Lioness, Landman and Tulsa King are all good Taylor Sheridan shows.
I am looking forward to the next episode of 1923. Spencer is definitely going to roll some heads. I am curious if his wife Alex makes it to America.

I agree with Matt and Gimruis.
The Bears are lacking in talent at key positions as well as leadership.
Throw in there coaching problems and it showed on the scoreboard that the Vikings are a better coached team.

I don’t blame you. They have been going downhill as far as customer service and quality of goods for a while now. Not sure if the BPS purchase was the reason or not.

Ouch that one hurts lol. I’m glad they didn’t go easy on him. But I feel his hunting privlages should be gone for life. Not just for the poach but because how far he tried to take the lie. What a pos

I always thought taking hunting privileges to a poacher was a joke.
All that would do is stop them from legally hunting. They already hunted illegally what’s to stop them from doing it again without being able to buy a license at all.

The lone wolf .5 is the smallest stand they make. The seat post is short and the seat is small. If I remember right you can order it with a bigger seat or the mesh seat.
To me that is the ultimate hang and bang light weight stand for a 2 hour evening hunt.
For all day sits or extended morning hunts in the rut I would want something bigger.

    Forgot the picture.

Oh and one more thing. I try to get to within 800 yards of where I think coyotes are at for that time of day. I have called them in from over a mile out but the closer you are the better the chances they will respond to the call. I had one show up one time at 800 yards out but he would not come any further. Eventually I think he just laid down. I couldn’t see him anymore anyway. I moved up 300 yards and here he come running to the call at less than 2 minutes in.

I get asked that question a lot.
I am not sure why because when it comes to calling them in there are a lot more important questions to ask.
Some popular calibers are .204, .223, 22-250 (which is a very fast round) and .243. Now days you have new rounds like 22 Arc and 22 Creedmore.
I agree with Andy a 22-250 wallops them good. If you can get them to the call a shotgun with #4 buck is the best thing.

Another common question I get asked is what sound are they coming to. I can honestly say there are none that are special. Trigger there reason to answer the call and they will come. Whether it’s hunger, social or competitive. I always like the hard chargers that show up in less than 3 minutes. I don’t think it would matter what sound you play then.

I hunt public land 95% of the time. I don’t do much calling in MN but when I do it’s on private for the most part.
This is my favorite area to call. It has national grassland, private opened up to walk in access and state trust land mixed in with private and tribal lands in the area.
I try to have areas I can make 10 to 15 stands a day with an average on time of stand at 12 minutes.

    I can’t tell the difference.
The fur buyer I used to sell to said west river coyotes had a better coat on them then and an east river coyote. So they were worth more money.

I used to sell them. Now days there is no market for them. It was great when I got $20 a coyote on the carcus.
I usually give them away now days.

I heard Steven Rinella cooked one up one time. Don’t think that went over very well. lol.

The fur buyer I sold to back in the day would pay top dollar for west river coyotes. Don’t know what he would pay for east river but he always said the west river coyotes had a better coat.

Another thing about this time of year is they are prime and not rubbed like they can be in February.
For those that don’t know. That is from sleeping on snow or frozen ground. Their body heat thaws the snow or frozen ground when they bed then refreezes when they are asleep. The fur then rips out or breaks off when they stand up.

Nice, did you do a bunch of research Michael? Seems to be a lot of options and variances especially on price, and I’d like to know how you picked that one. Part of me thinks I should just go TSwoboda’s route, and the other part thinks I’d use an E Bike a lot more. Planning on buying once crying once either way.

I wouldn’t say I did much for research as far as the brand I bought goes.
I did do a lot of research on MTB conversion though.
This bike has a hub motor. I was wanting a crank motor but it is what it is.
I looked at all the expensive bikes and discovered this one on a google search.
Every E bike thread that has popped up on here, Bowsite, Archery Talk and Rokslide I read. Never once did I see a negative comment about this bike. That was enough for me to give the bike a chance. That was probably my biggest research that was done.

The bike has disk brakes which is a big plus. I have heard of guys frowning on bikes with rear Derailleur which this bike has, they worry about the Derailleur in brush.
    It does have 8 gears.

I have been wanting an e-bike for the past few years. Thought about doing a conversion to my mtn bike but chickened out and then sold the mtn bike.

Well I have had my eye on this one for the past 2 years. Decided to click on a bookmark on my work computer last week for the bike. Lo and behold it was on sale. So out comes the ol CC and 3 hours later I got a text from Erik’s in St Cloud saying my bike was ready.

