Im with Grouse on this one….
Another example of Pitchfork Nation whereby the entire world feels entitled to rush to judgment based on few or no facts.
My thoughts on the situation are that I’ll be waiting for actual facts to be brought forward before having any thoughts on the situation.
The central question here is was Palmer aware of what was being done to lure this animal in and was he aware that this was illegal?
For those of you not familiar with how hunting is conducted (generally speaking) in Africa, it is the job of the Professional Hunter (PH), who is himself a trained and licensed professional, to secure all licenses and permits for all animals taken by the visiting hunter. In many cases the documents and permits that the PH has are written in the local language and are incomprehensible even if you could read them.
Hunting in Africa is nothing like hunting here in the US where you secure your own licenses and are responsible for understanding and abiding by all the regulations.
It is EXTREMELY difficult or impossible for the visiting hunter to look over the PH’s shoulder in Africa and try to verify that what the PH is telling you is correct and that he is in bounds as far as abiding by regulations. It comes down to reputation and trust, when the PH tells you that you can hunt and take a certain animal, in a certain area, and under a given set of conditions, the visiting hunter basically has to trust that this in correct and legal.
I’m not defending anyone or making excuses for what may or may not have happened. I’m just addressing the presumption that seems to be out there that this individual “must have known” what he was doing was illegal. Maybe he did and maybe he didn’t. Facts are needed before anyone can make that judgment.

How bout the media stay out of the police business. There are bad people on both sides of the isle. The people involved and other agencies don’t need the media exploiting an already bad event. Dash cams or not the media is a big part of all the problems the United States has today.
Some day take a look at what an officer has to wear already. Some have room for a cam and other don’t. Yes I know these cams are small but there is a whole lot more too them then just putting them on.
Have a big headed family member like that. Have been making fun of him for years but some how he always gets people to believe him. I always tell people to not believe everything they hear
I try to talk in inches no matter what the species I catch. Way more accurate.
Had about 40 of them at Dresbach yesterday. Some giants too. Today not so much but the flow changed so they just moved like everything else.
Gosh, grease zerts an issue. I would think that would be a plus so you make sure these areas stay lubricated. I have owned Polaris’ since 2005 with very little problems. The only issue has been the batteries and that was because I did have a trickle charger on the batteries over winter. I have pulled a 500 LB disk and plowed a lot of snow over the years. Having a good maintenance program (the same for all machines) helps to not have to worry about my Polaris. Good luck with your choice.
Thanks guys…. I was thinking some were spawn out but was not really sure. White bass was the biggest concern but it appears they just mix together. Will try again tomorrow AM and see what happens. With these temperatures the spawn will be over by the weekend I would assume.
Never shot a drop away but have shot quite a few rests. For me, it is all about the movement. I like to keep things simple on my bow so that is why I will never switch from the Whisker Biscuit. I hunt in the ultra cold and snow of late season and also the rain and heat of early season with no problems.
caught 4/12/14 at Dresbach Dam after all the storms rolled through. 33 inches 15.13 lbs released after taking measurements for a replica. beautiful momma!
There was still about 35 to 40 inches of ice near the float on Sunday and there was not much going on either. Sounds like there are a few boats in the slough in front of the power plant now. With rising water, rain and warm sun that 35 inches of ice will break up fast.
Yep…. Who would of thought of this outcome after not hearing much about JR during the month of February. Good for him.

The story seems a bit one sided. There may have been a good reason to go in expecting the worse. Although it does appear out of line, I’ll hold off ripping them until more details are released.
agreed.
For those of you talking about cost waste of resources maybe but had there been an investigation and court hearings it would have cost a whole lot more and the private attorneys would have benefitted the most.
When you consider the Mississippi is shared by MN and WI in this part of the US you probably should think about how much MN has to offer? There is some great fishing on the MN side of the river. (Even Aaron Martens acknowledged that and the fact he did not fish on the Mississippi because of the culling law and the boundary line. The boundary line is just to hard too follow.) Also some great locations to handle such an event. A lot of MN businesses can benefit from $1,000,000 worth of tourism. One gov’t regulation is preventing the benefits. And now that same regulation will affect surrounding communities in another state. Its amazing how it works.
