additives available and how cheap they are, it always surprises me when you see fuel that looks like that. An ounce of prevention….. lol!

Iowaboy- keep the posts coming, I know I sure enjoy all the stories!

I use a couple Dewalt Tough System boxes to store extra drill batteries and more fragile gear too. They hold up great, I’ve never had any problems with them in the cold. Much better than cheap plastic totes in my opinion.

I think the big advantage of Panoptix over Livescope is its range. You can find fish a long ways out. Otherwise, the lag is definitely noticeable vs. A flasher. Might be better off with a used Garmin head unit and the $1500 bare Livescope. My two cents!

I was pretty skeptical but it worked really well and it’s relatively cheap. A little goes a long ways!

Definitely check out Meguiar’s PlastX. It took all the film off my Otter Lodge windows and really cleared them up nice again! Way better than anything else I’ve found so far. You can get it on Amazon for $6.50 and a little goes a long ways.

LiveScope or Panoptix? Is it a 7 or 9” display?

Thank you! That was our biggest gripe with podcasts, they just aren’t relatable and relevant to what we were doing. We’re just two average guys talking about our style of fishing.

I wanted to reach back out to you guys to say thank you for all the support so far! The Short Rod Show has taken off way more than we could’ve guessed. Thanks to everyone who listened in! We’re bumping up against the big boys of fishing podcasts and we have a lot more great things to come. Tight lines IDO!

I have been running the Striker Attack gloves for two seasons now. They are my go to, plenty warm and enough dexterity to hold a rod and fish. I love that they’re waterproof and I can pull a fish out of the hole no problem, just have to deal with the outside of them freezing in extreme temps. The only dislike I have is that they’re really hard to dry out after washing them. The waterproofing really gets in the way of that.

Use the lowest speed, it’s plenty fast for boring holes.

For me the a big advantage is keeping the drill itself off the ice when setting it down. The clam plate handle holds your drill out of the slush and snow. I use the Dewalt 996 on a clam plate with a 7” Lazer auger and love it. Normally I’m running the 9 AH battery and Swiss cheese the lake no problem. Best set up in my opinion.
