I think the 28 will live on and the 30 is discontinued. But I could be wrong

I picked up a FLX-30 Ultra pack from Scheels they had it on sale for $499 and by applying for a Scheels credit card I received a $100 gift card. Couldn’t pass it up for $399that’s what he got. Are they all the broadband? That is what his is too. Let’s just say he got it for over 150 less than I could.
Yes the FLX-30 and the new FLX-38 are both broad band and are the only two head units that can use the broadband ducer.
Even if I owned a FFS unit, I would not hit the ice without a flasher. I could not see myself moving that FFS setup from hole to hole. To me FFS is a tool to use to located the fish and the flasher is the tool to use to catch the fish.
you hit the nail on the head you are 100% correct! I will say live scope is a huge advantage in catching fish also though. It is nice to have when u found the fish and are set up on them in the shack or house.
check Reed’s prices!!
Fl-18 and FlX-28 still more expensive than the newer “better” FLX-30?
The following sales all come with a lithium battery also:
Fleet Farm – $399 flx30 pro pack
Marine General- $449 flx30 pro pack
Scheels fish fest- $389 flx30 genz box
Scheels – $479 flx30 pro pack
Cabelas- $499 flx30 ultra pack (sold out)

What is different between the two? Never had a Vexilar. I personally have never liked their version of zoom. I want to zoom anywhere in the water column not some predefined range.
The new 38 would be for you then. You can put the auto zoom anywhere you would like in the water column.
I think the 28 will live on and the 30 is discontinued. But I could be wrong
That makes sense to me. Never thought about that. The 38 has the broad band ducer and maybe vexilar only wants one unit available with it so they’re discontinuing the 30 as to not take away from the sales of the newer more expensive 38? There is a demand for a multi cone angle ducer and now that the tri-beam and duel beam are no longer available that would only leave one choice.
They are making room for the flx38. I scored the labor day deal for 249. Gave it to my kid so we both have the 30 now
I would assume that also but why are the FLX-28’s more expensive then?
I for one will always love staring at a vexilar for hours on end for ever. Live imaging is awesome in its own way but there’s something about hunkering down in a shack and staring at that vexilar that I will never give up. Nostalgic.
I agree. I have live scope also and love having it in the shack or house but prefer my vex for hole hopping. Live scope shuttles suck for hopping around in my opinion.
Definitely not cheap….But what is today? I can get over the price if it is made well and holds up.
Their new models look much nicer but pricing went up with everything else. Check out Alex Trimm on YouTube. He has the hybrid skis model this year
Yup I’ve been following him closely. That’s about the only good information you can find on it. Anxiously waiting to see how it does for him this year. I don’t plan on buying this year. Just doing my homework to make sure it will work how I hope it will for me before dropping that amount of coin.
I want to revive this thread. Its been dead for awhile so hopefully people have some time on the ice with their core-ice houses and can give some good feed back.
Anyone own one? Specifically the 6515 hybrid? Im seriously contemplating picking one up. Im about functionality over looks. Don’t care what the thing looks like as long as it functions. This seems to fit my needs perfectly. I want light weight and need to haul with my ATV. Looking for some Ice-core owners honest opinions. Thanks in advance!
What I like most about the 1# refillables is knowing I always have full tanks for a trip on the ice. No more bench full of partial tanks either. I also like not having to take a tank and hose. I use a Otter pro lodge flip over and have never used more than 5# of gas in a day. So with 2 full tanks loaded in the big buddy I only need to fit 3 more in my sled to know Ill be warm all day. For the last 3 years I have had 5 refillable tanks I picked up 4 more this week. Its just so convenient and (after the initial investment) cheap to fill my own and head out on each outing with full tanks. My Father has his own LP fill station at home with a 300 gallon tank but even though he only lives 2-3 miles away I still prefer the 1# tanks I can fill at my house myself at my convenience. Having two 20# tanks works good for me. When I empty one 20# tank filling my 1# tanks at home I have plenty of time to take my empty 20# over to fill up. I don’t miss taking my 5# or 20# tank out on the ice. If I were into ice camping I would definitely take the 20# and hose with. Everyone’s situation is different, you just have to find out what works for you. My first 5 tanks I bought 3 years ago cost $12 each but I know they have paid for themselves. The last 4 I just bought cost $17 but them to will pay for themselves over time. My main purpose though was convenience, saving money is just a plus.
Just picked up 4 more at Menards. Check your local Menards. All the menards in my general area (southern WI) have them in stock. They won’t last long.
people would love to pay that price now! Im glad I bought 5 when I did but now wish I had bought 10. Can’t find these anywhere the last few years. I paid the $14 for the convenience and these things have paid for themselves already. Can’t believe the price of the #1 grenades. Crazy
Decided im going to give St. Germain a try over New Years. Im now trying to decide wether to bring the snowdog or my ATV which is a sportsman 1000 and weighs about 3X the snowdog. From the little information I come across it sounds like the snow has melted and the ice conditions have improved and will continue to do so. Are there any locals that could give some insight and opinions on how conditions are looking? Don’t have any particular lakes picked out yet. I realize every lake will vary just looking for some in general conditions. I prefer to bring my ATV if possible.
