That’s about the same speed I’ve been cruising, was just curious if anyone has gone any faster. I’ve heard of people taking off after forgetting to stow the motor and not breaking them. Not that you would want to make a habit of that, but I figure there has to be a happy medium.

I always limit myself to 4-5 ish mph . Curious what others have to say here.

Theoretically I would not have an issue with this but I wouldn’t be cruising around the lake on plane with it down.

I disengage mine into the stowing position when I go from one spot to another. It doesn’t take long.

I guess I’m less concerned about the time it takes to walk up an deploy it than I am the fact that it’s easy to lose track of your pod.

Factory alumacraft brackets. Plastic or poly whatever they are.

Ive been trying to get more familiar with the river, it seems it’s harder to figure out than one would think. Do you tip your hair jigs with meat, or just run them bare?

There’s two different styles of beer sold as “Oktoberfest” – a Marzen, which is darker and maltier, and a Festbier, which is lighter with more of hop bite – both good but most people have a preference. Lots of the big German brewers make both styles, so it pays attention to check labels.

Both Schell’s and New Glarus are Marzen style, so while excellent beers, they just might not be your jam. Sierra Nevada has an excellent Festbier in 12pk cans that I’ve been buying a lot, good luck finding something you like.

That’s good info to know! I’m gonna check next time I go shopping. Thanks!

I like Northland Tackle, they make good quality tackle IMO, that being said, they also come out with new tackle every year and market it as the best thing ever. They did it with jigs the last few years. Unfortunately I think a lot of fishing tackle catches more fisherman than it does fish. I still find myself hooking the majority of my fish on a plain rig.

Sorry Fellas, I got sidetracked with moving snow for a few days there. Thanks for all the replies. Answered my original question and gave some more things to think about. I mainly fish a dead Stick from the shack. My thought process was similar to what a lot of people have said is that I probably wouldn’t need the bait feeder since the rod itself should give the fish enough play that they won’t drop it until it’s too late.

Are there any folks from Clam on this site that could chime in on if the Legacy rods were discontinued? I’ve always found marketing of these products interesting. I’m sure there is much more that goes into it than what the end users understand.

I am a big fan of the Legacy rods. I agree on the grips of these Katana rods. Not my favorite. The feel of the actual rod seems pretty nice though. I have a hard time not using my TUCR’s though.

I’m have a few TUCR too. I like their rods but with my budget I like the 2 for the price of one option too.

I think they discontinued them. I assumed that was the reason behind the closeout pricing last year.

I was at scheels the other day and checked out these new katana rods. I’m not a fan of the grip at all. Feels really cheap and rough to me. The Winn grips on the legacy rods were a lot better imo

I agree on the legacy grips. I liked them a lot. Not to say I didn’t like the grips on the Katana….but the jury is definitely still out. I wouldn’t be afraid to try one if I needed another ice rod.

I wonder how they compare to the legacy rods? They always ran $100 but last year I got a couple for $40 a piece. Maybe the katana replaced the legacy.

I have two Legacy rods 32″ ML my favorite rod for eater walleye and big Perch. These Katana rods seemed similar, I almost bought one but self control got the better of me.

I am not sure what the difference is? How could one tell if it’s the heavy duty bracket or not?

Any big differences in the cutting between the kdrill and the strikemaster lite flight. Been using a kdrill the last 2 years and it’s taken the clutch out on my milwaukee m18 fuel hammer drill by the end of the season each year. Thought maybe a fluke the first year but 2 in a row. Looking to change it up or go to an electric auger.

I switched from a k-drill to a 24v Strikemaster this season. I figured the same thing that it was a matter of time before I smoked a drill. The light flite cuts nice but the blades seem to dull quicker. I will say that I got more holes out of my drill setup. The strikemaster claims 50 holes but I haven’t seen that yet.

Sounds good. I figured the same. Maybe they will have them again next year.

If you could find 28’s I would trade for my 32’s. Mine are a little long for my shack

Scheels has the 28″ but they are a medium action. I’d only be looking for one.

I bought 2 of these from scheels about a month ago on sale for a good deal. I see they don’t have the 32” available anymore but still have shorter ones that are even cheaper now

I bought the same rod on the same deal. I should have bought 2.

Nick Linder just did a video about dead sticks and said the baitfeeder reels kinda negate a dead stick rod.

It makes sense. The soft tip is designed to load so the fish doesn’t feel resistance and spit it. With a baitfeeder they take line without feeling it.

Seems to me many of the dead stick rods don’t allow for the most solid hooksets.

Baitfeeder with a more traditional rod should allow for the best of both worlds

This is the one I’m getting, using it for a ice rod case. Pics are so hard to upload.

    Cool story….

I can send pics to anyone who wants them. For whatever reason this site sucks for uploading photos.

So here is my deal: I mainly panfish during the ice season. <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>Panfish bite very light from say January – February. Therefore, I swear by spring-bobbers. The best, I have found, is the St. Croix black series with the light spring-bobber and a 3mm tungsten jig. Money set-up. It detects the most wee, tiny bites. Sometimes, I might even be imagining that the little spring just dipped slightly. Boom, set the hook. Game on.

I haven’t gotten the sickness for custom rods yet, but I feel it tugging me. What stops me from going the custom rod/expensive rod route is the spring-bobber thing. I just can’t imagine the so-called “noodle” rods doing what a properly tuned spring-bobber can do.

    Convince me otherwise.

Noodles are hard to beat in my opinion. Spring bobbers have their place unfortunately for most of them, their place is in a heated shack. I get tired of fighting the freezing. I think if you switched to a noodle you would be impressed. I have seriously out-fished people because of the bite detection of my noodle.

I don’t want to be the guy but I will. I don’t think we can enforce the problem away. Taking fish or game in excess of your limit is unethical. That being said some people don’t care. Just because someone hunts or fishes dosen’t make them a conservationist. There are some in every sport. Look how many people don’t fix their damn pitch marks on the golf greens. Some people just take and don’t care about their actions having a bigger impact on others. I think education helps more than enforcement. People need to decide for themselves that they like catching fish more than eating them.

I know they talk about “gross overlimit” sometimes. I believe fines get stiffer over a certain amount. At what point does a case like this become gross overlimit. Are we talking 50% over or double limit?

Another thing that hasn’t been mentioned that is very surprising. Is that THE BITE IS ON time to get up there.

Go hammer some 13 inch saugs

    🤣🤣🤣

Are you looking at all for a trade? I might still do the $75 but I have a TUCR Precision I am possibly looking to trade.

What would you sell the precision for?

I’m looking REALLY hard at either a legend or superior suit from Eskimo. Will pull the trigger here in a week or so.

I have the Eskimo suit. I use it for ice and for fall and spring in the boat. It’s nice and warm and has been holding up great.

I had a Striker suit and actually didn’t care for the bibs.

I love their gloves and mittens though