Went and picked it up on Sunday. Had to take it for a quick spin in the parking lot at the shop. With throttle only I was able to get it up to 20 mph.

This is going to help a lot on those 1.5 mile walks in NE or the 2 to 3 mile walks in SD.

That thing is sweet. When I rode one it had way more torque then I expected. Pretty sweet ride you got there. Now what do you do with it when it’s in the tree ? How far from your tree do you leave it.

I am not sure how far to hide it from the tree.
The one stand I have in mind it would be easy. There is a little ditch that drops into a creek bed from an ag field. I can stash it in that ditch. That would put the bike about 100 yards from the stand.

I was actually thinking about asking my dad to fab up a hitch to hook my deer cart to the rack over the back tire. If I can pull that off there would be no dragging required.

    I can’t comment on the V6 version.
I have 2017 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro with a V8.
156,000 miles and I haven’t spent a dime on the truck for repairs.
My plan is to drive it till it falls apart.
I run strait synthetic oil in it and change oil when the service light comes on.
The only negative I have is the suspension is soft in the back end but I have bought a RAS suspension upgrade to stiffen it up.

We are up to 146,174 deer harvested in MN.
Last year there were roughly 10,000 deer harvested during muzzleloader.
It’s looking like we will surpass last years umbers with the remaining seasons that are left.

I couldn’t even get it to stream.
    Tried for almost an hour.
I was watching on X through Swaye but after the 2nd round that got shut down.
What a bummer for Netflix. Hopefully they fix it before the NFL games on Christmas Day.

After watching the fight this morning. The key takeaway is Tyson is 58 and it showed.
What would the hype have been like if Tyson was in his prime. My guess is the fight would have been over quickly.

With MN gun season starting on Nov 9th this year. The rut activity will have impacted doe numbers seen. Lots of does will quit eating in the open food sources because they get sick of being harassed by the little bucks.
Peak breeding is around the 15th every year. So with the amount of does in heat things can get hard for seeing the better bucks then. Which is going to make things even tougher for the second weekend.

I hunt in zones 277 (3 deer unit), 281 (2 deer unit) and 278 (1 deer unit). The weird part is where I hunt in 278 the numbers are very good. Probably some of the best deer numbers I personally see between the 3 units I hunt.

As for CWD goes. I have hunted in the Fort Collins area of CO. Ground zero for CWD. I can say the deer numbers were very good when I hunted there. I think the scare tactic of the disease kills more deer than the disease itself.

After spending a week and a half on the plains in SD it became very apparent deer densities are a lot higher in MN than out there at least in the areas I hunt anyway.

Deer harvest is at 89,625 as of today.

My guess is harvest is going to be lower than last years 158,678 number.

I’m in the tree adjacent to the corner of the neighbor’s property. Been here since first light and haven’t seen/heard as much as a squirrel yet.

Update: action is picking up, her robe just came off. Hopefully get a good shot before the strobes and sirens!

I am set up on the pinch point spot with the decoy out in front of me.
Didn’t see a lot of deer movement this morning. Maybe seen a dozen. Did see 3 really big bucks with one being a 5 point on his left side and the right side was busted off just before the brow tine. I wonder what deer did that to him because he is a big deer.
These deer remind me a lot of Kansas deer. They sure like to fight.

My brother in laws brother shot this buck by Wadena. Not sure if it was yesterday or today.
He said it dressed out at 234 lbs. That deer had to be pushing 300 lbs on the hoof.

Dream big everyone. Good luck to all and weedis I hope you find the deer.

We had rain most of the day today out in SD so I didn’t hunt.
The girl from work that I hung the stand for shot this buck tonight.

    Thanks Bearcat.
Yeah at first I didn’t know what to think. When a person gets used to hunting an area for a long time. A person can have fear of trying something new.
It has been a lot of fun learning how to hunt these deer in this area.
Even if I don’t connect it’s been a blast and a good season already. I still have next week to make it happen.
Come December it will be coyote time for me and I found a new area to add to the list for calling.

Good luck to you and your son as well as the rest of the IDO people.

Wow what a morning I had.
It started off with I spot 2 decent bucks a mile away. As I am making my way over there they get into a short fight. The one is trying to run the other one off but he just keeps circling him.
I close into 400 yards and start rattling. The bucks stop what they are doing and stare my way. Over the hill comes a giant of a 10 pointer. He squares off with the 8 but the fight is over in a second. The 10 walks the 8 off.
I give them 10 minutes and move up to a draw that goes into a decent sized wood lot. I set up and start rattling. after a few minutes here comes the 8 pointer and he stops at 40 yards but no shot. He eventually gives up on not seeing a buck and walks off.

