I have the original. And it’s great you can open one end the bait cup floats up to take the minnow out. Close it up open the other end and you can drop it in the hole it floats and keeps getting fresh water
Ice angel is the way to go. Drill a hole with your auger about 6-8 Inches deep and put them in the hole and pull up super easy
Did you try the manual setting not auto? That’s what I keep mine on works great
My absolute favorite is the St Croix because its adjustable and you can buy different sensitivities. Thron Bros makes a great one and they will add it to your rod looks factory. Have them both and they are great.

I have the original ION and a spare battery. I’m sure you bring extra gas! I have drilled up to the head and have never had any problems! You couldn’t give me 100 gas auger to replace my ION. It’s great when the gas guys are struggling I bring the ION Over and let them drill. Just replaced the blades for the 1st time drills like a hot knife through butter! I drill a lot of holes! Like to hole hop electric is the way to go!!! 
I tried the plastic dip spray was a big fail!! I’m going to go with some light colored outdoor carpet

I have the original ION with an extra battery really haven’t needed it! Never have sharpened the blades it’s awesome you couldn’t give me a gas auger! I have buried it down to the base! No maintenance gas or oil or smell! Don’t waist your money on any other augers. People that say gas have never had electric!!!!!
If I change the alligator clips on the lithium charger to match the plugin on my Marcum I should be fine correct? My Marcum has the in line fuse