Wish they still had the show in Milwaukee! It’s been years, probably never coming back I’m guessing. Always seemed like they had a good turnout not sure why they stopped? It’s a shame my son and I always looked forward to it. To far of a drive for me to go up to MN. If I drive that far im going fishing somewhere!
Can you post a few pictures of the Snowdog stowed on the rear reciever hitch carrier? How close are you to the weight capacity of the carrier? Does the Snowdog get covered in salty slush ice when on the road?
I actually don’t have my cargo carrier yet. It should arrive this week. Here are a picture of another persons snowdog on the same carrier I ordered though. The carrier is rated for 500lbs and my snowdog weighs 342lbs. As far as road salt I plan on buying a cover for it. A lot of people are using grill covers but snowdog does make their own cover also. The carrier I purchased through northern tool and is aluminum.
They might not be for everyone but they definitely have some advantages. My main reason for picking one up was to not have to haul my enclosed trailer around. I bought a receiver hitch cargo carrier to haul it around which leaves the bed of my truck empty for all my gear. The snowdog is also a lot lighter than my Polaris sportsman 1000 so that’s another big advantage for me living in southern WI. I still really like my atv setup but this will work great for quick runs to the lake.
Been using the Clam lithium rechargeable pump for 4-5 seasons now. Works great. It’s quiet and the battery last all day. Will buy another if this one ever takes a s***
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I fish the Chip and Turtle flowage every summer. Both are great fisheries and I had thought about both of them however like mentioned not being able to fish for walleye on the Chip is a big deterrent for me. Im also looking for smaller bodies of water. I will only have a couple days to fish so im hoping to find some smaller more secluded lakes that are accessible by my ATV or im also looking to possibly buy a snowdog. Eagle river,St Germain area seems to be a good option. Also looking at the Rice lake area. So many choices! I think I need to just pick a area and go with it. There’s just not much info out there on the smaller less popular lakes. Thanks again for all the suggestions.
I use the summit shuttle set up for the hard water and Traxtech setup for the boat which is hands down better then having it mounted on my trolling motor.
Both the wife and I bought the adrenaline suits last year. They work great and we are extremely satisfied with them. Previously owned Cabela’s guide wear. Definitely expensive but we have zero negatives with them. Used them all last year. Same great quality as the ice suits.
Thanks for the feedback! I can’t seem to find these in store to try on. Did you find the sizes to run true?
I been pretty disappointed with Fleet Farm in general since the new one opened in Delevan WI I did a online order yesterday for their cyber Monday deal. I wanted a couple things one of which was their Vexilar hoodie they had on sale for $20 in their ad. I could not even find it online to order and nowhere to be found in the store. I know we are in the middle of a pandemic which has disrupted the supply chain for a lot of things but even before the pandemic the Delevan store has never been fully stocked with fishing supplies for open or hard water. Was ecstatic when a Fleet Farm near me opened but have been disappointed ever since it’s opened. The Gander near me closed down and now there is no good option near me. Ordering online is about the only option left which is convenient but when it comes to tackle I like to see it in person.
In my opinion both are to heavy to pull by hand if you have snow on the ice. I bought the lodge because I wanted it to fit in the bed of my box without having to leave the tailgate down. That’s not possible with the resort unless you have a truck with the long box.
I bought one from Sportsman’s guide last year for $271 shipped. Worth every penny. Other than my Vexilar the best ice fishing accessory I have bought. I looked for a good price on a used one for a couple seasons but they are hard to come by. After using it last season I wish I would have just spent the money years ago. You won’t regret getting one.
My last boat was a wheel boat and last year I bought a Competitor 175 LE tiller with a Yamaha 75 on it it. I have absolutely no regrets. I have 3 kids 13 and under and can fish with all four of us if I need to. In my situation all the extra floor space is worth it. I went with the 175 over the 185 because of garage space. I wanted to keep the boat indoors year round. Honestly I dont think its a huge difference between the two. But the difference between a 165 and 175 is huge. The 96″ beam that you get when you step up to the 175 or bigger is huge and makes all the difference in my opinion.
X2 on the ducer rotation. Even in down view, rotating the ducer to find the optimal position will do wonders. Regarding manual adjustment of the ducer head from forward to down view and back, I never touch the ducer for this adjustment. I do it digitally in the “sonar” menu. You can switch back and forth from forward to down view never having to take the ducer out of the water.
It would be nice if that was so but unfortunately that’s not true. You have to manually rotate the transducer. The option in the sonar menu for forward and down view is to do it manually if the system doesn’t detect that you rotated the transducer. Im sure in a year or two however you will be able to switch views digitally from your chartplotter but for now you will have to rotate manually
