My weight loss kind of just happened. With my yearly physical I found out A1c was 6.4. Full blown diabetes is 6.5. Really pissed me off and I was ticked at myself. Last thing I want is diabetes. Doc said losing 10 pounds would go a long way for me. 5 foot 9 205 pounds. 2 months later I weigh 177 pounds.

Without trying to make it sound too simple I just cut calorie intake and the junk that I ate. Went cold turkey on Lays potato chips, ice cream and m and ms. I had never kept track of calories but started to keep track of calories of food I ate. A 61 year old man like me is supposed to be between 2000-2600 calories per day. When I started mid December to try to lose weight I was averaging 1800 calories per day or less. I couldn’t believe how fast I lost weight. First two weeks I lost almost one pound per day. I just ate lean meat-pork and beef loin, fish, shrimp and chicken. Lots of veggies and fruit. No potatoes, rice or noodles. I just eat double veggies.

For my crunch desire I eat Blue Diamond Nut Thin crackers and Nuts-walnuts, almonds, pistashios and cashews. For my chocolate desire I eat 72% or higher dark chocolate with whipped cream.

I don’t drink normal soda- maybe one diet a day and lots of water.

Not trying to over- simplify but maybe try keeping track of calories of foods you eat. Just goggle it to find out calorie count and how many calories a day is appropriate for you. If you eat less calories than you were used to you will lose weight.

I consider this life style change not dieting. I am satisfied and believe I can continue. Now that I lost this much I do drink occasional old-fashioned and eat rib eye and potato. Will eventually bring back some potato chips and ice cream in moderation.

Good luck to you on your weight loss. Put your mind to it- you can do it.

    My humble opinion:

Go for it-life is too short-if you can afford a 100000 dollar boat and your wife agrees more power to you. My wife would show me the door. Ha Ha

A lot of people make a lot of money. More power to them.

A little bit of keeping up with the Jones taking place.

For the last 27 years I have fished out of a 1994 hand-tiller Ranger- paid 18000 new- now powered by a whooping 60 horse Mercury. Absolutely love it. Couldn’t even imagine how many fish came over side of that boat. Sentimental value of that boat through the roof. Could never sell it. I’ll die with that boat. I guess I’m not the best for the economy and boat dealers.

In conclusion if you can afford a 100000 dollar boat good for you. You deserve it.

Here’s my two cents- Retire as soon as possible. I played hard, partied hard, lucked out and met my beautiful wife and raised two boys and am currently in 4th year of retirement. I was lucky enough to retire at 55. Don’t regret it for one second. Best decision I ever made. Haven’t been bored for a second. I could have worked longer and made more money. Why? I know one thing-every year I live after 55 I wouldn’t get healthier. I figure if I am lucky I have about a 20-25 year window to continue to live wide open. I could name example after example of dying too young. Lost a brother to suicide at 58. Just lost a classmate to a heart attack. Teaching friend lost husband at 55. Just learned in last year a dear hunting fishing buddy has ALS. I could go on and on. Retire as soon as you can. TIME is money. I have averaged about 100 days of fishing and 75 days hunting since retirement. I also continue to work part-time about 50-60 days a year. I can’t wait for my wife and buddies to join me in retirement. Life is too short and you never know when the Big Guy comes calling. Happy fishing and hunting. Living the dream.

    Here is my take.
I have been looking at pictures of big Miss.River perch and posts on various websites for 7-8 years. Certainly hasn’t been any secret.
Finally retired so decided time to get my butt up there. First trip caught 30 or so perch first day- kept my legal 25. 13 inches largest many more from 11-12.5 I texted my wife that I died and went to perch heaven. Stayed at trailer in Buffalo co. Next day(Jan.10) Went back to same spot. Caught about 15 same size-basically all big. After several hours left and went to scope out another spot about 8 miles away. Caught another 15 or so big perch. Never fished or had ever seen either spot. Text my wife and said I think I died and went to perch heaven. I go back a week later with my son and his friend. We catch 70 or so perch. Biggest 13.5-Many from 11-13. Wow are you kidding me. Why the hell go to North Dakota. I caught all fish on plastic- I don’t ever ice fish with bait. In summary- go fish and be careful-that river scares me. I have been studying my Garmin maps for a month or so sitting in my easy chair and have many more potential areas picked out. Take care and good fishing.
