a buddy of mine tried some kind of spray that was white cant remember what it was called it turned out pretty good.but after awhile it just kept peeling off and there was white flakes falling everywhere and after he packed his shelter away for the summer and then got it ready for that next year of ice fishing there were holes everywhere. the stuff he sprayed on was eating his fabric.he was pissed to say the least. lesson learned watch what you spray on.his wallet is a bit thinner from the purchase of a new cover. he just wears a headlamp now.LOL

you may want to hold off on the lx7 for open water.this was from another post.. And the reason you think I’d make this up? I don’t have every day of my life off so when I can fish I usually do. Water happens back trolling into waves, sitting in rain, etc. I was a tad upset when I found it filling with water. Sent it in and the hand written note indicated the shield should remain on. Strikes me as an EXTREMELY weak design but it is what it is. I love the LX-7 for hard water fishing but prefer my HDS & Birds any way for open water. It was a fun time trying but draining water out of a $600 unit was less that thrilling. I regret not scanning that hand written note so I could share but then again would it change anything? well this could be a real game changer if marcum wrote you back saying to leave the shield on when exposed to water to eliminate the possible chance of water getting into the unit. that kind of info would really change a persons mind on purchasing a marcum for their boat or even ice fishing if it can’t be subject to H20.

better yet take them on the ice and show them off there where it counts. like the new 4.07 on the lx7 i think you could do a whole show on what the new upgrades look like and why they will make this unit even better.

mine was doing the exact same things.and more. clearly this is not happening on all the units that have the 4.07. that or people are ok with it and not saying much.

what kind of a answer is that. i thought that the six color was one of marcums best features they advertised. the abillity to see the weaker signals in blue (smaller targets).as for the dynamic depth that was also another selling feature. so your telling me to use a different range mode or color mode because the ones you described don’t work right with the new 4.07. are consumers supposed to be ok with that.

i did find this. “quote” It was actually a serious question. Not sure what puts them ahead a of anyone else as they are just a flasher/graph sonar. In the end they are burning a lot of labor and warranty dollars on this unit and that has had to put a big ding in the bottom line. Two years into the product and they are still trying to dial it in. Now,maybe the margins are so high on these that they can afford to float those costs and still be profitable but if you just step back and look at this venture objectively at all the resources they are burning trying to dial it in compared to the same costs for a proven flasher or graph unit. My guess is there are bean counters over there that are questioning the costs.

Yeah, the format is.nee but not more ground breaking than say the structure scan and si/di tech that HB and others have introduced to open water fishing and it doesnt appear to me that they are havine the same post launch problems dialing it in.

And I am in no way bashing the company. I do respect that they are trying to introduce new products and not stagnate. I just hope for them that they have devoted enough resources and are able to get over the hump to make their product profitable over the long term. end quote.

yeah me to. i have been reading other fourms on ice fishing and specifically on this topic.have not read to many on the positive side with the 4.07.i’m sure there are those out there that are not responding.or have not downloaded the 4.07 due to the fact of the issues going on and have nothing truthful to say.that would be my bet.

yeah,my sensitivity on the 4.07 was at 1 on a 16oz jig head in 25fow. and the mark was huge and had some red compared to the 3.17 sensitivity at 13.this was before my unit crashed and burned on the ice.your beginning to hear that now from people.it’s to sensitive.harder to dial everything in.it seems your gonna have to do alot more ajusting to your screen.forget about saving your screen configurations on it.

let me re phrase (since the digital series came out). if you are not having any problems with your 4.07 upgrade great for you. i wish i was one of you. but the fact is i’m not.and thats another thing. why do people seem to think their few glitches they are experiencing are acceptable.

or maybe its just the crappy software being developed thats not 100 percent and safe to download. no one ever questions that. listen i’ve been using fishing electronics mechanical and digital all my life and the lx7 for a couple years. i know what to look for when it comes to troubleshooting.and the fact that there is hundreds of posts on different issues people are having helps.

had my lx7 out on the ice today after the 4.07 update or upgrade. took it completely through everything that was being offered and ARE YOU KIDDING ME things started freezing up and shutting down. my depth was jumping all over, things were flashing, could not do anything with sensitivity, target adjust was worse when turned up, could only get the 8 degree cone to work, then after awhile it just froze.WTF so i powered the unit off then back on …. nothing still froze so i went in to factory settings and pressed that and i was back up. then tried to program all over again and save and it started again and then after 1/2 hour it froze again.so i came home pissed off to say the least. this is my second one i’ve had issues with. and there won’t be a third.i am very displeased with this product and for the time and money spent and all the issues other people are having i would strongly advise against downloads until they do something about these issues.to me it unexecptable.but thats up to you BTW my 3.17 was working great!!!! should have left it alone.wait what am i saying what good is a downloadable firmware or upgrade if it is going to damage your unit.after all that was the major reasons for buying one.would not be so bad if you could go back and reinstall. thats another issue. anyway good luck people.

there has to be a reason he was getting water in his unit. i’ve read about people leaving off that rubber piece that covers the usb port because its to hard to get back on.i can see that causing water to get in there.other than that it’s a sealed unit just like any other fishing electronics you use on your boat or on ice.

and how does an early release get out anyway?it seems that all the testing on the 4.06 is done very openly.and the not yet completed versions are getting into the public hands. you would think that it would be one the most important things not to let happen.its like dropping a piece of meat in a tank full of piranha.anyway this is how it all starts.

i kinda find that hard to believe that marcum would put out fishing electronics that we not waterproof. that is crazy.you must of had a defective unit.

well i’m not blaming anyone.all i am saying is that to avoid any problems in the future you should do upgrades. again if marcum puts out an upgrade its to add or or enhance or to clear up these little bugs people are having.and i would think that most of their efforts to do this relies on input from there prostaff and there customers.and the assumption that people are reading and understanding these procedures.

just want to say something about upgrading to the latest version on these units.i heard of a person not upgrading and when he did decide to update multipul versions his unit crashed and he had to send it in to marcum.this has not been confirmed that this was the problem but not upgrading may give you some troubles down the road if you have to do an upgrade and have to do each one in sequence to get caught up to the latest version.some people just won’t do the upgrade because of the fear something will happen and to it. if it ain’t broke why fix it attitude.it just makes sense to keep up with them.even if your unit is not experinceing any problems.

last heard upgrade was for mid december.that was for lx7 i think or maybe both?. in any case i’m running 3.17 version on my lx7 and it is working great. as for what the upgrade is for not sure, but i’m sure it will improve on any issues or non issues that the new version 3.17 is having.i’ve read alot of reviews and different problems users are having with their units and not everybody are having these issues running the same version.so imo i would think marcum will be addressing these issues and inhancing others.