Yes the law sucks that is why WI rid itself of it for tournaments. But the real issue is the boundary line and how its explained to these guys. It is very easy to get caught up in the moment when you know you are doing so well at something that you are headed for a win. Having lived in La Crosse and fishing the river for nearly 35 years it was not till about 10 years ago that I found out the boundary was not straight down the main channel. Everyone on this forum knows the power of water and how it moves islands. I am wondering when the last time measurements were taken to actually make the boundaries. It would be very interesting to see just how close he was to WI, probably closer then the 100 yards that has been mentioned. At any rate you can bet it will be some time before the Elites come back to fish such a great fishery. But I bet their return to WI will be next year, just to a different city.
You should not wonder why that is happening. WHEN MN AND ITS CITIES START THROWING MONEY TOWARD EVENTS SUCH AS THE ELITE SERIES TOURNAMENT, I AM SURE PEOPLE WILL START SHARING THEIR MONEY WITH YOU.

The tournament and all the publicity says “LaCrosse Wisconsin.” The only connection to Minnesota is the boundary of the river. Where are the anglers staying? Where are all the alleged fans staying? Where is everybody buying their food, gas, drinks? The money is being spent in Wisconsin.
I may not agree with the rule, but it is the rule. Break the rules and that whats happens. Feel sorry for him but you can’t blame Minnesota. And since the state has so many terrible laws and rules regarding fishing maybe everybody should stay away.
Well if the fed is not continuing to print money how is the market flourishing the way it is? How are interest rates staying so low? We don’t have much inflation! REALLY?! You obviously have not went to the grocery store lately! Once the fed stops printing money, and it will happen eventually, the markets will drop like a rock. Right now the only place you can make money is in the market, that is if you have enough to take a risk. We have other countries buying our bonds and assets but everything is okay? We have some of our nations most elite money analysts saying our gov’t (Bernanke) has to start telling the truth about our economy and the problems that are coming when the money stops rolling off the presses. But no one wants to believe it, especially the people who voted for our fearless leader. Right now the US is the only nation with its own currency that can print as much as it wants. Its the number 1 sought after currency. As its value decreases the threat of other countries using the goods and services we import against us is even greater. Right now energy, petroleum, is one of those goods.
Call it gloom and doom if you want. But I will call it the truth which a lot of people will never believe.
straight from the US Energy Information Administration….
How much petroleum does the United States import and from where?
The U.S. imported approximately 10.6 million barrels per day of petroleum in 2012 from about 80 countries. We exported 3.2 MMbd of crude oil and petroleum products, resulting in net imports (imports minus exports) equaling 7.4 MMbd. Net imports accounted for 40% of the petroleum consumed in the United States, the lowest annual average since 1991.
“Petroleum” includes crude oil and refined petroleum products like gasoline, and biofuels like ethanol and biodiesel. In 2012, about 80% of gross petroleum imports were crude oil, and about 57% of all crude oil that was processed in U.S. refineries was imported.
The top five source countries of U.S. petroleum imports in 2012 were Canada, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, and Russia. Their respective rankings vary based on gross petroleum imports or net petroleum imports (gross imports minus exports). Net imports from OPEC countries accounted for 55% of U.S. net imports
It cost a lot of money to buy petroleum to refine from other countries. 57% of all petro refined here is imported. Yes Bush did not do us any favors but 3 congressmen, not to long ago, drafted a bill which would have taken petroleum off the free market and it did not go anywhere. So as long as the gov’t continues to print money (or devalue our money) in an attempt to stimulate our economy a lot of imports including petroleum based products will remain high priced.
As for buying a new truck and boat before you are 30….my guess is you either did a great job at saving your money(something our current gov’t knows nothing about) or you are in debt up to your eyeballs Hopefully you saved for your purchases
As long as we continue to import all our oil and the value of the dollar continues to be diminished by the printing of so much money by the fed we will see high gas. That will be until at least thru 2015 for now. Can’t blame the gas companies as they don’t print the money. If we had a gov’t who really gave a crap about the people who pays for things all this would not be happening. Unfortunately we have a gov’t full of regulative ideas, gas being one of them, so a lot of things will continue to be very high for the coming years.
Hopefully the link below answers your question.