I head back to the truck to make a move and eat a sandwich.
I come across a 30” 3 x 4 muley bedded on the down wind side of a ridge 350 yards from the road. I say down wind but the wind is maybe blowing 3 to 5 mph at most. It’s been breezy every day and the day I find a muley bedded no wind.
I circle around work down the back side of the ridge till I see the little cut that I know he is needed on the other side of. Pop over the ridge and work through the cut. A small 4 x 4 Muley stands up is staring right at me. I draw thinking the big guy is there. He stands up at 50 and I can’t see his body. I take a step to get a better line of site on the body and he bolts. Game over. Just needed 5 more seconds. Or better yet 10 mph more wind.
Btw I seen 3 more coyotes this morning. I think that 18 or 19 for the week.
Sitting by a lone cottonwood just off a creek for the evening. Got the decoy out. It’s amazing how these deer will cover ground to another deer if they see it.

These plains deer are definitely wired different.
The can bed in cover but will bed out on a hill side in a cut wheat field.
Tge more I hunt here the more I think it’s best to sit up high. Glass and then make a move afterwards.
Decoys are good. They see a deer they move to it.
Tonight was majority mulies for action. I did see one big whitetail a mile off in a cut wheat field but had 3 nice mulies and one big guy in the pasture I was hunting.
Seen 6 more coyotes tonight. 5 of them were running together.

Morning was beautiful. 20 degrees, clear skies and lots of frost.
Had this little guy chase a die to me. She had to be getting close. He stayed on her for over a half mile.
Between the two I have had in range I have a complete rack. lol

Been in SD since Sunday afternoon.
    Hunting in the Kadoka area.
First night I scouted and found 3 big bucks chasing does around on private.
Scouted again the next morning and found another good buck bumping does around on private.
Forms a good pinch point and almost got to shoot at a coyote with my bow. Called him in with a hand call but at 80 yards he spotted my buck decoy and decided he didn’t like it.
Hunted another piece of public and had a decent 8 pointer bumping does around. He never got any closer than 400 yards.
Went to my pinch point area and had this little guy come in bumping around 7 does and fawns. He was intrigued by the decoy but was afraid to get his butt kicked again.
These plains deer really put on the miles. I had a big ten with a flyer on his right G2 run right in front of my truck. The first night I was here I seen him 1.5 miles north of where I was tonight.
I should have brought the E call. Wow have I seen coyotes. I am up to 10 in 3 days of hunting.
The pinch point set up is a little bench next to the creek bed and a small ridge
Not much for trees so I have been just sitting on the ground next to a tree.

Well the first half day of a 2 week hunt went down at crazy.

Went into a stand this morning that I found back in September. I had hung the stand maybe 8 years ago. This stand had never been hunted until this morning.

At 9 this morning I had a small spike buck that came in and bedded down 20 yards from me.
About 10 minutes later I see another buck in some thick stuff. I slowly pick up my binoculars and see a wide heavy 8 pointer.
I slowly reach for my grunt tube and give a handful of grunts. The spike never even paid any attention to it. By now I can’t see the other buck.
So I grab my rattling antlers and on the back side of the tree from the spike I give a short 15 second rattling sequence.
The spike doesn’t like this. He starts looking up at me. He gets up and slowly walks off in the direction where the other buck is.
All of a sudden a buck comes trotting out of the area heading right to me.
I grab my bow and when the deer gets in the opening I have he stops and I let the arrow fly.
As soon as the deer whirls and runs dead away from me I realize it’s not the wide 8 pointer. 50 yards later the buck goes down.
As I am packing up I catch movement over where I had seen the wide 8 pointer. He is leaving the area.
When I walked out to get my truck I noticed 6 fresh scrapes and a handful of big rubs.
So it’s off to SD in the morning. The buck I shot is a decent buck and will taste great. But a part of me wishes I could have hunted that wide 8 for the next 2 weeks.

Congrats to those that have been successful and good luck to the everyone still hunting.

Sounds like the hunt itself was alot of fun at least. Crazy you found a stand you hung 8 years ago. And not only that, but the bucks were still utilizing that area heavily. Your buck has double crab claws and no brow tines, that’s kind of neat. In a couple years I bet he would have had a really neat rack.
Just like I told Mason, that buck will eat great. And in the end, that’s what we are looking for. Plenty of life left to chase a bigger one next year.

Thank you. Congrats to your son!
That girl from work will probably have her boyfriend sit with her.
