Man, that is a loaded question. Big lake, tons of structure. If I were to point you in any direction for Walleyes on the big lake, it would be trolling raps along shorelines on the North / North West shore or spinners along any weedbeds (anywhere). Rigging is always a good option on the humps. Head to Cutfoot for Panfish. Crappies were on fire last weekend. If you find the right bait artificial or other, you can catch Walleyes and Crappies. Small jigs with worm chunks work well for panfish. Google Lake Winnie fishing reports there are a number of them updated regularly.

I’ve been pretty happy with Turtlewax ICE. It’s synthetic, requires minimal elbow grease, and it shines molding. No white crap to clean up in cracks.

50/50 water/vinegar for water spots prior to waxing.

The white fish are dying on Winnie also. Mother Nature at work. I’ve seen this before on Winnie, about 8 years ago. The Walleye population continues to thrive.

If it were earlier in the year, I would tell you to leave the artificial bait at home and bring leaeches, split shots, hooks and slip bobbers. The problem with August (as mentioned) will be live bait selection (maybe no leeches) and keeping anything else (crawlers, minnows) alive. If you can get leeches, do so and bring the gear I mentioned for live bait rigging. Smallies, Northerns and Walleyes will tear em’ up.

With that said, you will want some artificial bait and lures. What you wont have room for is a large tackle box. Bring a couple #5 or #7 Rapala Shad Raps, maybe some floating Raps for casting shorelines or rock piles on calm days, a few jig heads and some plastic bodies. Daredevils and Mepps Spinners will always get you some gators.

Have fun, should be an experience wou will never forget!

I’ll be on Winnie and I’m Stoked! Fishing out of High Banks, but I will be all over the lake. Hoping to get into some Crappie action on Friday.

I think “Sheep” is my favorite, but “Several species of small fury animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict” comes in a close second.

Im in the same boat – pun intended? New boat, 40 gallon tank. I talked to a service guy and he recommended filling it up because it reduces the amount of room in the tank where moisture can form. With that said, I have a problem dropping a buck-forty to fill it up and let it set.

google organic mice repellant. I can’t recall the name, but I have successfully used some in the past for the camper. I see one or 2 that come with a money back guarantee.

Can always go the Decon route, guarantee that will get them. Problem is if they die in the cabin. I’m told they need water after they chow, so they head out in search of. Can just put it outside.

Its much like trapping. You want a quick kill and be ethical about it. But different circumstances require different methods. I’ve had to dispatch a lot of coon over the years, and their nervous system tends to create a very undesirable spectacle for an unknowing individual or kids. Discretion is advised – somethings are just best not shown to others.

You cant leave us hanging with just that! Please enlighten those of us that have not had the privledge.

    Al

Yep – 1 block west of Cedar on 98th. Right on the corner.

    Gut –

New to me is a 186 glass Tyee with a 150 verado. Its awesome out of the hole. No clue about prop details, I only mention as to recommend you try it out first without thinking you need to go buy some expensive prop.

Each time I go, I bring less artificial bait. Leeches is the way to go imo. Rig with a hook and split shot or fish under a bobber.

I’ve had decent luck trolling cranks along shore lines.

I’ve seen this on Winne in the past. Was wondering if the same will happen there.

My daughter is a NICU (NeoNatal Intensive Care Unit) RN at a Children’s Hospital and they love boating, her daughter was born in February 5-weeks early. Now, at 4-months she is 13lbs so daughter did research and most documents say a Infant should not be in a Life Jacket or Boating until they can sit up by themselves.
They also advise testing them with your child in a pool to make sure they will right themselves if the Worst Case happens.

Yes, she wants to be on the water and so do I, but nothing is worth chancing when it comes to the life of your Child/in my case Grandchild.

    Good Luck and stay SAFE!

I agree. Nothing good can happen if there is a accident in a boat with a baby. Save everybody the mental anguish and keep the baby on shore. It might be tough on the adults now but noting compared to if something terrible were to happen on the water.

Word – 3 kids and none saw the boat until they were a bit older.

Not an answer to your question but wondering if you have any affiliation with FRB {Freedom Rock Band} out of LZ Iowa. Great tunes and memories.

Negative – I was given that nick name while in the Navy. At the time there was a KTEl (or similar) brand set of albums called “Freedom Rock” comprised of classic rock music. The commercials for the albums included a couple hippies in a VW bus. I guess I fit the bill of the hippies and classic rock is on my blood, thus Freedom Rock.

The place pisses me off to no end. I was there just last night looking for some Northland Lindy sinkers (the old school style with the wire loop on top). They had about 60-1/4 ounce weights, 10-1/2 ounce, but no 3/8 ounce that were plain lead without color. Historically I’ve also had serious heartache with items not being marked with prices.

Unfortunately they are somewhat of a necessary evil being 1 mile from my house, but I set my expectations low every time I go there.

I keep hearing these arguments for braid so i decided to spool some up this year. On opener I used Power pro with a flourocarbon lead while jigging shiners. That rod went back into the locker after 1/2 day. I DID NOT like it. I watched my buddy catch about 5 more fish than I before I went back to old faithful.

Im not ready to give up yet, but thinking next time I will tie the jig directly to PP without mono leader.

My uncle has always used frozen Tulibee for bobber fishing pike in Canada. I’ve used frozen Cisco’s in the BWCA. I typically just let them sit on the bottom and watch the line, but bobber should work just as good.

    2 things:

1 – Put a couple fillets in foil with butter and a couple slices of lemon. Very simple and very good! Most that have never tried are always impressed.

2 – Try Andys seasoning from Fleet Farm. I think its the bomb. Make sure your fillets are wet and dip in seasoning. No bs like milk, egg, etc…just make sure they are wet with water. Dont submerge in oil. Just put enough in the pan to go about half way up the fillets and let them cook until crispy. Andys = good seasoning and crisps up better than other batter I have used.

    2.

These guys have a standing add in the Outdoor News for Marine Plywood. 952.446.9611 I believe they are near Waconia. The wood is spendy! After much debate, I ended up using green treated for mine. Marine Carpet from home depot(online).

Depends on how your boat is constructed but mine was a big job. Im not so sure I would do it again as opposed to paying someone. Granted, I replaced all my wood (bow platform, locker, live well covers, etc…) Hopefully your floor is one piece and nothing on top of it. I had to remove live well, rod locker and console to replace mine. Good luck!