TF Construction out of Nodine, MN did some great work on my home this past summer. Siding and facia sofet on my house and then a couple of the neighbors had them do windows, roofs, and siding on their houses. Everyone was very satisfied. They work cheap and get the work done in a short time frame. Check Angie’s list for too. TF Construction #608-792-1819 Thad Flaherty is the owner.
For those of you who think younger people are doing themselves wrong by going to work and not to college….I think you all need to look and read around. Thousands of dollars in tuition debt does not guarantee good things to come. For many it has guaranteed one thing that being it will be many years before they can afford anything like a house of their own or a new car. Many professions have seen a decrease in pay over the past 5 years which leads to other problems. In ND I see many good things coming but with the good always comes some bad. As far as going against the drilling I think that is outragously stupid when you consider all the good manufacturing jobs that this country has lost over the years. This country is coming up with new ways to make money and liberals are stepping in the way much like prescription drug companies step infront of cures for cancer and diabetes. Its time for all of us to let business do business so our economy can attempt to rebuild itself. Our gov’t continuing to print money is not working and probably contributing to the problem. We are our own worst enemy…ALL THE TIME.
To think there are so many people who will read this and laugh knowing they support democrats.
This is the start of no dogs for hunting coon, rabbits, coyotes, wolves, bear, ect. Watch and see. The Humane Society won big this time. Next it will be traps then guns. The only thing they will not be able to take is archery equipment simply because it dates back to the caveman days. What a JOKE!!!!
What is so interesting about all this BS about tournaments killing fish is the fact that I can not remember the last time I saw a dead bass floating in the river. With all the tournaments being held in LaCrosse and surrounding areas you never see anything other than ruff fish or an occasional bluegill, which probably swallowed a hook. With the number of limits being handled at the scales there should be a lot of bass floating according to the well educated, anti tournament leadership in the WDNR. Shouldn’t there?
We have the WDNR grasping at straws in an attempt at keeping some control over (all) tournaments by drawing up certain rules for different organizations who hold tournaments. There were a lot of bass fishing organizations who got to the governor about culling and the culling law was changed. With LaCrosse publicizing the huge amount of positive publicity from businesses and the fishermen it received from the Elite Series visit don’t think that someone has not already went to the governor about the over regulation coming from the powers at the WDNR. (Many of these rules may or may not have been put on paper before the recall election came about. I am thinking it was before and someone thought Walker was not going to win.) But you can be sure an attempt will be made by the governors office to put those powers in their place before the next attempt can be made at insulting an organization who wants to help bring tourist dollars to the state. You can bet that nearly every state in the union is laughing at the WDNR as once again they have pinned sportsmen against sportsmen just like they did when CWD was found. What kind of leadership is that!!!!?
I think years ago the boats and motors all came separate. The dealers installed them. It will probably be a better job of the dealer does it anyway. The vacation is pretty important. Don’t let Lund stop you from going on it if the dealer is willing to help.
I did not watch the video but I can just imagine the excuses (if any) that are made/talked about.
I don’t agree with the people who think we all are part of this. Looking back there was a year or two when it was said by one president that “everyone should be able to live the American dream of owning their own home.” Interest rates plummeted making the US dollar worth nothing today and many irresponsible people spent money they did not have. The money was obtained by deregulation of the banking system during that presidents terms and has since bounced back and forth from having some regulation to none at all. Irresponsible people sucked every little bit of equity out of their homes, cars and other items they owed on causing huge bills which led to using credit cards with monsterous interest rates. Others finances their new home with little to nothing down and then wanted new cars and were able to borrow 120% of what their house was worth to cover the cost. Mean while there are a few like my wife and I who continue to be responsible and afford what we have on a lower middle class income. We will continue to pay for the irresponsible, people who say there are no jobs that pay as well as welfare, and others who, by choice, can not seem to get off there aXX and get a job. We will continue to watch as rates fall and this vicious cycle repeats itself once again or until someone in the gov’t gets it through their head that we need to get some value back in the dollar again. But the bottom line is the dollar. Without it being worth something neither are we.
I have a Minnkota MK220 on my flat. I use it for my trolling motor batteries and it is flawless. The only reason I bought the Minnkota is because it has a 3 year warranty like the trolling motor on the boat. This is the second year of use with no problems.
I have heard a lot of problems have been had with the Minnkotas but it appears thus far I have a good one. I believe the new ones only have a year warranty.
